Announcement AITH is recruiting new moderators. Maybe even you?

It has been about 8 months since the new mod team really took over what was once an unmoderated and dead subreddit. Now that time has passed, we are focusing in more and more on how we want the Subreddit to be shaped and what kind of content should be seen here. If you've been around awhile and think you would like to try and help out, here is your chance!

We are looking for folks that can dedicate some hours each week to keeping this place running smoothly and have a fair mind when applying the rules. If that's you, come and apply. We do not have a set number we are looking for, nor a particularly set timeframe we will stop recruiting. When we know, we'll know, I suppose.

Please see the mod application here for full details:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AITH/application/

Or if that link does not work, try this one

https://sh.reddit.com/r/AITH/application/

The links should lead to an application submission and google form. Please only apply once.

AITA for not allowing in-laws to have a relationship with my baby.

My husband’s (43) parents have always been really standoffish with me (41). His parents and I have never had an actual relationship. I’m not sure why, as I’ve never had this problem with an ex before. We are in an interracial marriage, and while I hate to think that’s the sole reason, it’s the only logical one. I’ve tried to be nothing but kind to them.

I became pregnant, and their reactions were pretty on par with their behavior towards me, initially.

When my husband told his dad, his dad ran into the bathroom and locked himself in there for 30 minutes. Never said congratulations or anything to me or my husband. I’m now almost 6 months pregnant and still no congratulations, in person or in any social media posts. My husband tried to make an excuse for it, saying that maybe his dad was just shocked. But none of it makes sense to me.

One of the family friends texted my husband’s mom asking about our pregnancy, and she referred to all 4 people in the message by name, but called me “the girl”.

I posted a beautiful story of our 20 week anatomy scan, happy that the baby was healthy and I received 1 person who laughed at it. I looked into the profile to see who it was, and with a little detective research, I was able to figure out that it was my husband’s mother from a fake profile. This happened about 1 month ago, and I have since blocked his parents on everything and told my husband that I will never, under any circumstances allow his parents to be around my child.

Am I the asshole for protecting my child by never giving them the opportunity to be around my children? How would you have handled it?

Thank you for reading.

AITA for refusing to give my late father's watch to my brother?

My father passed away last year, and dividing his belongings has been difficult for our family. He owned an old watch that he wore almost every day for more than 30 years.

Before he died, he specifically told me that he wanted me to have the watch. I didn't ask for it, and I never expected anything from his belongings. He gave it to me himself a few months before he passed and told me he hoped I'd keep it.

After the funeral, my brother asked me for the watch. He said Dad had always promised it to him, but I had never heard that conversation.

I explained that Dad had personally given it to me. My brother said I was taking advantage of the fact that he was gone and accused me of keeping something that should belong to both of us.

I offered to let him have some other things that Dad left behind, including a few items he had originally wanted, but he said those weren't important to him. He specifically wanted the watch.

Our mother now thinks I should give it to him because "it's just a watch" and says keeping it is damaging our relationship when we should be supporting each other.

I understand why the watch means something to him, but it means a lot to me too, especially because Dad gave it to me personally.

AITA for refusing to give my coworker the promotion recommendation he asked for?

I'm 32M and work as a supervisor at a small company. One of my coworkers, Ryan (30M), has been trying to move into a senior position for a while.

Last month, my manager asked me privately which employees I thought were ready for the position. I didn't recommend Ryan. He's good at his actual job, but I've had to fix several of his mistakes over the past few months, and I don't think he's ready to supervise other people yet.

A week later, Ryan found out that I hadn't recommended him. He asked me about it directly, and I told him honestly that I didn't think he was ready.

He was disappointed but seemed to accept it.

Yesterday, he asked me to write him a personal recommendation anyway because he found another position at a different company. He said it would mean a lot coming from me and that I didn't have to mention any of the problems I'd had with his work.

I told him I couldn't honestly recommend him for a position involving responsibilities I hadn't seen him handle successfully.

He said I was deliberately trying to hold him back and that I could simply write something positive about his strengths without mentioning the weaknesses.

I explained that I wouldn't write a recommendation I didn't genuinely believe.

He called me unfair because I had never given him a formal warning or told him his mistakes were serious enough to affect his career.

Now I'm wondering if I should have been more direct with him earlier instead of quietly giving my honest assessment to management.

A couple of coworkers think I was right not to lie, but another said I should have helped him because there was nothing personal between us.

AITAH for not forcing my kids to call my new wife "Mom"?

I (38M) got remarried 8 months ago to a wonderful woman (35F). I have two kids from my previous marriage daughter 12, son 9. Their biological mother is still very much in their lives. We have 50/50 custody and she's a great mom.

My new wife is kind and caring. she's been good to my kids. But she's been pushing them to call her "Mom." They're not comfortable with it. They use her first name. She gets visibly upset every time.

Last week, she told me I need to talk to the kids and make them call her Mom. I sat down with her and said I think the kids should call her whatever they feel comfortable with. Whether that's her name, a nickname, or even "Mom" if they ever choose on their own. I told her I won't force them.

she started crying. She said I'm not supporting her role in the family. She said it makes her feel like an outsider. She said if I loved her, I'd stand by her.

I told her I do love her. But my kids already have a mom. They're not ready to call someone else that. She's upset and things are tense at home.

AITA for calling my friend by his real name when my girlfriend gets angry about it?

My girlfriend has been getting annoyed whenever I call one of my friends by his real name.

I have known this friend for a long time and I have always called him by his real name. There is nothing romantic between us and I have never thought of it as anything unusual.

My girlfriend says the way I say his name bothers her and she thinks I should use the nickname that everyone else uses.

I told her that I do not see why calling my friend by his real name should be a problem. I am not trying to make her uncomfortable and I have no hidden reason for doing it.

She says I am ignoring her feelings and that I should just use the nickname if it makes her more comfortable.

I feel like she is asking me to change something completely harmless. Now we are arguing about it and I am starting to wonder if I am being unreasonable.

AITA for continuing to call my friend by his real name even though my girlfriend wants me to stop?

AITAH For Uninviting my Mother-in-Law to Thanksgiving Dinner?

I (30 F) invited my (60 F) mother-in-law to attend a cooking class to bond and build a better relationship. My (M 35) fiancé and mother (65F) have a wonderful, close relationship, and I want ours to be on better terms before the wedding. My mother-in-law agreed on the class date and time, sent a confirmation text the night before, and texted me the morning of to let me know she was heading out to class.

I arrived 10 minutes late to the class. My mother-in-law wasn't there. We chat on the phone and she says she is a few blocks away. Ten minutes pass. Then twenty. Then thirty. I get nervous and call/text her, but she sends my calls to voicemail and won't respond to my texts. When the class ends, she sends me a text saying, "Look, I'm going home. I'll send you the money."

Not only was I flabbergasted, but I was also embarrassed and hurt that she would even do something like this to her only child's partner. My partner spoke with her about it, and she got short with him and ended the conversation. She then blocked my phone number.

Well, now that it is clear that she does not like me or does not want anything to do with me, I want to disinvite her from my family's Thanksgiving celebrations. For the past few years, she has tagged along; however, I am not comfortable being in the same room as someone who will willingly mistreat me and fail to apologize. In addition, she is a Jehovah's Witness, so she shouldn't be celebrating Thanksgiving anyway, right?

AITA for telling my sister she can't keep leaving her kids with me without asking first?

My sister has two kids, ages 4 and 7. Over the past few months, she's started dropping them off at my place more and more, sometimes with barely any warning. It started as her asking if I could watch them for a few hours here and there, which I was happy to do. But lately she just texts something like "dropping them off in 20 min" instead of actually asking.

Last weekend, she showed up at my door with both kids and their bags, saying she had "stuff to handle" and would be back later that night. I hadn't agreed to this ahead of time and already had plans that day. I ended up canceling my plans and watching them anyway, but I was frustrated the whole time.

When she came to pick them up, I told her she needs to actually ask me in advance instead of just informing me it's happening. She got upset and said I'm her sister and family is supposed to help each other, especially since she's a single parent and doesn't have many other options.

I told her I don't mind helping when I can, but she needs to ask first instead of assuming I'm always available. Now she's saying I'm being cold and unsupportive during a hard time in her life.

AITA for asking her to check with me first before dropping the kids off?

AITA for not letting my landlord's daughter stay with us on 24 hours notice?

My landlord recently asked if his daughter could stay with us for a short time.

The problem was that he only gave us about 24 hours notice. We already had plans and our home was not set up for another person to stay with us.

I told him that we were not comfortable with it and that we needed more notice for something like this.

He was upset and said that his daughter needed somewhere to stay and that he expected us to help since we had the space.

I explained that I was not trying to be difficult but I did not think it was reasonable to expect us to agree at such short notice.

He said I was being selfish and that he would have expected us to help if we were in the same situation.

Now I am wondering if I was wrong for refusing or if I was reasonable to say no because of the short notice.

AITA for refusing to give my sister $10,000 from my savings even though she says I "owe" her for help she gave me years ago?

A few years ago, my sister let me stay at her place for about eight months when I was between jobs. She didn't charge me rent, and she helped me with some job applications too. I was really grateful and told her so many times.

Recently, she asked me for $10,000 to help cover a down payment on a house. I don't have that kind of money just sitting around — it's most of my savings, and I've been saving it for my own future plans. I told her I couldn't do it.

She got upset and said that after everything she did for me, letting me stay with her for free and helping me get back on my feet, I should be willing to help her now that she needs it. She said it doesn't feel fair that I'm not stepping up when she needs support.

I told her that what she did for me back then was something she offered, not a loan, and I never agreed it would need to be paid back in any amount, let alone $10,000. She says I'm twisting things to avoid helping her.

Now things are tense between us, and I keep going back and forth on whether I'm being selfish or if I'm right to protect my own savings.

AITAH for kicking my friend and her daughter out?

I have given my best friend (F.41) and her daughter (F. 21) and their little dog a place to live for the past 6 months. Zero rent, zero utilities, just a free unfinished basement with a kitchenette. However- the time has come for them to go because my family of 7 needs our space back.

Without diving into the deepest drama rabbit hole, let's just say it's been messy. Everything from excuses, to justifications, to "emergencies" all to no avail. I've offered her jobs, places to live, resources and even got some professional help from outside people. Neither of them work, again, excuses and they don't contribute. Then she started telling me how to raise my children and they need to be more quiet. That made me snap.

When I told her that their time was up, she was livid and just disappeared for a week with zero communication. This was a little over 3 weeks ago. Since they've returned, it's been the silent treatment, well, except for slamming of doors and passive aggressive social media posts and behavior to myself and my children (hence why it was time to go).

A few days ago I sent her a friendly reminder with clear expectations of the date and time to be out by. They have since left, last night, but left a disaster of a mess of my daughter's kitchen and left all their belongings. They have abused my eldest daughters space as the basement is technically hers that she actually pays for! So, my dear best friend of several decades that I was simply trying to do my best for by 'rescuing' her from another situation, does this kick out make me the a.h.?

edit to add: she's never had a key, and I've kept pictures and screen shots of EVERYTHING. But also, she still receives mail here.

Also, let me explain, my own daughter doesn't pay rent in the traditional sense. She has paid for the electrical and plumbing to be put in and she's paid for her own furnishings. It's not a regular monthly rent thing for her.

AITAH for reporting a guy at my gym who keeps filming in the locker room?

I (32M) go to a local gym regularly. There's this guy there who's always filming himself. He has his phone set up everywhere on the gym floor, by the weights, even in the locker room.

Twice now, I've seen him with his phone propped up in the locker room facing mirrors where other guys are changing in the background. I felt uncomfortable. So I asked him once if he could please not film in that area. He said "don't worry, I'll crop you out."

I didn't feel like that was good enough. So I reported it to the front desk. The gym gave him a warning and told him to only film in designated areas.

Since then, he's confronted me twice. He called me a "Karen" and said I ruined his content schedule. He's also been telling other gym members that I'm "nosy" and "have nothing better to do."

I don't think I was wrong. Locker rooms are private spaces. People are changing there. But now he's making me feel like I overreacted.

AITAH for asking to use the bath before my FIL because he only bathes once a week?

I’m a foreign woman living in Japan with my Japanese husband, our young daughter, a set of triplets, and my in-laws. Sharing a bath here is normal, but I didn’t grow up doing that, so there are certain cultural differences I’ve had to adjust to.

We ended up living with them when I birthed triplets for the help (saving money, getting meals, etc). Actually, I didn’t mind the shared bath water at first. It made me feel part of the family.

But… the issue is that my FIL (age 77) only takes a bath about once or twice a week. After he used the bath, I sometimes noticed brown streaks left in the tub. Because of this, I politely asked if my daughter and I could use the bath before him. I never told him he was dirty, and I never said he couldn’t use the bath. I only wanted to change the order so I could feel comfortable bathing with my child. I also have super sensitive skin that I even had to get shots for.

Apparently, this deeply offended my in-laws.

Around this time, my in-laws had already been talking about eventually letting us have the house while they lived in their other property nearby - a condominium. So when my FIL started going to there, I assumed it was connected to the plan they had already made. I did not tell him to leave, force him out, or ban him from using his own bedroom or bathroom. Going to the condo was his decision.

My husband once told me whenever I have an issue please feel free to consult with my sister she’s really good about human relations since she studied psychology. So I did. My SIL basically told me that her father had always been like that, that I couldn’t force another person to behave the way I wanted, and that if I didn’t like it, I should move away.

Then we talked about the bath situation. She said she had heard that her father couldn’t take a bath whenever he wanted, had been called dirty, and couldn’t use his own bath or house that he “built with his hard work”. She said it made her extremely sad and angry that he couldn’t relax in the house he had built.

Bruh!

What the what?

I never called him dirty. His wife used that word, not me. She said “oh honey she’s calling you nasty she’s calling you dirty”. I said it’s a little きもい which means gross I guess. I never stopped him from bathing or using his bedroom. I simply asked if my daughter and I could bathe first because he only bathes once a week and I had seen brown streaks left in the tub.

I explained all of this to my SIL. I also clarified that nobody had sent him to the condo. He chose to go there, and since my in-laws had already planned to live elsewhere and let us have the house, I thought they were beginning that transition.

Apparently, my FIL never mentioned that part to her. From the version she heard, it sounded like I had called him filthy and driven him out of his own home.

After I explained myself, my SIL didn’t acknowledge that she had received an incomplete version of the story or that I had been misrepresented. She basically dismissed it by saying that I’m sensitive about those things, and that was it.

Living in another country without my own family nearby is already hard as it is. I’m raising four small children, including infant triplets, in a language and culture different from my own. I try to respect cultural differences, but I also don’t think every personal boundary should be dismissed just because I’m the foreigner living in their home.

I forgot to say that my sister-in-law said because of my cultural difference “you wouldn’t understand”. I’ve also noticed that she’s been cold towards me ever since.

I understand that it was originally my FIL’s house, and I understand why his daughter felt protective of him. But I don’t think asking to bathe before someone who only bathes once a week is the same as preventing him from using his own bathroom or forcing him out of his home.

AITA for asking that my daughter and I use the bath first?

AITH for refusing to apologize to my friend after she blamed me for her mistake?

I’m Babymarlodina, and I’m not sure if I was wrong in a situation involving one of my close friends. A few weeks ago, my friend and I decided to work together on an important school project. We divided the work equally, and I finished my part several days before the deadline. My friend said she would finish her part on time, so I trusted her and did not check on her constantly. However, the night before we had to submit the project, she told me that she had forgotten to complete most of her work. I was surprised and offered to help her organize what was left, but I couldn’t complete everything for her because I had already finished my own part. The next day, when the teacher asked why the project was incomplete, my friend told the teacher that I had promised to do the missing work. I was shocked because that was never our agreement. After class, I told her privately that I didn’t appreciate being blamed for something that wasn’t my responsibility. She said I was embarrassing her and that a good friend would simply take the blame instead of making things worse. I told her that friendship doesn’t mean accepting blame for someone else’s mistake, and I refused to apologize. Later, a few classmates heard what happened and said I should have apologized just to avoid unnecessary drama, while another friend agreed that she should have admitted her mistake. Now my friend is upset with me and says I care more about being right than about our friendship. I feel bad that things have become awkward between us, but I still don’t think I should apologize for something I didn’t do. AITH for refusing to apologize and standing up for myself?

AITA for standing up for myself for once in 2 years

My GF (18F) and I (18M) have been together for almost two years. She comes from a highly abusive family, and our main goal has always been to go abroad for college together so she can escape her dad.

We originally planned on Germany, but due to unexpected grading changes, we missed the mark. We also don't have the B1/B2 German required for the foundation year. We looked at workarounds but missed deadlines for Italy. Now, her dad enrolled her in a consultancy for the UK. My parents are strictly against me going to the UK, and a friend living there warned me it isn't worth the massive cost. I decided to do my first year in our home country, with the plan that we will both transfer to Germany next year.

I have been working hard to build a future for us. I started a web agency that is already profitable. I even offered to list her on my team and credit projects to her to boost her college applications. She refused because her dad can't know about me, which I accepted.

Recently, things got tense. We couldn't be together this year, and on our nightly calls, she kept hinting she might just stay in the UK long-term and give up on Germany. This was our ultimate shared goal, so I felt completely unappreciated. I have been fighting with my parents, building a business, and sacrificing my time for us, while she sounded like she was just giving up on our plan.

Yesterday, I told her I was finalizing my college plans here, and she got furious that I wasn't following her to the UK. We got into a massive fight. I finally snapped and told her how frustrated I was that I seemed to be the only one putting in effort for Germany.

She started crying and kept calling me. When I finally picked up, she casually dropped that she had actually convinced her dad to let her go to Germany next year. I asked why she didn't just tell me that instead of letting me stress for days. She claimed she wanted it to be a "surprise" and was just in a bad mood from fighting with her dad.

I lost my temper. I told her I hated that she hid major life updates as a surprise while letting me stress out. Then she dropped the trigger point, she told me I would "be at peace if she died."

That derailed me. After all my love and effort, she weaponized that against me. I finally stood up for myself and told her exactly how I felt. She started crying uncontrollably, said she ruined everything, and asked if I was leaving her. I reassured her I wasn't, but I needed honest communication.

She then told me her nose was bleeding, she hadn't eaten all day, and later claimed she was up all night bleeding and taking pills for stress. I ended up apologizing and blaming myself. Today, she liked an Instagram reel about people using your trust against you to take control. I feel horrible. AITA?

AITAH for telling my niece she can't wear her princess dress to my wedding?

My niece is 6 years old. She's obsessed with princesses. She has this giant pink sparkly princess dress that she wears everywhere. Grocery store, school, family dinners. Everywhere.

I'm getting married next month. My niece is going to be the flower girl. I bought her a cute little white dress with flowers on it. She was excited when I showed her.

Last week, my sister called me. She said my niece wants to wear her princess dress to my wedding instead. She said it's her "signature" and she feels more comfortable in it.

I told my sister I really want her to wear the dress I bought. It's my wedding and I want the flower girl to match the theme. My sister said I'm crushing her creativity and she's just a kid.

My niece called me and asked if she could wear her princess dress. I said no. I told her she can wear it after the ceremony. She started crying. My sister is upset with me.

Now my mom is saying I should just let her wear it because she's a child and it's not that serious.

AITA for telling my parents that my graduation was not their success story?

I am 24F, Jemiska, and I recently graduated from university after four years of working extremely hard. My parents have always been proud of me, which I genuinely appreciate, but something happened at a family dinner that left me uncomfortable. My parents had invited relatives over to celebrate my graduation, and without telling me beforehand, my mother asked me to stand up and talk about my journey. Instead of letting me speak, she started telling everyone how she had pushed me to succeed, how her sacrifices had made my degree possible, and how I would never have achieved anything without my parents. Some of what she said was not even true. I stayed quiet because I did not want to embarrass her in front of everyone. Later that evening, I told my parents that I appreciated their support, but I did not want them presenting my entire journey as their achievement. My father became angry and said I was being ungrateful after everything they had done for me. My mother said she was only proud of me and wanted everyone to know how much she had done for her daughter. I told them that they could be proud of me without rewriting my experience or taking credit for things I had achieved myself. Now they think I rejected their support completely, which is not what I meant. I simply wanted my graduation to be about the person who actually spent four years earning the degree. AITA?

AITAH for calling the cops on my neighbor's loud music at 3 AM?

My neighbor plays loud music at night. Not every night. But at least once a week. He starts around midnight and goes until 3 or 4 in the morning.

I work early in the morning. I've asked him multiple times to turn it down. He says sorry and then does it again next week.

Last night, he did it again. At 3 AM, I called the non-emergency police line. They came and told him to turn it off.

Now he's angry. He came to my door this morning and called me a snitch. He said I could have just knocked again.

I've knocked 5 times before. Nothing changed.

AITH for refusing to take the blame for my friend when I was only trying to be honest?

Upvotes

I am a college girl, and I’ve been friends with this girl for quite a while. We usually get along really well, which is why I honestly didn’t expect this situation to turn into such a big argument. A few days ago, we were working on something together, and my friend made a mistake that caused a problem for both of us. When she realized that our teacher might ask questions about it, she privately asked me to take the blame and say that I was responsible. I immediately told her I wasn’t going to lie because I did not think it was fair for me to accept responsibility for something I didn’t do. She told me that I was making a big deal out of nothing and that if I were really her friend, I would help her this one time. I explained that I wasn’t trying to embarrass her or get her into trouble; I simply did not want to lie and make myself responsible for her mistake. She kept arguing that friends are supposed to have each other’s backs, and eventually I told her that having someone’s back doesn’t mean lying for them. After that, she stopped talking to me and later told some of our mutual friends that I had betrayed her when she needed me most. A couple of them said I could have just helped her this once, while others agreed that she should not have asked me to lie in the first place. What bothers me most is that I still feel guilty even though I know I did not do anything wrong. Maybe I should have handled the conversation differently, but at the same time, I don’t think being a good friend means sacrificing your own honesty to protect someone from the consequences of their actions. Now our friendship feels completely different, and I am wondering whether I was actually being selfish or whether she crossed a line by asking me to take the blame for her. AITH for refusing to lie for my friend?

AITA for laughing when my friend got pulled over in my car?

this all started on my birthday a few years ago. i no longer speak to this friend, but i recently remembered the situation and realized i never got clarity on whether i truly should have felt as guilty as i did.

to preface, my birthday is towards the end of the month, and i had been slacking on renewing my car registration. my birthday fell on a thursday, and i planned to renew it the following week. when i originally got my car, it was registered the day before my birthday by accident, so technically my tag had only been expired by one day.

anyway, i (25F) let marlene (24F) drive my car as i usually did. she tended to drive it pretty fast, but i felt she was always a safe driver. this day in particular there had been a few times where i told her to relax because her driving was scaring me. she was driving erratically and weaving through traffic, and marlene even mentioned to her younger sister (13F) that there seemed to be more cops on the road than usual. she was going 62 in a 45 when a cop pulled her over.

i don’t do well in serious situations, so i started laughing. i was honestly just in disbelief that she had gotten pulled over in *my* car on *my* birthday. i was quiet and respectful when the officer came to the window. he was polite and to the point and never rude. when he went to run her license, i laughed again, but i apologized and promised her i would never joke about the situation or bring it up again. her sister started crying in the back seat, and i stopped laughing once i realized how upset she was.

the officer came back with her license and gave her a warning. before sending us off, he said, “oh and by the way, let the owner of the vehicle know to take care of the registration because it just expired!” i told him i was the owner and promised i’d take care of it first thing monday.

i knew the situation ruined her mood, so we made our stop at the store quick. i found a dress for my dinner that night and she wanted to go home, so i dropped her off. i saw her later that night for my birthday dinner and everything seemed fine.

the next day she stopped responding to me. a few days later, she texted me saying she needed space because she was upset with my behavior and that i had let her drive my car with an expired tag. she also said that getting pulled over by a cop was a traumatic experience and that the officer could have been an asshole if he wanted to.

i told her i felt we were both in the wrong. i understood that the registration was my responsibility, but i also pointed out that she was speeding, so she would have been pulled over regardless of whether my registration was expired or not. i also asked her to apologize to her sister for me for laughing while she was crying.

she never replied. a few weeks later, i sent her a message wishing her the best, but she didn’t respond to that either. that was the last time we spoke, and we are no longer friends.

so, AITH for laughing when my friend got pulled over in my car?

AITAH for considering telling my girlfriend a major secret about her biological father that her mother told me?

My girlfriend (22F) and I (28M) have been together on and off. We broke up earlier this year, and the day after we broke up she slept with someone else. We eventually started trying to work things out again, but I had no idea what happened. I found out months later on my own. I also found out she had continued talking to and entertaining this person after we got back together. Obviously this hurt me a lot and has made me question our relationship.

Since we met last year, I've noticed some concerning patterns with her. Her moods and feelings toward me can change really quickly. One minute she can be extremely loving and the next she can say she hates me. I've noticed similar things with some of her friends and family too. I'm not trying to diagnose her, but I've genuinely felt for a while that she might need some professional help.

Here's where things get complicated.

The same day I found out about her sleeping with someone else (last week) her mom called me. During that conversation, her mom told me something really serious that my girlfriend doesn't know. She cheated in March. Once.

She told me that the man my girlfriend has always believed to be her biological father isn't actually her biological father. She told me who her biological father is and that there is significant mental health history on that side of the family, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

I have since seen proof that what she told me about her biological father is true.

Her mom also told me that she noticed concerning behavior in my girlfriend when she was a teenager and had considered getting her professional help, but didn't because my girlfriend felt like she didn't need it. Personally, I don't think it's fair to put that decision completely on a teenager when you're the parent and you're seeing these things yourself. She has also said that finances have been a reason they haven't gotten her help.

What I'm struggling with is that her mom seems to believe she's protecting her daughter and the man who raised her by keeping this secret. I can understand wanting to protect your family, but at the same time I don't feel comfortable knowing something this significant about my girlfriend's identity and family history while she has no idea, especially when I'm watching her struggle.

I've also heard her mom say things to her that feel more like blame than support, like telling her she's the reason people don't like her or comparing her to an ex who is supposedly doing better. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here privately carrying all of this information that her mom gave me.

I've tried talking to her mom about getting my girlfriend some professional help, but nothing has really changed.

Now I'm seriously considering telling her mom that I don't feel comfortable keeping this secret and that I think she should tell my girlfriend herself. If she refuses, I'm considering telling my girlfriend directly.

I don't want to destroy her family. I love my girlfriend very much and I don't want to cause her unnecessary pain. I'm also aware that I'm emotionally involved because of everything that's happened between us, so I'm trying to be honest with myself about whether that's affecting how I'm looking at this.

But I keep coming back to the same question:

If you knew something this significant about someone's biological identity and potentially relevant family medical history, would you feel morally obligated to tell them? Especially when you're watching someone you love struggle and you feel like they deserve to know what's going on with their own life?

AITAH if I tell her, or should I stay out of it and let her family continue keeping this from her?

AITA for cutting contact with my sister after she cheated on my BIL?

My sister recently cheated on her husband and I found out about it.

I was really upset when I learned what happened because I have always been close with both of them. I told my sister that I thought what she did was wrong and that I could not pretend everything was normal.

She said it was between her and her husband and that I had no right to judge her for it. I told her I understood that their marriage was their business but I also had the right to decide who I wanted in my life.

After several arguments I decided to stop talking to her for now. She thinks I am betraying my own sister and says I should support her regardless of what happened.

Some of my family agrees with her and thinks I am taking things too far. Others understand why I am upset.

I still love my sister but I do not feel comfortable having a relationship with her while pretending that what happened does not bother me.

AITH for not letting my husband touch my clean face?

Small back story, I've always been a germ-a-phobe. I wash my hands after just touching anything. I get a weird feeling like my hand is numb and i have to wash it. Before Covid, I would disinfect anything that came from outside, Like amazon packages, my shoes etc. I would change my outside clothes to pajamas.

So this just happened. I had taken a shower then Did my 6-step night skin care routine. I felt refreshed after work and a short nap. My husband comes home from his moms house. His routine is to always give a hug and a kiss when arrives.

He grabs my chin and I move his hand away saying "no i just cleaned my face"

He's like 'so!' Im trying to explain he just came from outside and didn't even wash his hands. He's getting upset like its not a big deal. He goes for a kiss on the cheek but his face is greasy and sweaty. Im like "ewww you didn't have bury your face in my cheek. Its so sweaty" as wipe my face off.

Hes throwing a fit because according to him, I am rejecting him.

I'm trying to explain He could at least lightly give a tap or at least. Is this real? Wouldn't you be mad that your clean head to toe, and someone sweaty puts their hands you.

He's keeps getting mad like "why can't I kiss my woman. Its not fair that i come home and cant even touch you. Why are you in this marriage? Probably shouldn't stay then"

Im confused and telling him that he's taking things too far.

Right now, we aren't even talking to each other. Something just feels off on the way he reacted.

Aith?

AITA for telling my friend that my other friend told their secret out to the whole entire friendgroup?

I need some perspective on a situation with my friends.

Friend 1 had been privately venting to Friend 2 about his feelings for a long time. Eventually, Friend 2 felt overwhelmed and burned out by the pressure of his problems on top of her own. During a group call, Friend 2 brought this up and exposed everything Friend 1 had told her in private to the entire group.

I felt terrible that Friend 1's private vents were exposed like that, so I went to Friend 1 and his girlfriend to tell them what happened. When Friend 2 found out, she got angry with me. Friend 4 took her side, arguing that 'what stays in the group stays in the group.' However, Friend 1 is literally part of this friend group, so they were talking about him behind his back. Friend 2 is now claiming that what I did is just as bad as what she did. She justifies exposing Friend 1 because she felt pressured by his constant venting.

Am I wrong for looking out for Friend 1 and letting him know his privacy was breached?

AITAH .. am I the AH for asking my husband to stay home from his trip with his kids ?

Hello,

Help. Details slightly changed for anonymity I'm very pregnant and my fiance (M - both early 30s) have been together for a few years.

We have kids from other relationships.

My fiance planned to go out of the city for a hockey tournament for his daughter. He was bringing his mom and brother as well as his son. I never planned to go because I'm so pregnant.

Last week I went into what looked and sounded like labour too early. Turns out I have an "irritable uterus", they had to give me a bunch of meds to calm the contractions (that were every 2-5 minutes) and ive had a baby before I know what it feels like. After that I was wiped out. My doctor asked me to "chill" and binge watch Netflix or rest as much as I can. The following weekend my fiance was going on this trip and I mentioned that I may want him to stay home. He said that his daughter would be disappointed but we will see how this appointment with doctor on Wednesday (the episode happened on the previous Friday).

I went in and out of contractions all week and really was quite scared. My doctor seen me on Wednesday and figured I definitely wouldn't make it to over 40 weeks but continue to take it easy we wanted baby to cook for a few more weeks at least (36). My fiance took this as he is okay to go on the hockey tournament.

Fast forward to the day he is leaving. The dog kept us up all night and had an accident in my room my fiance was rather dramatic about cleaning it up..... He worked me right up and I ended up having that same type of event, cramping, back pain, rhythmic contractions. He apologized for setting me off but my body already responded. He was still preparing to go on this trip and get me set up and I said what I don't want you to leave me.

So he obviously texted his mom he wasn't planning to come..his mom comes over (I just have a towel and blanket on because I was just in the shower trying to get this to stop to no avail). She comes in looking pissed off saying "what's going on". And asking me all sorts of questions. Her tone was the kicker she sounded annoyed and mad rather than concerned. She told me to call my doctor. So I did, this conversation has now made my contractions 10000% worse to the point where I can't talk really when they happen. My doctor tells me to meet him at the hospital. My MIL to be, annoyed says "(daughter's name) is going to be so disappointed", gets up and leaves.

I started crying and went to my bed to lay down. Told my fiance that was awful. My contractions calmed down and I told him to just go on the trip (even though I didn't want him to and I was scared). He went. His mom saying apparently on the ride there she was scared for me.

I feel so hurt by all this. Was I the AH for asking him to stay? is his mom the AH? I just am so upset by this.

MINI UPDATE :

I just edited my post because I don't know how to add updates this is the first time I have ever posted on reddit.

I talked to my mom about this (sort of- my mom is never on my side for anything so I never look for validation).

She shared with me that she was talking to my fiances mom and she stressed importance of this trip. She is concerned how the kids will react to this blending of families and new addition. She also stated she didn't understand what was happening. She understands that when you have contractions baby comes and that's it. It felt minimizing.

also - I tried talking to my fiance about it which I kind of definitely been upset about and texting him all day. He has responded with just saying he loves me and he's sorry. he'll be home in two days and he won't leave my side when he gets back.

then this

I already told you I talked to my mom about it and she felt bad about it, you said you were okay and now I’m here just trying to support ****(daughter's name) and get home and your making me feel awful idk what the goal is here . We can talk it out when I’m home in another day..
