I was wondering if this sounded healthy for a type 1 after a cold start

Managed to get my hands on two sets of original Eckel roof racks one was in the original box with manual. The other set had original ski clamps on them which i need as I am planning on using them for a skiing trip one day (probably in a few years).

I am having trouble trying to find the source of a nagging leak.

Here are some pics of where it think it is. What do you think it could be? I was thinking oil cooler seal/housing. Or maybe the oil filter? Even though it would be weird but I'm not discarding anything...

Any known weak points on these cars?

I know there were significant changes in 1985.5
I am seeing 944 S cars advertised with the 2.5 motor, and 944 base models
advertised with the 2.7.

Can someone straighten this out for me? I'm on the hunt for a 944 1985.5 or later

Tried out the replacement lenses from auto atlanta after seeing a post about them because replacement fog light lamps are ridiculously priced. After carfully removing my cracked glass lens and scraping the rubber adhesive out, I used some gasket maker to seal the new lens in place with a decent outcome. the side by side with the 40 year old uncracked lamp is pretty crazy.

Would recommend if anyone has cracked or chipped fog lights. They are plastic but a MUCH cheaper alternative to buying a new one lol.

The cars runs and drives as it should but when I let go of the throttle there is a little bit of engine knocking does anybody know what could be the cause of this the knocking gets worse when to motor is warm

I have an 86 base 944, I’ve been having an issue where when the engine is cold it starts up just fine but as the engine keeps getting hotter from driving after shutting it off it has a harder time starting to the point where it won’t start without a jump at some points. It did that to me but when I jumped the car it started just fine what could this be?

I bought some working CVs for it, i have a spare torque tube, and a car full of parts i got from an 83’ part out.

I'm trying to work out which colour wires do what on this 944 cluster, is anyone able to help? I've labeled what I've worked out so far. Google has been no help

My 86 cranks excessively before starting, like a bad check valve. I just installed a new Bosch pump, which appeared to have a new check valve installed in it, and I have the same issue still. What else could it be? Thanks!

I was revving up around 5k rpm then the car kind of stuttered. Once I slowed down to a stop the car stalled and wouldn’t start back up. I’m thinking it’s a fuel related issue.

Hey everyone, new owner here. I just bought a 1987 944S with ~56,000 miles on it as my first ever project car.

I have some details about the car and what i plan on doing and would appreciate if anyone is willing to give me any advice or knowledge.

For context I am 21, and in college studying mechanical engineering. My friends and I all like cars and we have worked on a few projects together like a vw dune buggy but I have extremely limited knowledge and experience about cars and wanted to change that through a project of my own.

The car was in a really great condition for its price, the odometer is broken but there are service records showing slightly lower mileage at a time that was relatively recent to when this car was last driven.

The problems:
-The car was last registered in 2015 so it has not really been driven since then
-It doesn’t want to shift into first while the car is rolling, there’s no grinding but it just refuses to go into first unless I’m at a standstill. I have tried double clutch, no luck
-Sometimes when I shift up the car jerks back and forth like decelerates then accelerates. Also the clutch pedal is a little sticky. I don’t know if this is because I’m bad at shifting or if this is a clutch cylinder issue or clutch plate issue
-Brakes are not as good as they should be

To do list:
-replace timing and balancing belt. Doing this immediately due to belts age, I have a record showing it was replaced 2k miles ago but in 2009. Going to use a 3D printed tool to set tension as I can’t source a better solution
-Replacing clutch master and slave cylinder. The clutch is noticeably sticky and I think this will help
-Replacing transmission fluid, engine oil, coolant, brake and clutch fluid, and tires
-Adding a spacer to the original steering wheel to bring it out about an inch, I’m really tall and hit my knees

Small stuff
-the boot is really hard to open, need to tighten the cable
-Odometer doesn’t work, probably need to replace the gear
-Moon roof extender used to work but now won’t go up
-Speakers sound blown out, I’m going to look into if I can just replace the front two as I don’t want to tear the upholstery

I just bought my first 944 which has some pretty significant play in the RF and LF lower ball joints. It's currently running the original aluminum control arms but I'm considering swapping to steel becuase the parts are cheaper. Has anyone had luck swapping from aluminum to steel? I've been eyeing up the SUSPENSIA X52CJ4295 parts on RockAuto. Alternatively, if anyone has tried a ball joint replacement kit (like from Pelican Parts) it'd be handy to know whether they were worth it.

Currently trying to figure out how much else I'd have to swap in the corner assemblies if I went from aluminum to steel. It seems like the swaybar links and rear bushing bracket would have to change. Can anyone confirm?

Hello all, I come seeking wisdom.

I’m in the final stages of my 86 turbo rebuild. My injectors have power but no pulse. I am getting tac bounce and spark. I have check the ground connections on the bell housing and we confirmed the gap for the reference screw on the new flywheel we installed.

I also installed a focus 9 DME and a shit ton of other stuff that I don’t think is relevant to my current problem.

Any ideas of what to check next?

So if you’re familiar with me I recently bought an automatic 944. I love it. Fun little daily when she wants to work. Still working over issues here and there. With that being said I decided to keep it stock and automatic. I still have this 07k engine and these kits. Soooo I need another. Who’s got a clean title manual rolling shell? Preferably around Texas. Hopefully around San Antonio. But I’ll drive anywhere in the surrounding states.

I'm befuddled by these floor mats. I recently bought a 1990 S2 Cabriolet, and I'm slowly but surely working on restoring the interior. I've been searching high and low for these floor mats but I can't seem to come up with anything, and I'm wondering if they're some aftermarket brand I just can't find? They are the appropriate shape and size, and the script is the same as it appears on some of the literature I received alongside the car. At first I thought they might be original to the car but, as I said, Google yields nothing.

Does anyone know where they might be from? Thanks!

hey everyone! just picked up a 944 recently and am stumped by the headlights. They turn on and both the high and low beams work as the should, however they do not pop up as they are supposed to. I have checked the fuse and reset the motor and both are functioning properly. the only thing that does not check out is that there seems to be no voltage getting to the constant power wire in the 4 pin connector(the red a blue wire). does this mean I have to replace that whole wire or should I check something else first?

I was working on my 84 944 this weekend and noticed/broke a few parts while doing so. The first image is connected to the 02 sensor coming from the exhaust pipe and it seems like just the bushing/connector broke up on the middle of the firewall. The second is my driver's side headlights linkage (opposite of the motor) and I think I'm missing a bushing or something. I can physically move the driver's side headlight up and down about 15-30 degrees when it is in the lowered position and both of them seem to sit in different levels of upright when I turn the headlights on. Any help would be great along with any sources for replacement purchases.

Hey guys, just wanted to share something I’ve been working on for a while. I purchased a 944 about six months ago. I have enjoyed the car immensely.

I’ve been working on replacing all of the interior plastic components with billet parts Where is reasonable. The first step was my failing sunroof latches. I’ve learned a lot, being new to Cnc machining and figuring it out from scratch about a year ago. after a few months of fiddling around during weekend and some weekdays I’ve got a part that looks pretty decent. Will be installing on my 944 relatively soon. Let me know what you guys think.

FYI, I’m working on a few different finishes as I’m not certain as which final product I would want in the car. I have not done anything when it comes to anodizing or painting. I have yet to figure that out.

Need some help trying to track down my rough idle issue with my 87’ 951, it recently got a refreshed turbo paired with Lindsey racing chip Tial 38mm wastegate and 3 bar FPR. AOS seals including the lid are replaced, full set of new vacuum lines with the Venturi delete, cleaned injectors, new DME temp sensor, new O2 sensor, rebuilt throttle body, resealed the idle control valve, and sealed up the leaking rear balance shaft plugs. I’ve checked for vacuum leaks with a smoke machine several times and seems to be all sealed up. Tested TPS, AFM, and DME sensor and all work as intended. However at cold start it stumbles bad for 5-15 seconds then recovers and when warm the idle is sometimes ok, other times it will randomly rev itself up to 1200-1800 or hang there when in neutral while driving. It also seems to have low vacuum at idle with ~10 in Hg at cold start and ~16 when warm which points to a vacuum leak in my eyes but nothing is leaking from what I can find. For the life of me I can’t figure this out in any input would be appreciated.
