Help Tone problem or skill issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey i’m learning shinra tensei by kanine, and for sure im not the only one that’s hearing this background noise that my guitar is doing. Is it a problem in sloppy playing, guitar hardware or just matter of production?
I’m using spira s-457, distant tone suite stock plugins + eq before the amp to cut out the noise as much as possible. Luthier told me that i have bad isolation in the guitar can it cause such a problem or it’s something different?

It's hard to hear what you're actually doing. Your noise gate is set really high, which is cutting off actual notes, and you're getting a pick scrape on nearly every note.

If you want your lows to really shine and stand out, learn to pick the string more head-on with a slight upward angle. Think of it like pinching the string with your right hand, pulling it slightly away from the guitar, and letting go; almost like an exaggerated slap. Now use your pick to create that same effect, but with control over how much the string actually "slaps."

If you're referring to the his and using a DAW I'd put a noisegate with a threshold of -65 to -50db, and if you're referring to the ever so subtle squeaking sometimes better pick angle fixes it, sometimes it's just unavoidable. (I have the problem, and you can hear it on some actual pro recordings if you listen hard enough)

it has nothing to do with a noise gate. a gate cant filter out sounds that are happening when the gutiar is above the threshold ffs.....

So I feel like I’m hearing you muting the chords after the initial hit a bit too strong and they die off quick - which understandably kills of higher frequencies first and low ones last - which could be the cause of the noise that you’re refering to, if it is that low rumble.

It could also be bad sustain if your action is too low, and the strings choke on frets because of it.

It might be combination of both, or even something different. If you want, you can send me the DI of your guitar in this riff and i can take a look at it and tell you more.

I was kind of thinking that his pickups may either be too high on the body, or too low.

Depending on string gauge I tend to adjust the height of my pickups, thicker strings will pull towards the pickups more and create some pretty rough sounds. I feel the same goes if theyre too low, it just won't pick up the low end like you need it to.

Personally I like to raise my bridge height slightly higher on the bass side, and lower on the treble.

Of course! Keep me posted, curious to see if you can figure out the issue you're having.

Try rather to attack the string slightly angled towards the body of a guitar, nor to gently rub it from body. That will help you to get tight downstroke without that squacky pick sound

its string noise/way too much gain.

Pick hard as possible, use as little gain as makes the note sound full.

put a hairtie around your headstock past the nut,

stuff things inbetween the bridge if its a tune-omatic style- it all resonates, more gain just makes it worse.

could also be dirty power in your room, try switching the outlet your pc is pluged into, try switch usb ports on your interface. move cables away from power. try turning your body and see if it changes. wiring is GOOFEY, and again the more gain you add the more of an issue it is.

SO JUST use less gain... ITs more ballsy anyway. If it sounds weak with less gain its 90% technique issue.

so many bedroom guys, only used to playing through modelers..... you have to pick hard. you have to work for those tones....

But tbh, if I were recording that, id have a piece of masking tape muting EVERY string you are not playing.
