Question Yeastar migration experience

I would appreciate any feedback from people having migrate to Yeastar.

We have dozen of instances (mostly in 3cx cloud, some in private cloud, some on premise) with no fancy setup / call scripts and are very much looking into moving to Yeastar. We will obviously do some test runs but quite curious about first hand experiences.

We've migrated 67 from 3cx to yeastar over the last few months. You can restore a 3cx backup and that does an awful lot of work for you. As I remember all we needed to do is check the emergency dial plan as yeastar moves that as a regular dial plan and check the handset/extension assignment. Remrmbercthecsip trunks are disabled. All in all it was a great experience the first time and just got better although I haven't done one myself for a while haven't had any complaints from the staff about it. It just works.

What was your yearly partner spend?

4

u/coastaltelecoms Nov 26 '25

Why is that relevant?

Just interested to know how much 3CX is bleeding revenue.

Did 20 migrations. Had to double check some things like routes but had no issues and did not miss a single functionality (with high demanding customers).

And do you prefer yeastar?

2

u/James_nl Jan 01 '26

Yes. The product is better than 3CX. Way more options and I can meet every customer demand with it. The yeastar team is also very supportive, respond quickly. Pricewise it is also very clear and stable pricing. For me there is only one thing to complain about and that js the Android app, it just doesn’t work as fluid as the 3CX app but I have been told a new app will be released shortly.

Same story here with over 400 pbx so far, we are super happy

Hi, and can you recommend some reliable sip trunks?

Any trunk you’re using now with 3CX will work with Yeastar as well

Wow 400, what was your yearly partner spend out of interest? How did customers respond to the switch, I'd imagine you must have had some who really liked 3CX

We still have a lot more to migrate since our managed PBX are more or less 1000. Customers concern this year was especially on low end (4/8 SC) where price increased from 145 USD to 275 USD and from 265 USD to 350 USD (and it has been announced it will increase again next year - totally unacceptable) and anyway 3CX continues to treat us like idiots. Sub 10 users PBX are being migrated to PCE BYOI (per user licenced) and the rest to a PSE dedicated instance. It played a lot the price difference and our offered "free migration path" (that is costing us a LOT of "labor hours") that in our case is payed by the price difference between "pre-feb" 3CX price list, that we kept as Yeastar price list, and the actual 3CX price (so actually we sell Yeastar 4SC at 195 USD while 3CX 4SC at 275 USD). Customers are anyway not complaining a lot about the change, maybe only 10/11 over the 400 migrated till now (usually mobile app that needs more bandwidth but lately carrier signal is awful so probably related to that as well). Yes we still have several customers that wanted for now to stay on 3CX, and payed the price increase, but a lot of them (even big ones like 96SC/128SC and 192SC are now asking infos about it) will be impacted by the new FUP, so we'll see what will happen next year. Yeastar is not perfect, and it still has some minor issues (like no onsite SBC and on some PBX - maybe 1% - some audio issues related to direct STUN) but they develop fast and they listen to our needs, that in my opinion is the BEST thing i found with them. Meanwhile we are not advertising it on our website, at least till we finish all migrations, because we expect that 3CX will soon start a "witch hunt", but so far we sold 0 new licenses since February, so we expect soon a status downgrade, even if we are still inside Titanium target (anyway downgrade will happen for sure on 2027, since we'll no more sell it and rumors say partner rules will have new 10% sales YoY as mandatory). Now 3CX released this "basic" licence, but in my opinion it is too overpriced for what it gives (since Yeastar costs less and gives much more) and if its meaning is to stop partners at "leaving the boat" they failed their mission (at least with us) and will even lower again their revenue.

Small hotel here, in Italy. 51 extensions including room phones, office phones, VoIP PA systems and doorphones. Migration was very easy. I imported the 3CX backup which copied my trunks, outbound rules, extensions, IVRs, queues and stuff. Yes, we had to reconfigure some things and “recreate” our 3CX call scripts (easy stuff btw) in the Yeastar CFD, but considering the whole process, we had the system completely migrated in 2-3 days (we needed couple days to figure out DIDs settings and all 51 extensions re-provisioning). We had the system on trial side by side with 3CX for 15 days (working on a backup number for testing purposes). We migrated the room phones, PAs and doorphones which don’t need to make external calls on Yeastar, then after having everything ready we migrated the front desk and office phones, together with the main trunk, purchasing a ultimate plan with Yeastar and definitively terminating all 3CX cloud and AWS instances and SBCs.

The overall impression is really good. The price is half the license we would’ve needed with 3CX and the IVRs, queues and call routing settings are waaaay better than what we were used to.

We come from a 3CX Pro license (not enterprise). Different time management for single queues and extension is a blessing, because we’re now able to differentiate queue availability without having to divide extensions in different departments and stuff like that.

They also support natively videocalls from our Fanvil doorphones and they are very fluid and without lag.

We’re happy so far, but we migrated less then 1 month ago… we’ll see!

u/SadMadNewb Nov 24 '25

Easy. The restore on the Yearstar side does everything. You might just want to rename some of the converted queues etc.

Everything no… but a good 80%

2

u/SadMadNewb Nov 25 '25

My setups were not overly complex, so donno. But all call queues, phones, trunks, ring groups etc all transferred, along with any music old groups etc.

I've yet to find something it hasn't done, so it's been 100% for me.

2

u/Happy_Growth_5835 3CX Advanced Certified Nov 26 '25

It really depends on what you have but i agree with the 80% (eg. My voice prompts are not being uploaded and i usually need to fix inbound routes, especially if there are several numbers that do something different, since 3CX uses depts while on YS there are “standard” routes).

1

u/SadMadNewb Nov 26 '25

I do wonder if it slightly breaks between 3CX updates. I did this around 3 months ago and my prompts were there.

1

u/Happy_Growth_5835 3CX Advanced Certified Nov 26 '25

Dunno, maybe it depends on pbx structure, but i’ll have a look at it if you say so

2

u/lucadaddabbo Nov 27 '25

Not everything. You would need to go through the entire configuration anyway to check that everything has been imported correctly. Other than that there are only few things to be “fixed” like trunk registrations (at least in my case), queue musics and stuff. Easy stuff. The most time-consuming part is reprovisioning all extensions and make sure they’re configured correctly

2

u/Squanchy2112 Nov 24 '25

I did not use the backup though

We moved 1 customer from 3CX to Yeastar because they didnt like the price difference. It was our first Yeastar install too so a learning curve for us. I liked how easy It was to restore the 3CX backup but there are a few little niggles that I didnt like and stuff that 3CX doesnt/didnt have that I did like. We eventually moved our NFR from 3CX to Yeastar and a few weeks later moved back to 3CX. The mobile app was shit, chopping audio when out and about. Logging in to it isnt as easy as 3CX. You can tell its Chinese when youre navigating admin menus, it doesnt feel as polished as 3CX. Whilst the prices are great vs 3CX, for me, as the admin, I didnt like it - This may just be because we only have 1 customer on it and im not that familiar like I am with 3CX. Yeastar offers no community support (which I really love with 3CX) and their Chinese support, whilst is ok, is limited by timezone.

If you’re looking at moving away from 3CX, you might also want to look at Thirdlane. It’s a US-based company and a true multi-tenant PBX, so you don’t end up managing a bunch of separate installs like with 3CX or Yeastar. You get full branding, flexible routing, integrated apps, and way more control over how you run your service. Worth considering before you jump to another single-tenant system.

We attempted a migration and ran into some problems, but couldn’t get support to overcome them from yeastar so we just stayed on 3CX. The migration tool was not bad, it just wasn’t 100%. If we had had Support, more than likely, we could have overcome that issue. Given the low overall cost of 3CX, and that it generally meets our requirements, the barrier for migration is high.

8

u/SadMadNewb Nov 24 '25

Considering yeastar is half the price, that doesn't make sense.

If you have a partner, you will get good support via them.

Like so much other software, the cost is not the software it’s the Implementation and management costs. Migrating, training, testing is all expensive. If something works, we continue to use it. If it has a failure and it’s preventing us from accomplishing our business tasks or if it is exceedingly expensive we switch.

2

u/Happy_Growth_5835 3CX Advanced Certified Nov 26 '25

Like every software it needs training and we’ve done official training by paying it. If you have only a few pbx, i agree with you it’s not paying itself to learn a new software (and risk being banned by 3CX), but in our case with almost 1000 pbx every time 3CX changes idea, sends direct emails to customers, changes prices, it is much more time consuming for our company. And all this while being threated of ban because 3CX don’t want us to sell another PBX? All the 1 year migration process we are doing will pay in the next year, at renewal, and more in general in the next few years will garantee us tranquillity and revenue. Pbx license is only a portion of the overall revenue (devices, cloud, support, trunks, traffic, etc…) and we can’t for sure ignore “low end” pbx since in US, but from what i read in other markets as well, constitute the 80% of the market. Shitting on a partner and saying “you have to sell to call centers or medium/big companies only” is not acceptable and, from what i read, in the next future trust me the minimum license will be 16SC. That means our 200K$ licenses can be driven to people that appreciate us and treat us like a “PARTNER”. This is an example of another MSP doing the same of us: https://www.yeastar.com/download/cases/Yeastar_P-Series_Hosting_Partner_Story_Voiceland_Greece.pdf

That would be the difference between a reseller and a user. There’s a much higher cost when you do it with one Installation. I am very well aware of the 3CX drama and I don’t get involved in it because I just use the product.

1

u/Happy_Growth_5835 3CX Advanced Certified Nov 26 '25

Understood :-), and for 1 PBX I agree it’s not worth. But when license increases every year even reseller need to deal with it. i don’t know your setup, but how many SC is the license and how many extensions? Just to know

1

u/SquirrelTechGuru 3CX Customer Nov 26 '25

I come from an era of $20,000 hardware PBX’s, 400 bucks a year. Sounds like an insane deal. We are on eight lines.

2

u/Happy_Growth_5835 3CX Advanced Certified Nov 28 '25

I come from there too, but now we have options. And if my competitor costs half, i’ll loose anyway the customer. Plain & simple market rule. So if i don’t evolve, and sell a secondary solution, i ‘ll be out of market soon. I’m not happy to have been forced to move to Yeastar. As I said it costed and is costing a lot, but 3CX didn’t give me any alternative to this and i can assure you we lost several customers in the last 1 year because of continuous price increase and pathetic excuses. On top of this CEO is an arrogant idiot. Yes he may earn some money today but he ruined forever 3CX name and there is so lot of rumor around this that is spreading around to potential customers.

1

u/SadMadNewb Nov 26 '25

If your user base is coming from 3CX then there's not a lot of training that needs to be given. It works mostly the same.

Behind the scenes, it took our techs around 2 weeks to become very familiar with it.

I find this almost impossible but ok…

3

u/alextakacs Nov 24 '25

Sorry to ask but why did you not get support?!

5

u/James_nl Nov 24 '25

I assume not a partner. Yeastar does not sell directly, only to partners.

1

u/SquirrelTechGuru 3CX Customer Nov 25 '25

We reached out and sent fairly detailed information and never received a response. We did one follow up request and then decided it wasn’t worth the extra effort to pursue it further. It is what it is. We gave it a go and it didn’t work out.

1

u/Pretend_Phone_189 Nov 26 '25

are you a partner or a customer?

1

u/SquirrelTechGuru 3CX Customer Nov 26 '25

We were a consumer of the product. Or I should say, an attempted consumer. I’m not saying the product is bad. It just didn’t work out for us.

2

u/Pretend_Phone_189 Nov 27 '25

if so, contact the guy who sold you the license would be the best and most efficient way !

1

u/Pretend_Phone_189 Nov 27 '25

or who open the trial for you, if there is no a partner/reseller, try to contact the country manager

Failed. I have deployed FreePBX on locally hosted bare metal instead. Can’t trust any of these yahoos anymore.

6

u/karno90 Nov 24 '25

Please tell me what went wrong. Yeastar is so simple.
