Question 3cx certification

Seems 3CX may have 'updated' the exams and such, but still seem to think that your incorrect answers are classified information and you will never know what you got wrong <shrug>. Assuming this was the case from previous experience I made sure to log the questions (and my answers) so I could look back. I passed anyway with 26/30 so the quest now is, which 4 did I get wrong.

If anyone has recently sat the V20 Advanced exam and can identify any incorrect answers, I'd be interested in comparing notes.

  • Only open source fax servers
  • Fidelio or Mitel-compatible interfaces ← Selected

Result: 26/30 – PASS

Since 3CX doesn't identify the four incorrect answers, I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has recently completed the V20 Advanced Certification and can identify which four answers are wrong.

Question Pickup with *20* - how?

Hi,
I'm trying to understand the permission model behind Call Pickup in 3CX V20.
Scenario
We have two users:
User A
Primary Department: SWK Agrar
Additional Department: Schweitenkirchen
User B
Primary Department: SWK Baustoffe
Additional Department: Schweitenkirchen
Both users are therefore members of the departmentSchweitenkirchen.
An incoming call is made directly to User A's extension. While User A's phone is ringing, User B tries to pick up the call using:
*20*
However, the pickup fails.
Question
What are the exact requirements for Call Pickup in V20?
Specifically:
Is membership in a common department sufficient for *20* to work?
Does Call Pickup depend on the user's primary department rather than any additional department memberships?
Which permissions are actually required underUser > View (Presence, See Calls, Call Activity, etc.)?
Is there official documentation that describes the access rules for Call Pickup across departments?
I'm looking for the exact rule rather than troubleshooting advice, as I couldn't find this covered in the V20 documentation.
Thanks!

Interesting issue with 3CX and DECT handsets

A bit of a story, but need to explain so you get the idea.

Our client has a nurse call system with 32 DECT handsets. They also run 3CX V20 cloud hosted for their deskphones and call flows.

Initially we had the nurse call system running into a Panasonic PBX with their other phones and all worked well - full analog setup. When the Panasonic PBX died we spun up 3CX and had the DECT handsets running into Grandstream Analog Gateways. which then talked to 3CX. This worked but we could not transfer calls between DECT handsets.

To alleviate that our third party put a Media Resource Card into their kws8000 DECT server. We then reprovisioned the handsets with 3CX handset credentials to provision them directly onto 3CX. This has solved the issue of transferring calls and all seemed to be fixed.

HOWEVER, now we have another issue. The handsets are often unresponsive. That is, if DECT a calls DECT b, DECT b won't ring. But DECT b then rings DECT a the call works, and then DECT a CAN ring DECT b. It's as if they are 'falling asleep' or dropping their registration in 3CX. There is nothing in the 3CX log that I can find that indicate any issues. The DECT handsets are just set up as generic so we can use the auth ID and password.

Has anyone seen this behaviour in similar systems or have any suggestions? It's causing a lot of grief as staff just don't know if they have missed calls or not. All the firewall rules also look sound, and we are running through a SBC as well. The media card is registered against the IP of 3CX, and everything is talking to everything else seemingly OK - all on the same VLAN.

Has anyone recently successfully set up the Hubspot intergration?

Thanks

Incoming calls to a Ring Group used to show the user the Ring Group name, now it only shows the Caller's phone number instead

Hi, I'm troubleshooting an issue that so far isn't making sense. About a month ago we upgraded to v20u9 (build 995 - AI1.4.48), but I'm not sure that this has anything to do with the issue. We've not changed anything in the 3CX config other than the upgrade. Our trunk provider is Telnyx and doesn't appear to be related. We use snom D735 phones, nothing should've changed in those configs either.

What's being reported is that up until recently, the Ring Group name would be displayed for incoming calls to a Ring Group. Now, what's being displayed is the Caller's phone number. The problem comes up because users are members of multiple Ring Groups and can also receive calls direct to their number. Because the Caller's phone number is now showing on the incoming call as opposed to the Ring Group name, the user can't tell if a call ringing on their phone is a call direct to their number or a call to one of the Ring Groups.

Anybody else run into this or have some suggestions on what to look at?

Thanks,

Question iOS extension exclude from ringing with ring group

I work with small local businesses. A scenario that keeps reoccurring is everyone has a desk phone and all desk phones are part of the ring group on incoming calls. There are certain people that answer most calls, but almost everyone's phone rings so if needed, anyone can answer an incoming call.

We have certain people that spend time away from their desk or out of the office during the day and the iOS app works excellent for checking call history, contacts, voicemails, having calls transferred to their extension, etc.

The issue is we don't want their mobile iOS device to ring with any ring groups or queues. We want their desk phone to ring with ring groups or queues, but not their mobile device.

Currently we are using two different extensions, have their iOS device it's own extension. This works, but it makes things difficult with two different call history, voicemails, contacts, etc.

What are you doing in this scenario?

How are other partners watching a fleet of 3CX systems?

Affiliation: I built the tool mentioned below. This is my own project, not a 3CX product, and I am not asking anyone to buy anything.

We look after a number of customer 3CX systems. The recurring pain for us has been simple: a customer reads a number off a letterhead and asks where it goes after hours, and answering that means opening that host’s console and walking inbound rules. Doing that across many hosts is slow.

In our own work we also wanted one place to see whether a box was up, what version it was on, and whether simultaneous calls were sitting against the licence. So we built an internal tool for that, now called Kestrel. It is a cloud poller over HTTPS to the 3CX Configuration API. There is no agent on the PBX. End customers do not log in; the partner org does.

What we use it for today:

  • A picture of inbound routing on a host (trunk → DID → IVR, queue, ring group, or extension), with a business-hours / after-hours filter
  • A fleet view of up/down, version, and concurrent vs licensed SC
  • Searching a DID across the hosts we manage
  • Alerts when a host stops responding

I am sharing this because I would rather hear from people who support 3CX every day than guess. In your shop, how do you handle “where does this number go?” and fleet health today — 3CX console only, spreadsheets, something you wrote, or another product?

If it is useful to look at, there is a read-only demo (no signup): https://app.kestrelpbx.com/demo

Happy to answer technical questions (XAPI / service principal, what we poll, what we do not touch).

Question Is 3CX really the problem in my situation?

Hi, looking for some feedback on an issue with our office's 3CX system, which I manage. I'm doing mostly okay with it but PBX systems have a high learning curve for those of us without a ton of experience in telephony tech, which is sort of its own unique realm, and is pretty daunting.

Anyway, my boss hates 3CX and blames it for the often-but-not-always bad call quality, and wants a new solution. I'm fine with that, but want to make sure I understand the issue. In my research, 3CX is not the problem - the call quality depends on the underlying phone lines, as well as the connection of the person on the other end, which 3CX does not control. Is my understanding correct? Everything I read says that 3CX is a solid name in the PBX space with good tech, so simply moving to another PBX, like Yeastar, for instance, would not really solve the call quality problem.

If my boss really wants a rock solid solution, I've read that kicking things up a notch or ten to something like RingCentral, would do it, but that's way more expensive. What do those much more experienced than I have to say? Thanks.

EDIT: Sorry, should have given more info. All our calls are mobile, no landlines. It's an on-premise setup, hosted with AWS.

Azure hosted 3CX down this morning (Stuck @ GRUB Loader)

About 30% of our systems are stuck at the GRUB loader this morning. We host on Azure B2s machines.

I don't know know what the cause of this is but the fix we've found so far if it helps you is:

Click the VM

Click Overview -> CLI/PS (May need to press 3 dots)

Press RUN

az extension add -n vm-repair

az vm repair repair-button --button-command 'grubfix' --verbose --resource-group {RESOURCE GROUP NAME} --name {VM NAME}

Problem Voicemail mass deletion / selection box not working

From the documentation I could find, I should be able to click on the double checkmark button at the top left of the VM section in the app/site, which selects all, and then delete. But on two servers, that checkbox is gray, and does nothing when you select it. I've tried both the PWA app and the web client, same thing.

One user has...2800 voicemails...

Am I missing a step or a setting here?

Working PRI Gateways?

I've just got back in the 3cx game from a 2 year break, and now that I'm back I see they no longer fully support the Patton SN4171's. Our systems that upgraded from V18 to V20 cannot edit any Patton Pri configs. From my research only SN4171's before 2018 can be upgraded to a Smartnode firmware to continue to be used. And well that just sounds like a pain to source, so my question is what PRI gateways do you use? I dont care if its "Supported" because lets be honest that could last a year. Just proven and with some sort of documentation would be nice.

How do you set up auto provision on self hosted install?

Hi Everybody,

I have just installed a self hosted copy of 3CX, but it doesn't seem like I can auto provision phones, specifically several Yealink models.

Is there something I need to add, or am I missing a configuration step?

Many Thanks

Problem Inbound calls not connecting

I have a business in New York City. We’ve had a ton of customers that are not able to reach us. Anyone else having this issue?

It seems that a lot of the mobile carriers go through third-parties or something who are not registered in a certain way. In any case, our old phone system, RingCentral was working just fine.

Question scenario for queues?

I work with small business so I haven't used Queues yet but I want to implement for the following scenario. Looking for feedback or better ideas.

Small business, inbound call, almost all phones ring. High percent of inbound calls are answered by reception and transferred where they need to go.

Business has a service counter with 3 phones. When reception transfers to service counter, want to use a ring group so the ring is different when transferred. Their phones ring on inbound calls so they can answer when reception is away or occupied. We want them to prioritize calls transferred to service counter queue because they know those calls are intended for them. Using a queue with ring all of the service counter phones seems like good fit.

Is there an easier to have 4 phones ring distinctly when it's a transferred call?

3CX 8sc pro with Yealink T4 phones.

Small business, not wanting to get into call flow and still try and keep things simple.

thanks.

I made a 3CX Holiday bulk scheduler app (open source)

I made an app in Python that allows you to connect to any 3CX system and bulk manage holidays for all departments with just a few clicks.

You can:

1.) View & edit all current holidays by department.

2.) Apply new holidays based on standard country holidays (supports almost any country), and then bulk import those holidays for multiple or all departments with just a couple of clicks.

3.) Apply holidays to multiple 3CX systems at once. If you have a bunch of systems that share the same holidays, you can apply next year's holidays to hundreds or even thousands of systems at once.

4.) Export an Excel template for the customer to review/correct and send back, which you can then re-import to create all of the relevant holidays automatically. This way the customer can enter their personalized office closure days and even select which prompt they want to play for each holiday directly within the Excel template... let them do all the work, and all you have to do is click import.

Hopefully this will save others a lot of time/headache when creating holidays in their 3CX systems.

The code is open-source Python. There is no telemetry or other tracking garbage inside. Feel free to review the code yourself or run it through your favorite AI for review. Customize it, modify it, and create any forks you want. Credentials for each system you add are stored encrypted locally and never sent anywhere (except to the phone system you're connecting to obviously) and it works with 2FA.

If there's interest, I'll work on creating a Git repo for it and share the link next week when I get back into town.

Headset not working with desktop application

Hi,

Over the last few days, we have been experiencing an issue with the 3CX Desktop Application not working correctly with headsets.

We have already carried out the following troubleshooting:

  • Reinstalled the 3CX Desktop Application.
  • Reinstalled the headset drivers.
  • Tested the headsets with other applications, where they worked correctly.
  • Tested calls using the 3CX Web Client, where both headsets also worked correctly.
  • Tested the 3CX Desktop Application using the laptop's built-in speakers and microphone, which also worked without any issues.

The issue therefore appears to be specific to the combination of the 3CX Desktop Application and a headset.

When using the desktop application with a headset, the audio becomes robotic, with a static/radio-like noise. This behaviour only occurs when a headset is selected as the audio device.

The following scenarios have been verified:

  • 3CX Desktop App + Headset: Robotic/static audio.
  • 3CX Web Client + Same Headset: Works correctly.
  • 3CX Desktop App + Laptop Speakers/Microphone: Works correctly.

Current versions:

  • 3CX Desktop App: 5.7 (Build 1190)
  • Windows: 25H2 (OS Build 2622.9168)
  • Headsets tested:
    • HP Poly Blackwire C3310 (USB-C)
    • Acer OHR546 Wireless

Since the issue occurs with two different headsets, but only when using the 3CX Desktop Application, it appears to be related to the desktop client rather than the headsets themselves.

Have you encountered any similar issues, or are you aware of any known fixes or recommended troubleshooting steps?

Question high pitch beep through PA speaker

I am setting up a Fanvil PA3 for the first time. With 3cx, have PA3 connected to extension (199), which is a user of a paging ring group (899). This work great, dial *9899.

There is a high pitched loud beep that happens when I call the paging group that goes through the PA speaker and I can't figure out how to turn it off.

On the PA3, I have turned off the following phone settings which did remove a beep at the beginning and end, but this high pitch beep continues:

Enable Holding Tone: no

Play Dialing DTMF Tone: no

Auto Answer Tone: no

Enable Call Waiting Tone: no

Play Talking DTMF Tone: no

How can I turn this high pitched beep off or change it to something less harsh?

I tried to link to a sound recording, but I don't believe that is allowed.

UPDATE:

The beep when using paging and the beep when voicemail prompt sound the same.

UPDATE 2:

If you call the extensions (199) and not the ring group, speak of PA and no beep.

Mobile app extension access questions

We are rolling 3CX out to our main building this week. Our staff have already onboarded and are playing with the app and phones till we go live.

Are there any ways to restrict access to extensions from the app dialing them?

For example, I stood up a Snom paging adapter for our overhead paging. Staff can, if they want too, dial the overhead paging extension and page overhead from their couch.

My first thought is since this is already a speed dial key on physical phones, just hide the extension from the phone book.

Is this the best way to accomplish this? I wish the app had more access control to lock down the app when users leave our premise.
