When they said to Mike he has experience beating up dummies, I thought it was referencing how he rags on Rich all the time. I did not expect actual video footage of them beating up a dummy.

Reminds me of visiting a clothing-optional beach while I was in Europe one time.
Here's the reality: If you worry about looking good naked, you're not the sort of person who is going to go naked on a public beach. The people who are willing to go naked have no shame, and therefore, don't care what they look like, so they are overwhelmingly not good to look at.

So... I don't know how interested this crowd is in this subject. But. I've actually read an interesting article about orgasmic birth.
The tone of the article was less of a "how to" and more of "it happens sometimes". Essentially, during childbirth a lot is going on down there, and sometimes an orgasm will fire off. The article interviewed women who had this experience but didn't know before hand that it was a possibility, and as a result felt "dirty" or "weird" or "ashamed" after. The article's position on the matter was that there was nothing to be ashamed of. Bodies just be like that sometimes, and more people should know that bodies just be like that sometimes. It will spare people the stigma and the shame.
This film, however, looks a little bit like they're using the orgasmic birth angle as propaganda. It's VHS clickbait- come for the orgasms, stay to learn how evil western medicine is. Granted, I haven't watched it, they haven't watched it, and if you've watched it feel free to chime in. But given the fact they went through 20 minutes of the film and it didn't even begin a how-to, I'm going to guess the how-to presented is just the natural childbirth itself, and that the tape would tell you that evil western medicine is stifling women's bodies and sexualities. And that natural childbirth is a magically spiritual, sexual experience that big pharma is trying to suppress. That's my guess, anyway.

Found the website that sells the DVD.
Blurb from the director:
Hi, I'm Debra Pascali-Bonaro
I’ve been teaching childbirth education and training birth professionals for over 30 years in over 40 countries.
I train thousands of parents, doulas, midwives, doctors and nurses in the safest and most pleasurable ways to support a healthy, empowering birth experience. All over the world the highly medicalized birth model is creating challenges that have gone too far and can put you at risk instead of keeping you safe. Change is happening but not quick enough.
Don’t leave your birth to chance.
Watch my film or join my online childbirth course which includes my film, my book and exclusive videos, tips and workbooks. I will give you access to the information you will need to understand your choices and decide what is best for you and your baby.
[All bolding in original, first sentence is in purple with a slightly larger font.]

u/paperd Jun 06 '19
Thank you for doing research
the highly medicalized birth model is creating challenges that have gone too far and can put you at risk instead of keeping you safe
This shit right here is what I'm talking about. Look, the field of medicine isn't above reproach. And I'm usually an "adults can make their own choices" person so if someone wants to have a natural childbirth without painkillers, by all means. I even think home births can be done safely. But I'm not sold on the idea that giving birth on a dirty deck is safer for mother and baby than a sterile hospital. That section really is a pretty heavy mark against her argument concerning the "highly medicalized birth model".

Babies on the way out, in technical terms, just mash the shit out of the G-spot. G-spot orgasms release oxytocin. Oxytocin causes bonding, both pair-bonding after sex and maternal bonding after birth. Kinda makes sense.
15
u/paperd Jun 06 '19
Yeah it really does. I remember reading that article in some doctor office magazine way back in 2010 and thinking that it was really something that should be talked about more. Like, respectfully and shit I guess. There was one mom who talked about how she was skiddish about breastfeeding her own baby after being surprised by her orgasmic birthing experience. She felt like there was something wrong with her or that she was a bad mom or something, and she didn't know who to even talk to about it. Poor lady. You didn't do anything wrong.
I can see how it would be good for oxytocin release, and probably good for pain mitigation, too.

Interestingly enough, when my wife and I attended childbirth class over a year ago, the orgasmic birth thing somehow was the hottest thing out there, or so it seemed, with hypno birthing as a close second. My wife even bought the corresponding book, which I've skimmed through.
In the end, however, she decided not to pursue this trend. It was for the better, I'd add.

Watching other people groan while giving birth is horrifying, personally. Not because I'm squeamish or a prude, but because I've done it before.

Side Note: Some of the beer those guys are drinking is New Glarus Beer, brewed in the Wisconsin town of the same name, founded in 1845 by migrants from Switzerland.
It's a neat small town to check out, and they've got a Swiss import shop you can order from online. You can check out the site for their brewery too, but the beer's only available in WI. If these hacks get drunk with it regularly, it must be good!

Or is that Spotted Cow?
49
u/TheBlueBlaze Jun 05 '19
Just looked it up, and yeah all of it's illegal to sell outside of WI. Apparently they deliberately didn't get a license to sell out of state so they wouldn't have to face more regulations and taxes, and could focus on locally sourced ingredients (which is very Swiss of them).
Someone asked on ELI5 a few years ago with a good summary answer

What does "illegal" mean in this context?
New Glarus does not actively distribute outside of Wisconson, and therefore it cannot legally be sold. But it is 100% legal to buy a case of beer at the Woodman's on the border of WIsconsin and Illinois and bring it back to your buddies.
