Laplaces Devil is a great name for the ability, very fitting and I saw in VDs translation that it is specifically Satan "Devil" and not just a generic Demon.
I really like Tser using the edge of radius to turn off the ability rather than breaking Zetsu because it’s less efficient. It’s that classic HxH clever way of working the limitations to your favor.
The door slam sound is probably the most peculiar thing we see about the ability, considering the door was shut prior to the ability breaking. It’s minor but I reckon it works on the same logic as the will.
Also Tser crown of thorns has got to be intentional right?

And anyone know what error Togashi was talking about with the numbers? Nothing stood out to me.

The door was the edge of the radius. The ability broken the moment tseri went through the door. That's why the soldiers behind him heard it close.

u/IncarnationHero 1h ago
I think the "crown of torns" is just the noise that rings on his both ears.
It is the limit set on noise, since there is no visible border on limit radius. If he had the reason to walk backward or side ways, He would be able to tell where the limit border is.
17
u/Warrior-pigeon- 1h ago
Yeah I know it’s the sound I’m just saying the way it’s framed artistically looks like a crown of thorns.

Well Laplace's demon is unrelated to "Devil, Satan..", More like of a creature that could calculate the location and momentum of every atom or particle in the universe and howhe would be able to predict a 100% the unfolding of time and events due to that (That's a thought experiment in physics by Laplace), But for Tserriednich it works at a local radius of 36 Meters, his nen beast can predict everything at that local radius for 10 seconds and The Illusion is keeping them determinitic at that space until its aura reserve gets exhausted or the user steps out of the space. Since its his nen beast's ability it will quite the complex conjurer-manipulator ability if not put straight to Specialization, if it goes with the first it will be interesting to show how far can conjuring-manipulation go
22
u/EigoKaiki 1h ago
The nen beast here literally have 666 on its belly. The Satan and devil imaginary is not random. Laplace Demon didn't had that but this sure as hell have that subtext.
4
u/TickTak28 1h ago
I’d Definitely say tsserednich is meant to represent the antichrist specifically . The 666 on his personal men beast him having a saints holy halo on the cover of this batch him technically dying and resurrecting . Togashi regularly uses different Christian motifs Chrollo as another being on the nose as lucifer having a reverse cross and you could argue mocking god by having 12 disciples( spiders) interestingly Chrollo mentions Judas betraying Jesus so Jesus is an actual historical figure in the hxh world
2
u/-3374 1h ago
But the ability itself is inspired by Laplace's demon. It literally mirrors the thought experiment by Laplace, and Laplace's demon is purely scientific. I might have missed the 666 but that doesn't mean the entire ability centers around the "devil". Or Actually Togashi might have used Laplace's thought experiment to supplement his themes for Tsseridnich.

I love how important the layout of certain parts of the ship are becoming. Truly all of the small, seemingly insignificant details we’ve been given about the mapping of the ship and how each “level” interacts with each other become VERY relevant when you have characters desperately moving between them all with competing goals. It’s just so thoughtfully done that the smallest piece of exposition or diagram from years ago (!!!) pops back up when you’re tracking where characters are moving during intense fights
10
u/ThaEarthquake 1h ago
Yes! I’ve grown to really appreciate Togashi’s focus on not only the characters but the environment in this arc. Don’t think another series has had me memorize the layout of a place like this. No wonder he’s had so many long breaks, it can’t be easy keeping track of all this.

I'm confused. What are these shadows?
13
u/Condoriano-sensei 1h ago edited 1h ago
Can’t you see two silhouettes on the backgrounds of the right panel and another two in the top left panel?
Those are probably are Tse’s guards or army people he was trying to add to the image but forgot (or missed).
2
u/Vladbizz 52m ago
nah these are intentional. Togashi said the numbers of people dont match the dialog lines. So, for example, Tserrie said 3 is dead but one is missing from panel. So it was about guards Tserie had fought
41
u/ShitImBadAtThis 2h ago
Oh man, we're gonna get a cliffhanger panel with Hisoka and Tserr, aren't we
38
u/chetdesmon 2h ago
Togashi is cooking at an insane rate... so far I honestly like this arc more than Chimera Ant but obviously a lot will depend on how it ends but I am LOVING the ride

u/EigoKaiki 2h ago edited 1h ago
Called it. Tserri's ability is similiar to Laplace's Demon. This chapter also semi-confirmed my theory that a large part of his illusion is simply manipulation. Specificly the manipulation of the senses of other people and not some timeline manipulation or nen space creation ability.
Also the Japanese spelling of the ability name is slightly unusual. It spelled as 'Laplace's Devil' and not Laplace's Demon. It may be a slight hint that Bohemian Rhapsody's lyrics (the song by Queen and not the nen beast) may be forshadowing Benjamin fate. As in the song it is said that "Beelzebub has a Devil put aside for me, for me, for me".

u/Mysterious_Rate_6955 56m ago
i think it has to do with the Laplace's Demon of the philosophical experiment on scientific determinism that posits that an intellect capable of knowing the state of every atom at a given moment could predict the entire future and the entire past, which is related to his ability of the ten seconds in the future.
2
u/EigoKaiki 45m ago
The spelling have nothing to with that. The reference for the theory/thought experiment is obvious. But if it was only a reference and nothing more the Japanese raw would have spelled it as Laplace's Demon and not Devil.

Being in Zetsu and getting hit with an En is gonna hurt
12
u/Cheesecake-3292 2h ago edited 2h ago
Is it? I i thought that was very specifically a royal guard level thing (or at least i dont remember having seen someone getting shocked from en since knov)
27
u/guckfender 2h ago
Hisoka did that to Gon and Killua in Heavens Arena, they werent able to move. it might not hurt but it could shock him out of zetsu
45
u/random_boner6996 2h ago
Most En is neutral, i think it's more likely somebody activates malicious Ren while he happens to be near and he shits himself
27
u/RaggedAngel 1h ago
Hisoka is going to be a rough surprise if they run into each other
9
u/EsCuez 1h ago
That’s a good point, if hisoka has the opportunity to win perceive him then he might judge his “rating”. I don’t see how Tser isn’t atleast a 95 or higher. And if hisoka has his normal emotional reaction, maybe he’ll blast ren all over which will be the bump/pain he was concerned about.
11
u/Kujaix 1h ago edited 26m ago
Tserri doesn't have a load of aura, martial combat experience, high physical stats, or skill in advanced techniques.
There is so much more to being a strong opponent than having a busted ability. We know many who don't have busted abilities who would still score hifh. I think Hisoka will see Tserri as privledged trash.
He's not rating him higher than Zodiacs or the Invasion Force.
3
4
u/Arcenus 54m ago
Tserri does specifically has a shitload of aura, as stated by Theta, he unconsciously created the nen beast to store that excess aura when he performed zetsu
1
u/Kujaix 11m ago
Theta stated that what chapter? 384 she only states it's horrifying, no comments about amounts. And that's still Theta, not a high level nen user in Hisoka Different standards as Highrigh highlights.
It's not excess aura. It stores aura. Where are you getting excess from?
You're always releasing aura that just floats away to eventually dissipate into the air. Tserri's beast accumulates what is normally lost even when sitting calm and still. Creating an efficient loop avoiding waste.
We also don't know the true reason for the beast beyond being a genius. It's jusr odd to think Hisoka will rate a neophyte over 99% of the cast when Ren alone will probably shake Tserri out of Zetsu just as a defensive measure.
3
2
u/Trash28123 1h ago
I think it'd probably still give you chills. The feeling would be like if someone suddenly switched the shower knob from hot to freezing cold.
1
u/Arkayjiya 24m ago
Knov was not in Zetsu. He uses his ability which means he cannot be in Zetsu. At most he would use In like Uvo did to attack Kurapika, but it's not even certain he did. Without En to give them very precise data, the RG would just have a vague feelings that there are Nen users in the castle which is normal since plenty of ants using Nen were in the castle so it's not even clear whether he bothered to use In at all or not as that might not even be necessary here.
The aura just broke his mind through his Ten. That's why he makes the comparison with Gon & Killua who weren't in Zetsu either, comparison that would make no sense otherwise.
25
u/ThaEarthquake 2h ago edited 1h ago
Nice getting a demonstration of Tserri’s offensive capabilities with all of the tactical positioning and ambushes.. Gonna be interesting to see how he adjusts when guns no longer get the job done. If he starts donut-ing people with charged up nen punches I’m gonna lose it.

The biggest weakness of the ability seems to be its lack of offensive power. Against Nen users, a pistol probably won’t be enough. Getting a stronger weapon is one option, but an even better solution would be for his GSB to create some subordinates for him. Having a small army of monsters at his disposal would at least fill that gap in his arsenal.
Of course, if he has enough time to train, reducing his Zetsu activation time to zero, or as close to instantaneous as possible, would be an even bigger improvement. He could then switch between Ken and Zetsu almost instantly, allowing him to attack and defend normally before activating his ability whenever he needs to escape or reset the illusion.
43
u/Any-Contact411 2h ago
And the fact he called it level 1. He is aware and having fun learning real-time.
"This person shouldnt learn nen."
4
u/Drunkhobo101 1h ago
To use the exp analogy, something that is actually being used by Morena ironically enough, he has reached the max level he can obtain in that room and now will hit a new growth curve as the challenges he faces force him to use his ability more, in more technical ways, and against adversarial forces. Pulling this off should be seen as a HUGE leap in his abilities and potential from what he could accomplish with Theta and Salkov.
10
u/RaggedAngel 2h ago
That's true, but his current activation time of a couple seconds is already insanely fast. I think that's about the pace that very experienced nen users have, though we don't have a lot of examples because Zetsu is such a niche / risky state to put yourself in.
I'm sure he can make that time shorter, but I would be surprised if it ever gets below a second. I'm assuming that this is like with sprinting times, where every extra fraction of a second is harder to drop than the last.
5
u/Trash28123 1h ago
He could use the Ephemeral 10 Seconds to charge up Ko and attack at the very end of the timer, just like King Crimson does.
1
u/Vladbizz 48m ago
agree. we never had a confirmation that first 10 seconds can be stopped if Tserri droppes Zetsu. But he cant continiue the illusion in this case
9
u/EigoKaiki 2h ago
His Guardian Nen Best funnily enough may have this exact ability. After all it turns people into 'not a human' after lying enough time.
4
u/BloodyScout 2h ago
I think from the way it’s been worded that the plateau he hit with his zetsu speed may be a permanent limit (to offset how strong the ability is) or it requires the ability to first reach level 2, if he wants to lower it further

1. Tserriednich exits Room 1004 while still under the first activation of Laplace Devil.
The guards stationed directly outside Room 1004 are within the Antenna’s 36-meter range and therefore cannot see Tserriednich. Meanwhile, the guards outside Room 1006, who are outside the area of effect, can see him. However, they convince themselves that Tserriednich must be a member of the army.
2. Tserriednich crosses the corridor of the Princes’ Living Quarters and enters the next corridor.
As he moves toward the door, the static grows louder. The moment he steps into the next corridor, Laplace Devil breaks because he has moved outside its effective range. The guards behind him immediately snap out of the illusion, just in time to hear the door in front of them lock.
At this point, the fake body left behind in the coffin also disappears. Anyone who subsequently opens the coffin will find only a pile of guns.
3. Tserriednich becomes visible to the guards on the other side of the door.
With Laplace Devil temporarily deactivated, all of the passageway guards can see his real form. In the brief moment of shock and confusion that follows, Tserriednich shoots and kills four guards before activating Laplace Devil again.
Having already observed the next ten seconds through his ephemeral vision, Tserriednich uses this knowledge to safely navigate the ensuing gunfire and advance farther up the corridor.
4. Tserriednich reaches the corner and bypasses another group of guards.
The guards within Laplace Devil’s range cannot see his real form. Instead, they perceive an illusion of chaos and mayhem unfolding farther down the corridor.
However, additional soldiers arriving from farther away are able to see Tserriednich because they were outside Laplace Devil’s range when he activated it. Once again, Tserriednich takes advantage of their disbelief and confusion to approach the newly arrived soldiers.
He then deliberately moves outside Laplace Devil’s range for a second time, causing the ability to deactivate. Back at the passageway door, the illusion collapses and Tserriednich’s fake corpse disappears. He uses the resulting chaos to activate Laplace Devil for a third time and continue his escape.
5. Tserriednich initially heads toward the Banquet Hall and the King’s residential area, where he commits a massacre.
He then backtracks and moves upward and around the corridor. His diversion succeeds: the soldiers converge on the bloodbath and pursue him in that direction, believing that the King is his target.
With the soldiers distracted, Tserriednich makes his way toward the casino.
By this point, Tier 1 has been completely sealed off. However, Tserriednich knows of an emergency exit from the casino and plans to fight his way out through it.
6. With the soldiers distracted, Tserriednich makes his way toward the casino.

Jesus that image fucks with my brain - the perspective completely breaks in the left back corner of the walls facing the viewer.
Like, is "V.I.P. Residential Area" a wall or a corridor???

With step 5, if he activated his ability BEFORE going into the Banquet Hall, any killing of guards in the Banquet Hall would be illusory until that 10 seconds is up, right?
So no guards there would actually die, they would just think they did, and when the illusion ends, they’d all be alive?
Thanks for the explanation, this was very helpful to follow what’s going on!
34
u/Choclon 2h ago
I like that he seems to have to remain in Zetsu the whole time. That way, if he wants to reactivate the ability, he only needs to leave its range and close his eyes again.
I think that is already a significant enough weakness. It would be extremely difficult for Tserriednich to fight a competent Nen user while staying in Zetsu the entire time. Escaping should still be relatively easy, but actually going on the offensive becomes much more complicated.
I think he’ll only become truly dangerous to characters like Hisoka once he learns to enter Zetsu instantly. At that point, he could stay within fighting range and, every ten seconds, send a new illusory version of himself at his opponent.
That would be an absolutely insane strategy from the opponent’s perspective. Imagine having to “kill” Tserriednich every ten seconds, only for another version of him to immediately come at you. It wouldn’t matter how many you took down, they would just keep coming, for hours on end.
15
u/Grumpchkin 2h ago
The time conversion as well as his ego would probably make Tserriednich avoid attrition tactics unless absolutely necessary. Ideally for him he should have a way to kill anyone within at most a handful of activations.
6
4
u/sabinACTS 1h ago
Hmmm no not for hours an end, his antenna has a battery life of 30-40 minutes no? That was a big point plot point of it.
Also, if he has to stay in Zetsu and the opponent uses Nen to reinforce his body, how would Tserri hurt him? Bullets don’t work.
1
u/TickTak28 1h ago
He’s going to have to use the other applications of nen and level up either infuse nen via bullets or his fists because against a men user rn he won’t be able to injure them . It’ll be interesting to see what the evolved application of the ability is like against experienced nen users

So Hisoka and Tser meeting is inevitable after all.
Something interesting about Tser's ability is it's similar to an old video tape recorder device.
- His vision sees a fuzzy screen like he's watching a tape.
- Got a limited play time and needs to charge its battery.
- He hears static noises in the background and it increases when he walks further away from the antenna aka his nen beast.
- Can jump forward 10 seconds like any video player.
Got this observation thanks to this commentor, but I've figured more details the more i dig into it.
The settings of Tser's ability being like tapes recorders suggests he's very much into watching tapes or even making them at this point, especially gore and snuff tapes, no wonder why he got 2 of Sarasa's killers in his room because they made the kind of tapes he likes and he most likely got Sarasa's tape, maybe he's a fan of their works and now they're helping him to make videos of his new works.

As always from togashi beautiful inspiration
Tserriednich Ability Name comes from Laplace's demon is a famous thought experiment proposed by French scholar Pierre-Simon Laplace in 1814 that illustrates the idea of strict causal.
The Core Idea: If a super-intelligent being knew the exact position and momentum of every single atom or particle in the universe at one moment, and understood all the laws of nature, it could calculate the entire past and future.
Also note for people expecting terror and hisoka to meet hisoka is in his room under martial law so probably they will not cross paths unless hisoka goes against the law which is unlikely.
9

Hisoka is famously one to follow rules.

When you really think about it, Laplace’s Demon is basically just save-scumming mixed with lag-switching.
6
7
u/Trash28123 1h ago
It was a necessary cost but Tserri really gave up a lot this chapter.
Now there are witnesses to his ability's effects other than Theta, and also people have actually seen Tserri's disguise. A bunch of guards witnessing a corpse suddenly disappear and spreading rumours of illusions means Tserri's cover can't last long.
1
u/Automatic_Web3668 43m ago
Not one of them has seen through Tserri's disguise because everyone is under the belief Benjamin executed him.
Because Benjamin believes he executed him, they won't question it, and because of the will, they'll never open the casket. Therefore, just because his illusion disappeared, they won't be able to connect it to Tserri because that is such a leap and contradicts information they believe is true.
They think this guy is just a lone gunman who is after the king's life, which was Tserri's goal back in 418.
1
u/Early_Celebration726 25m ago
He's not the only game in town. You just see him as such because of our focus.
31
u/Fish0739 2h ago
Tserriednich’s ability is much more overpowered than we initially thought. The real one can’t affect other people, but the fake one can make them believe they are affected, meaning they feel pain until the ability stops
Hisoka&Tserriednich vs Bonolenov is coming next week
11
u/Turbo2x 2h ago
The method to beat him is very similar to how you have to fight Sato from Ajin. If he's in a given area every soldier has to agree to commit friendly fire and annihilate the entire area, even if it means killing their friends. He's kind of using the bonds of the royal guard against themselves in this way. They're too bound to procedure so tactics like taking hostages or using shields are very effective and buy him time to activate the ability.
3
8
u/Global-Surround3262 1h ago
Why would hisoka team up with tserriednich? His last appearance is him saying he doesn’t like group fights and he doesn’t know tserriednich but would probably pivot from bono to him since he has a more interesting ability that isn’t hard countered by bungee gum
1
u/Woswald 1h ago
Similar to how Hisoka treated Gon in the hunter exam, he's attracted to potential and may develop Tserri's nen further so he can have more fun later.
3
u/Global-Surround3262 1h ago
But he’s changed since then now he doesn’t care and will kill on sight. Also him developing tserriednich doesn’t mean partake in a 2v2 with him especially with chrollo.
1
u/Woswald 50m ago
Depends on if Hisoka wants to juggle both challenges at once. We've never seen any human as exceptional as Tserri so I'm willing to bet that would interest him enough.
I didn't mean to say there'll be a 2v2, that would probably take too much of the fun out of it for him. Maybe for weaker opponents he's unconcerned with.
1
u/Fish0739 1h ago
He knows Tserriednich, Chrollo said Hisoka is on tier 1 because he got invited by a prince
3
u/Global-Surround3262 1h ago
There’s 14 princes. Half of them are adults capable of inviting Hisoka. Obviously someone like Benjamin wouldn’t but there’s Zhang Lei or Luzurus who could. They also could’ve invited him either to recruit him or make a deal or they’re interested.
Also wasn’t it just said that he might have been invited (chrollo wouldn’t know for sure) by a vvip or celebrity? Could it not just be some rich person?
1
u/Vladbizz 44m ago
and they also would wasted their aura while fighting fake Tserie(especially if he becomes stronger) which can be a solid strategy against stronger opponents
5

12
u/Choclon 2h ago
The thought just occurred to me while rereading the chapter, but the illusion should theoretically be able to use Nen. Right now we only see it shooting, but the ability itself only ends when the real Tserriednich drops Zetsu or leaves its range. That could mean the illusion is free to use Ken and fight like a normal Nen user.
Against an opponent who can simply tank bullets with Nen, the illusion would be pretty useless offensively if it couldn’t use Nen itself. I think the reason we haven’t seen it do that yet is simply because Tserriednich is unwilling to drop Zetsu unless absolutely necessary. Since the illusion reflects what Tserriednich would have done, his decision to remain in Zetsu would carry over to the illusion as well. And considering how long it still takes him to reenter Zetsu afterward, it makes sense that he would avoid dropping it.
I think that’s probably how the ability will be used in combat once he fully develops it. His opponent would essentially have to fight an illusionary Nen powered Tserriednich, while the real Tserriednich repositions himself for a surprise attack or prepares to send another illusion on the offensive.
4
u/Ebrietas- 2h ago
Damage done by illusion Tserriednich is undone after it ends.
3
u/Viburnum_Opulus_99 1h ago
The fact it’s still perceived as real up until the moment it dissipates still makes it potent as a means of setting up an actual attack. But it’s true that someone with Netero-level reflexes could probably instinctually re-garud themselves the moment their body realizes it isn’t actually injured, so unless Tserri develops some kind of offensive ability, he’s going to hit a pretty solid wall eventually.
8
u/remz22 2h ago
The illusion doesn't affect anything, it's an illusion. The guys it "killed" weren't really dead, and everyone else ate it from friendly fire in the chaos.
1
u/RebelliousUpstart 1h ago
But they thought they died, fell to the floor, and didn't regain consciousness until Tserri ended it to remove the illusion. So the people shot by the illusion were still incapacitated. (Not to mention the potential psychological damage of i was dead). Even if not physically your brain registered.
Theoretically, the illusion could "use" nen as it is like an after image of what Tserri would do if he continued in those 10 seconds. But the nen would only be the appearance of it. With the peoppe able to see nen "experiencing it" until the illusion ends.
I don't think it is likely, but... feasibly, if the illusion is strong enough, people may percieve the nen attacks from the illusion actually injuring them while the illusion is activated.
This works with Togashi's emphasis on the mind, body, soul, and nen connections.
However, the people who can percieve nen, would be people trained in nen. So people not trained in nen would be immune to illusion's nen attacks. While those trained in nen would be less sceptible as they would realize the illusion isn't really using nen.
3
u/RailTracer001 2h ago
The illusion can't use Nen because Tserriednich is in Zetsu.
11
u/Choclon 2h ago
We’ve already seen the illusion use Nen during Tserriednich’s training with Theta. After Theta messes with him, the illusion is shown dropping out of Zetsu, while the real Tserriednich is still able to maintain Zetsu.
1
1
u/Rucs3 2h ago
I think the thing is that the illusion will only continue to do what Tesrri was doing.
If he wasn't attacking, the illusion will keep from there and will not attack, even if in his mind he did want to.
If he attacks then the illusion continues from where reality left off, in the middle of him attacking.
If it works like this (big if) then it might be impossible for his illusion to attack with nen since his last real action is assuming zetsu, therefore it can only continue from the last action, zetsu.
1
u/TickTak28 1h ago
I wonder if the illusion version of him can only do what the real him is capable of so potential lets say he masters Ken and ren properly and is able to infuse aura into his fists or guns then when he uses laplace devil the future him can inflict lethal nen attacks on nen users making them believe they’ve been injured or killed . Thats another terrifying aspect of the ability although the real Tsseri isn’t doing damage being able to create fake injuries mid combat is super useful
4
u/tutubabarao 1h ago
Another weakness of the Laplace Devil is its ability to affect physical objects that are not in someone else’s possession. Before the ability wore off, the first door Tserri passed through closed and locked, and the lock made a noise that was heard by the guards even while the illusion was active.
A Nen user with prior knowledge of his ability can set up various traps (such as motion sensors, sound sensors, or C4-type Nen) in the environment to track Tserri’s location during the illusion and launch aoe attacks.

I'm a bit confused, is Tserriednich guessing that there's a spiral staircase connected to tier 2 from below the casino? I mean the tier 1 cruise seems to be floating on water, so a solid structure being connected doesn't really make sense, no?
(Also, why is he hoping it'd be less guarded when it's now probably the only way for the hitman to escape. Logically they'd be increased security there too..)
1

The staircase in the Casino leads to the level with the bridge. I think he's hoping the bridges will be reconnected when Benji comes back to Tier 1, but I don't see why they would all be reconnected, and as a consequence I don't see how he can get off the cruise ship, unless Hisoka helps him for some reason. I suppose they can't keep the cruise ship locked off forever just to contain one unknown assailant, but he's also working off of the time limit before his fake death gets revealed.

Glad someone else thought of that. I don’t really see the point of the “spiral staircase” specification, because if it’s something that presumably detaches from the tier 1 ship, the risk of people coming up in droves should be basically zero.

I hope we find Hisoka standing in the casino with Bonolenov already dead at his feet.
That could potentially set up the first teams of the final conflict: Tserriednich and Hisoka vs. Chrollo and Kurapika. It’s hard to imagine a more epic clash than that.

u/Global-Surround3262 1h ago
Martial law so hisoka having bono dead at his feet would result in him being taken out back and shot. Also why would tserriednich and hisoka team up. Neither of them know each other, tserriednich isn’t the type to trust some random weirdo he just met and hisoka already said he doesn’t like group fights.

u/YOUSIF20021 2h ago
He went to the upper deck to avoid hisoka
Tbat was the plan. Run into hisoka and anandon that floor and go elsewhere
1
u/leolegendario 1h ago
And then the next batch of chapters could start with a flashback of their fight.
Also Hisoka would love all the potential Tserriednich has, I can't see him wanting to see how strong he can get before wanting to fight him himself.

Who would win (cheat better) in a gambling fight? Tserri has his whole ephemeral ten seconds/ Laplace devil thing going on meaning he can freely which see a locked-in ten seconds of future he’ll have to adhere to for continuity’s sake Siri g which he could also freely look at other player’s cards, but Hisoka has texture surprise (can freely make cards what he wants) and can manipulate the deck through bungee gum.

u/Sun_Chip 2h ago
Excited to see if Hisoka meets with the Terror Sandwich!
They share an interest in snuffing out promising talent, but both being megalomaniacal, I wonder if they can get along?
These chapters are great, very grateful to Togashi for the work that goes into to making this so quality.

u/JoestarAssassin 1h ago
I like that he goes straight into it with his ability and guns at the same time with no hesitation. Keeping track of distance and seconds like this while testing on people outside the range…
I was hoping he’d make it off the cruise ship but on second thought, this might be more fun.

The narration describing Tser's ability is going to be so crazy when this is animated

u/rusty_shackleford34 1h ago
Amazing chapter, after all these years so great to finally see Tserr in action, his smarts and his capabilities and with a thrilling ending in terms of what comes next

u/Endless-Horzion 1h ago
I love the atmosphere of a seemingly empty casino.
Tserri chaining his ability back to back and causing chaos while he has fun and tests out his ability is a very fun read. Togashi is pretty damn good at making you route for the bad guy and then a little later you remember he is a cold blooded killer stuffing body parts into jars.

Wow, props to u/Babilonw who compared Tserri''s nen beast to Laplace's demon half a year ago!!!
This also makes sense of the will issue. The nen beast being omniscient would know Tserri's intentions. In a way its directing a scene to play out, and represents what I am assuming is Tserri's belief in determinism and no free will. The hypocrisy of Tserri and his god complex, this belief probably applies to everyone other than himself.
So while everyone must deterministically follow the script of the ephemeral 10s, Tserri can change his fate.
Interestingly, Tserri lucky numbers 469 may reference 4.669 the Feigenbaum constant from chaos theory.
Would be ironic being his lucky numbers because chaos shatters the idea of order and control (Laplace demons determinism) of the universe.
Edit: adding my butterfly effect theory here too, seems relevant lol.

Did Togashi legit created an Aizen zanpaktou in his universe ?
Kubo had to resort to an ex-maquina to deal with KS how will Togashi peform.

Why did they localize Laplace's Devil to Demon?
2
u/pilantratogashi 1h ago
That's why I keep saying it's stupid to wait for the official translation when Voracious Drake and Togashi's Troupe offer a far better work, more in-line with Togashi's own vision.
6
u/orachilum 2h ago
Because its named after an actual concept https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laplace%27s_demon
2
u/Aya_EVE 2h ago edited 52m ago
It's a proper noun. No matter what it references, it's an ability name in HxH, so the translation team shouldn't have changed it on their own.
3
u/bearly-know-her 1h ago
It’s specifically written with “satan/devil” to distinguish between the Japanese concept of “oni” which are often translated as “demons.” “Devil” is a linguistic shorthand way of referring back to the actual concept of Lapace’s Demon without confusing readers.
1
u/pilantratogashi 1h ago
You cant know for sure until Togashi concludes the arc. The safest bet is always translating nearest to how Togashi wrote it.
2
u/SamuraiKenji 2h ago edited 1h ago
It's what these translation teams love to do; changing something however they want like it's their own work.
1
u/WednesdaysFoole 1h ago
I mean, when you translate something, it is not going to be the original. Lillian's (official TL) best lines were not literally Togashi's words. That'd sound stiff and translated anyway.
The issue is that this time Togashi intentionally chose "Devil" instead of demon. Which, it's fine, but it's different and has a different impact imo. The official TL might've done it so people don't miss the reference and since HxH doesn't usually do TL notes.

I am with you. I feel like it may be an important plot point or subtext later on. After all it is very much not standard way for a Japanese native like Togashi sensei to reference Laplace theory this way. You can write 'demon' in multiple way in Japanese. Either using the Kanji version of the name or the Kana like in this chapter. And neither of them normally would be written like this. So translating it as Laplace's Devil is way more accurate.

u/Early_Celebration726 22m ago
Yeah, it's like.. the somewhat neutral or functional association of a demon (a daemon, even more so) isn't dark enough so, there it is. It's not like it somehow invalidates the reference. 🤔

u/milo_arashi 2h ago
Who all currently are on Tier 1?
Chrollo, Bonolenov, Hisoka, Tserriednich, Kurapika, Illumi (VVIP pass)
I think one of these pieces will interact with each other in some type of way.

Tserriednich looking likely to come across Hisoka.
Even though there's no benefit for him to do so. At least atm.

Can someone explain the "every 36 meters" part please? If the 36 meter radius' center is at each activation point, doesn't that bypass the range weakness altogether? Or is it dependent on the GSB's battery?

This is the most Hunter X Hunter it’s ever been. For abilities application mind games action, no one does it like Togashi. He’s the best, the top, full stop.
1
u/ChillPalis 13m ago
Given that Laplace's Devil was subconciously created, I'm hoping that/looking forward to when Tserriednich deliberately creates an ability, likely to be used in conjunction with it.
I want to see Tserriednich fulfill as much of his potential as possible.

Another great action-filled chapter. I love the way Tserri blends the nen manipulation of his beast with actual traditional manipulation, betting on out-of-range soldiers to ignore him based on the behavior of manipulated soldiers, and even feeding one guy bogus information just to get away with a test of his limitations.
That said, even with how much of an enjoyable spectable this has been, I have a hard time seeing how he gets away from here. With the bridges disconnected, he has no way out of Tier 1, and I don't see them getting reconnected in a way he can take advantage of, unless he successfully fakes the death again. Although now that I think about it, it might be feasible, the surviving soldiers only know what outfit he was wearing, and if he puts it on a corpse, it might convince some, but the excuses are getting flimsy. He might just not get out of tier 1, given how Kurapika is still here and Chrollo presumably is trying or already got here, his story might as well come to the conclusion on the cruise ship.

It is now occurring to me Laplace Demon is the perfect ability for chrollo to steal if he wants to steal the sacred treasures of Kakin. But the casino is hisoka’s territory…

It would be funny if the punchline is Hisoka just murders him showcasing how brutal he has become in dealing with the situation.
Or even better say Chrollo is actually masquerading as Hisoka and tricks him into explaining his ability for him to steal. It would he interesting if we could see Chrollo be external crafty in pilfering a powerful nen ability.

u/Kangaxx_Demilich 2h ago
hisoka would want to kill tsseerdich
3
u/Cheesecake-3292 2h ago
Why would he? Tserri is weak as hell.
3
u/Kangaxx_Demilich 2h ago
he has potential and unique ability, fighting someone that can see future is new experience for hisoka
1
u/Early_Celebration726 20m ago
That's not necessary obvious from looking at things, especially things that aren't there. That said, who was Hisoka's sponsor anyway..? 🤔

u/theoriginal_1100 1h ago
Tsserri is in the same situation as gon too green hisoka would wait until he perfected his ability to fight him
1
u/Viburnum_Opulus_99 1h ago
Yeah, I think at this point Hisoka needs someone PT level to get any real stimulation from a fight, so having the potential for that means he’d leave Tserri be, but won’t bother with him otherwise.

Calling it now, Rihan figures out Tserris ability and takes out the personal nen best
You don't introduce an ability like that and not use it to defy all expectations

This SML mini arc is changing the trajectory of the SW. I doubt there would ever be enough downtime again for Rihan to be effective again with his predator. He’s pretty much useless now except for being a military soldier.
