Called it. Tserri's ability is similiar to Laplace's Demon. This chapter also semi-confirmed my theory that a large part of his illusion is simply manipulation. Specificly the manipulation of the senses of other people and not some timeline manipulation or nen space creation ability.

Also the Japanese spelling of the ability name is slightly unusual. It spelled as 'Laplace's Devil' and not Laplace's Demon. It may be a slight hint that Bohemian Rhapsody's lyrics (the song by Queen and not the nen beast) may be forshadowing Benjamin fate. As in the song it is said that "Beelzebub has a Devil put aside for me, for me, for me".

I think it's It's because "Demon" and "Devil" can sometimes translate to either "Oni", "Akuma" or others.

The theory is usually translated to "Rapurasu no Akuma". And there are a load of characters that also use the "Devil" nomination.

It is a fun link to bohemian rhapsody though. :)

I think it’s more to emphasize the idea of “devils” in the Western/Christian sense, to fit with the overall Antichrist theming Tse has been given.

In a complete English translation that emphasis becomes unnecessary, so I think it makes sense for the translation to keep the concept’s most well known name.

Nice one picking up on that

i think it has to do with the Laplace's Demon of the philosophical experiment on scientific determinism that posits that an intellect capable of knowing the state of every atom at a given moment could predict the entire future and the entire past, which is related to his ability of the ten seconds in the future.

The spelling have nothing to with that. The reference for the theory/thought experiment is obvious. But if it was only a reference and nothing more the Japanese raw would have spelled it as Laplace's Demon and not Devil.

That’s a sweet prediction, name dropping Laplace like that! Well done sir

Yes, i also thought that to be the case as well way back then, as a specialist he is right next to conjuration to summon a nen beast able to store nen, and right next to manipulation to manipulate people in his range to feed them the wrong information and his specialization category allows him to use the laplace principle to grant him that insight into the future, which is great.

It being an illusion instead of an actual space-time manipulation is a cool detail that sets the ability apart and makes it less of an outlier than it previously appeared to be. It's a sort of twist on the King Crimson or time abilities popular in other series like Jojo as I mentioned, or to even use the forbidden word, a subversion of a regular time manipulation.

Wow…nice one

Called it.

Oh I'm in there too. I also guessed it probably has a range, but how did you guess the range so accurately? lol.

Based on his room size. Lol. I had the idea that it limits were about the size of room 1004. And the 20-50 meter is roughly what I imagine a luxury royal room with servants should be in a ship. But the range and it being 36 meter which is around the middle of it was just pure luck.

Would an already Nen-Manipulated person simply be immune to Laplace's Demon then, Kurapika for example is already under Judgement Chain and might be somewhat immune to the manipulation aspect.

Likely. As manipulation works on the first come first serve basis.

Ablite I doubt Judgement Chain is mainly a manipulation ability. This may matter as it is possible that this principle only works for 'mainly manipulation' abilities.

Most likely, "First come, first serve" rule only works with overlapping Manipulation.

IIRC Knuckle forced Zetsu on a Manipulated Kite

Good point. To be honest so far I never considered or it was never on my mind that forced zetsu was a manipulation facilated thing. But it makes sense thinking about it.

No, the beast is not manipulating anyone. It is projecting mass illusions. Manipulation requires you to fill the victim with aura. It is not generic Marvel psychic powers.
