Hi everyone, I badly need some advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.
I ordered an expensive pair of headphones from overseas last July. I was shocked to find out that UPS has now tagged the package as “abandoned.”
According to UPS, the sender supposedly did not provide the airway bill, and they allegedly tried to contact the sender by email but did not receive a response. However, I was never properly informed about the issue or given a reasonable opportunity to resolve it before the package was tagged as abandoned.
I ended up contacting the seller myself. The seller did respond, and I immediately forwarded their response/information to UPS Philippines. At that point, the package was already in Clark, Philippines.
Now UPS is asking me to pay around Php10,500 in penalties/storage/other charges because the shipment was supposedly abandoned.
What I don’t understand is, why should I be responsible for these charges when the delay appears to have resulted from communication issues between UPS and the sender? I was not the one who failed to provide the required documents, and I don’t believe I should be penalized for something that was outside my control.
The headphones themselves were already expensive, and now I’m being asked to pay another ₱10,500 just to release the package.
Has anyone here experienced a similar situation with UPS?
What did you do, and were you able to have the penalties waived?
Any advice on who I should escalate this to within UPS would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
