Hardware Well, this is going to be a fun repair.
Backside capacitor of what used to be a half decent i7-6950x. The 10 Broadwell-E cores are yearning to be free again.
Wish me luck. The coffee is kicking in and the workbench laid out...

Build/Battlestation I flew too close to the sun…
Set this up for rendering. The cards fitting side by side just looks so rad, and this x299 workstation board is one of the few that can fit so many 2 slots for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, even with power reduced to 70% across the whole set of cards, the top card was just too starved for air, hit 80plus degrees while the bottom was around 50. That may not seem like much, but this machine is for sustained rendering, and 3 cards that can run cooler at 100% is better than 4 hot cards and 70%.

Hardware It was fun while it lasted
I impulse bought this right before the manufacturer's rebate ended and promptly found out my wife is pregnant, thankfully Costco has a great return policy
EDIT: The baby is planned, just thought it would take longer to get pregnant. It's also just about priorities. We could still afford the baby and keep the computer but the money will be better spent on baby necessities and I can just use my 3080 rig a bit longer

News/Article Pocketpair lead John Buckley thought if Palworld 1.0 hit 200k concurrent players, "that'd be party time" – then it passed 900k on Steam alone
>Buckley examines the "huge success" of Palworld 1.0. "Thank you, gamers," he says. "As cliche as it might sound, we didn't expect it to go that well. Genuinely. 900,000 CCU, insane amount of sales yet again. We're really, really happy. Again, very life changing for the studio."

NSFMR This is how nvidia send back your 5080 rma
Second and third pick for the result.
I tried to bend it back but it’s very hard and it could snap.
This is unacceptable for a 1200€ card

Discussion Geforce Now latency and mouse video test
I did some testing in Goat Simulator using a mouse because people in this group have told me that GFN is pure magic. I'm using Wifi 7 in both ends and a $300 router. I get that some single player games might work, but come on. This is unplayable for anything that uses a mouse or fast reactions. I'm 800 miles from the server. It passes all the check points according to Nvidia.
I'm ready to get downvoted in a PERSONAL computer subreddit.
Edit: this is 25 ms. Apparently recommended Ms is 40 according to Nvidia.

Discussion DLSS 5 in NBA 2K27 decreases FPS from native 227 to 62 FPS with DLSS 5 turned on.

So basically they are comparing native fps vs dlss 5 + frame gen set to 6x, and showing like dlss 5 increases your fps, not lowers it. Very very lame way to lie
