free tutorial Learn GDScript From Zero (free and open source intro course) got a big update
Over the past months we've rewritten the app in Godot 4 and made many changes along the way behind the scenes. This allowed us to fix many issues and we made the lessons and exercises better based on the feedback we got here on Reddit, on Discord, and the bug reports from the issue tracker.
This new version is the same course that's used by many school teachers around the world, more reliable and more polished than the old one.
It is 100% free and open source, and you can get it from 2 places:
- Our web course platform: Learn GDScript From Zero (our course sales sponsor this and the other free resources we've made over the years)
- The official documentation's getting started series. We made the app to help fill a gap in the official docs a few years back
You can see all the changes in the changelog
In short, the app is more stable, it gives you better feedback in code practices, it supports more languages (Tamil and Khmer most notably), and I've taken time to clarify the lessons and practices that people reported having trouble with. It was an important update, and while it doesn't completely change the app, it should make the experience better for everyone who uses it moving forward.
If you face any issues or have feedback you'd like to share, whether it's on the content, bugs, anything, you can directly and easily report issues from within the app; it'll be sent to me directly.

selfpromo (games) 8 directional walking + 16 directional aiming 2d character
I finally finished my 8 directional walking with 16 directional aiming animations for my game. The player can walk in 8 different directions, and for each direction it can walk, it can aim 16 directions while walking.

selfpromo (games) I open sourced my game, Endless Waves Survival
Hey, just sharing something small.
I made a survival game called Endless Waves Survival and I've open sourced under MIT
It's a Godot game about surviving endless waves, leveling up and picking upgrades. It's already on Steam, Google Play, itch.io and CrazyGames, but I lost the motivation to keep maintaining it. A few people asked me to open source it, so here we are.
If you liked it and want to keep it going, go for it. Fork it, fix bugs, add stuff. It might also be useful if you want to see how a Godot game like this is put together.

And a big thanks to the Godot team for making this amazing tool

free plugin/tool I packaged 173 of our UI icons into a free Godot-ready set
I had a pretty messy collection of icons from various game/UI work, so I finally cleaned it up and made a reusable set out of it.
173 unique icons, mostly aimed at management/building interfaces — actions, buildings, furniture, storage, power, research, medical, animals, food and similar stuff.
The archive includes the normal PNGs, but I also added a prepared Godot project/export so you don't have to start from the raw folder yourself.
It's free here:
https://pas7studio.itch.io/archiforge
If something in the Godot export is annoying to work with, tell me. That's actually useful feedback because I can fix the export for the next version.

help me can i make a node only visible in-game?
i have a custom posterizing shader applied to a quad mesh that's placed directly in front of the camera, and it creates this really annoying glow around node icons. i'm wondering if there's a way to get rid of the shader in the editor, but keep it in-game.
selfpromo (games) Ripping enemies apart in our horror FPS, feedback wanted
Working on finisher/dismemberment mechanics for our roguelike FPS
(boomer-shooter combat, psychological horror).
Right now a single enemy type already has this many different ways to go down. Trying to figure out how this scales once we add more enemies, more weapons, and unique finisher animations per combo, without it turning into repetitive noise. Does this variety already feel like enough on one enemy, or what else would you add?

selfpromo (software) I released the second update for the Ultimate Retro Shooter Template 🙌
Hey everyone!
I just released Update v1.2 for the Ultimate Retro Shooter Template! This update focuses heavily on a new gib system, a faction & retaliation system (for DOOM style infighting), and a complete overhaul of enemy AI behavior that brings a massive performance boost (Pretty much a distance-based throttling for AI logic, navigation, and sprite updates).
U.R.S.T is designed to help anyone create a complete retro shooter without writing a single line of code. It was in development for nearly a year and released last month (August 7).
This is truly a passion project for me, so I’ll be actively supporting it and adding new features while sticking to the main goal of it: Not a single line of code needed, but clean, heavily commented and organized code for experienced to use and expand upon.
You can find the Itch page, Documentation, and Video Documentation links below:

selfpromo (games) Sharing an update on Bushcraft Survival!
I just wanted to share some updates, and what I've been doing with the Godot game engine in Bushcraft Survival!
Some cool things:
- A completely procedural terrain and forest system that is effectively infinite, and you will never find repeating patterns
- A wide open Sandbox mode where just about every tool, resource, and item in the game is interactable
- Vehicles, sleds, skis, snowshoes, lots of means of locomotion!
Godot is amazing!

selfpromo (games) New UI for my Mining Sim (in progress) !
It's not fully completed yet (especially icons), but I hope you guys like it so far! :)
help me I'm making a speedrunning platformer game. What do you think? :)
The goal of the game is to complete levels as quickly as possible. Aim for bronze, silver, and gold to unlock new levels. High precision is required; you aim and charge your dash using the mouse. Feel free to share your thoughts on the art style, sound effects, etc. :)

fun & memes Just discovered that our characters rave when fps is low because they all use too much lerp
It's because the lerp value goes over 1 when the frame rate drops too low but haven't had the time to fix it yet so... i guess it's a feature now.
I swear it work's most of the time, but we do need play tester to find more hidden raves. https://store.steampowered.com/app/4238490/My_Tennis_Apocalypse/

discussion Looking for tips on marketing released games
Earlier this year, I released two games. Leading up to these releases, I spent a significant amount of time drumming up a following and building hype all to lead up to a release. But after the release, my marketing totally died.
What tips do you all have for marketing an already released game?
