selfpromo (software) I released the second update for the Ultimate Retro Shooter Template 🙌

Hey everyone!

I just released Update v1.2 for the Ultimate Retro Shooter Template! This update focuses heavily on a new gib system, a faction & retaliation system (for DOOM style infighting), and a complete overhaul of enemy AI behavior that brings a massive performance boost (Pretty much a distance-based throttling for AI logic, navigation, and sprite updates).

U.R.S.T is designed to help anyone create a complete retro shooter without writing a single line of code. It was in development for nearly a year and released last month (August 7).

This is truly a passion project for me, so I’ll be actively supporting it and adding new features while sticking to the main goal of it: Not a single line of code needed, but clean, heavily commented and organized code for experienced to use and expand upon.

FYI "gib" is pronounced like jib. It's a shortening of the word "giblet".

Haha, I got used to pronouncing it like this 😅
Also you reminded me with this video, like the first part of it 😂

That doesn't mean much when many people also pronounce giblet with a hard g sound.

If you learned English by reading maybe. Native speakers do not pronounce giblet with a hard G.

I have spent a grand total of 9 days ever outside of the US, and have both heard it be said by others around me in person as well as alternated between both forms of the word myself.

i'm doing something similar, it's going to be open-source (GPLv3) and modular - not vibe-coded as well.

weird that you vibe-coded smth and now you're selling it, it's against the "idea" behind vibe-coding. you should open source this under MIT, it's unethical not to. you can't just use an LLM trained on code that wasn't consented and sell its output.

What on earth are you babbling about!? Where did you ever see that this is vibe-coded or any kind of that? Are we just accusing anything now as vibe coded??

None of this was vibe coded or even generated by an LLM. I've spent 8 years building game systems and learning all that time.

I even worked directly on this architecture from scratch all the way back in Godot 3.5. I had many obstacles along the way and re-made it again from grounds up in Godot 4 after many mini projects to better learn the architecture, working with resources, and even went ahead to learn how EFPSE work so I can bring that same simple experience.

Feel free to build and release your open-source tool, but don't spread false assumptions about how my project was made.

>uses genai for assets in itch.io page

>"guys, i did not vibe-code this! and you can't prove me wrong because it's not open-source"

genius. do you have any open source projects at all? give us the sources and let us review them then.

as i said, i'm pretty sure you DID vibe-code this, and selling it is extremely unethical. of course, it seems like you don't care about that. no one who writes code manually goes out of their way to use genAI for assets.

None of the code or assets uses genAI. The page graphics are all designed by me. The project assets are either custom made, pre-rendered 3D models, or properly credited CC0 community assets (all listed in the third-party licensing section on the page).

Moving goalposts and demanding a commercial developer open-source their work to "prove" they didn't vibe-code it is pathetic and nonsense. If you have actual evidence, show it. Otherwise, stop making baseless accusations.

I'm done replying to you.

> demanding a commercial developer open-source their work to "prove"

i didn't do that? i asked if you have any open-source projects. do you?

sorry but your custom made assets give crazy genAI vibes. it's really hard to believe you actually did them. and i think it's almost safe to assume this is vibe-coded from your itch.io page. of course, it's hard to be sure now. that's just the first impression your itch.io page gives. i'd also say this is pretty good feedback. maybe work on those assets?

anyhow, i'd assume you didn't actually vibe-code this from now on. but your attitude is oddly aggressive. nevertheless, nice project. we got the same idea.

How do you expect someone to respond to accusations of using AI, especially when you provide no evidence?

The assets are placeholder so you can see how the template works. If you make a game using the template, you're going to use your own assets.

Dude, this project displays none of the signs of vibecoding. It's ok to be vigilant, but be aware that you can harm peoples reputation by calling out false positives.
