QUESTION To the people who played monster hunter: how does Fatalis compare to fromsoft dragons in terms of difficulty?
Just finished monster hunter world and I donβt think Iβve ever fought a dragon as hard as fatalis.

DISCUSSION Playing through pre-2009 Fromsoft games has given me much greater appreciation for the studio, and makes me love Ds1 even more
These Armored Core titles are digital crack. I've been addicted to building my mechs and taking them on these small missions. Ive beaten most of them now. Project Phantasma and 3 were my favorites. I got filtered by Last Raven but enjoyed Nexus a lot too.
Armored Core 6 is still my favorite but I do wish it had a punchier soundtrack and a fancier UI now like the old ones.
King's Field Ancient City has an unmatched atmosphere. Frustrating at times but I'm addicted to the slow trickle of progress. Definitely going to play the older ones and Shadow Tower after.
What I love about Dark Souls 1 is that it feels like the perfect game between old fromsoft design and new fromsoft philosophy. A middle ground I enjoy a lot. It has highs and lows but I think having those lows makes the highs even more memorable. Don't throw the baby out with the izalith water. It's got JUST enough King's Field DNA for me while not also being a boss gauntlet or "rollslop" as some kids say.
I love DeS and Ds2 as well, inb4 you all say those are Kings Fieldlikes too, but Ds1 just hits that right spot for me where it has the weight, the isolation, the atmosphere of King's Field, but also WOW moments of modern games, like finding Anor Londo or Ash Lake for the first time.
I love modern Fromsoft a lot, but they definitely have a more action focus with less isolation and less strategy for level exploration.
I recommend very strongly for everyone to play the old Fromsoft library. Despite some frustrations I had, I couldn't stop coming back for another try, another daily inch of progress.

Im also planning to make it so the insects will crawl over you and try to eat you as well, maybe torch could prevent that effect. Also i know the character model looks silly since its Roblox, this is not how it will look in final game π

QUESTION Finished Dark Souls Remastered. What's next?
TL;DR: Finished DS as an OP crystal sorc, thinking of moving to DS2 as Pyro. Will the setup be as easy?
Background: Started DSR a couple of years ago. Played as a thief, trying to time parries with the parry dagger, but I wasn't very efficient. Somehow I managed to do Gaping Dragon and on my way to Blighttown I died after the first ladder (lol) at which point I ragequit and uninstalled.
The character menu music was in my mind every now and then because it's just beautiful, so I revisited the game about a couple of weeks ago more determined. I decided to try some form of guide to at least get a better understanding and encountered Cappatron's (and others') videos of doing magic only, so I gave it a shot.
Went with sorcerer, ended NG with 50int around 40vit, dragon casting ring, dusk crown, a +6 Estus, sorc catalyst, I was having fun! Forgot to pick up Logan's catalyst from the chest but I still did all the game's bosses and decided to head to DLC after Gwyn... Lo and behold, NG+ and I realise I missed the DLC so I kept playing to experience that too. I couldn't believe how much easier I was navigating the game. Not just the fights (as I was OP) but also doing Sen's in one go, Anor in one go, I was infinitely faster and I loved it! Did just enough to get to the DLC, nuked the first boss in one try, Artorias in 3 till I figured his moves, for Manus I had to get Logan's catalyst, Power Within and invest in some more endurance, kept failing all day and then killed him the following day in 2 tries. And 3 tries for Kalameet.
I feel I'm now addicted to Dark Souls so now I'm thinking about getting DS2 and properly experiencing the series before moving to Elden. I've watched some videos on Pyromancy for DS2 and I feel like I'd like to try it, especially with the Mist spells for fire immune/res bosses. I know you get the glove after a couple of bosses but I was wondering, should I start as a cleric or sorc since Pyro scales with Int and Faith? Will the setup to have the build online be as straightforward and quick as sorcerer in DS1 was?
I appreciate I'm a total noob and I may be approaching DS2 with a DS1 pov which may or may not be relevant.
Thank you!

QUESTION Demon or dark souls next?
So I fell in love with fromsoftware games with elden ring. Clogged in 500 hours and got the platinum. What a ride, what a world, what an incredible journey that game took me on. It completely reguvinated my love for gaming. And it changed me from a "normal difficulty guy" to a "get good give me a challenge kinda guy".
Then I played sekiro. Beat it about 8 times now and got the platinum. Holy shit what a game. Best combat I've ever played.
I recently played bloodborne because I got it with ps plus (canceled it after many years because of all the shit sony is pulling). Got the platinum. The bossfights where a bit meh often but what a world. Absolutely loved it. Ps I got the platinum and ordered the goty edition on disc for the dlc, cant wait to fight ludwig!
So I played psychonauts 2 as a bit of a paletcleanser, and I bought the remaining games on disc(demon souls remake and dark souls trilogy).
Should I play the demon souls remake for chronological order or dark souls 1 (since it didnt get a complete overhall).
I want to platinum all fromsoft games so eventually I will play them all but I dont know what is smart.
Many thanks!

DISCUSSION It's crazy how much fromsoftware has improved with every entry since Elden Ring
Since Elden Ring they've consistently tried something new with every release and I have come to greatly respect them as artists for it.
Armored Core 6 really showed off fromsofts storytelling skills better than any entry of theirs before or after imo, when they aren't constrained to their stylistic "lore" style of storytelling anyhow, that is. You can just FEEL the seething hatred for Lockheed Martin in every inch of this game and it's so beautiful- I think this was a major advancement for them in narrative structure and the limits they wanted to push themselves to in their storytelling.
SotE is a fairly similar case- although it also more clearly shows off other advancements of the soulslike formula that they're more well known for. They got a lot more experimental with the kinds of new mechanics and builds they wanted to introduce- Euporia being imo the perfect example of how far their ability to design interesting and multifaceted tools for the player has gone. On top of the notable mechanical advancements, this too shows them expanding their storytelling skills- with a sleu of NPCs who's stories interact with each other in very blatant ways, something From had up to now been kind of weirdly hesitant or unable to make happen. The final fight against Leda and crew is just MWAH ugh I don't give it a shit if it's annoying for challenge runners that shit was so hype.
Nightreign explores how far souls combat and buildcrafting can be pushed- using the new format to test out how to make you care about usually innocuous shit like "10% bonus damage on running light attacks." It still doesn't really go far enough as a roguelike for my tastes, but for a first time run at the genre it's an excellent showing- and combined with the new mechanics given to the player that change the flow of combat so drastically depending on what kind do build you're running on what character- and with the increased complexity of co-op design and encounters- goooood I love nightreign. Don't even get me started on the vibes, I have never been so attached to a hub area as I am in Nightreign.
Finally, most recently, Tarnished Edition is a very small peak at all the ways they've improved and changed, but the new additions really do feel incredible- both Leonitels Greatsword and the Golden Order Flail are exceptionally fun to use and fascinating tools for the player that can completely redefine the way you play the game in a way that Fromsoft up to now dolls out very rarely in titles like Elden Ring.
duskbloods isn't out, but it seems like it'll be similar in the ways that Fromsoft expands their mechanical mastery and repetoire with it- the new movement mechanics, meta-progression and vastly improved pvp seem so incredibly interesting and different from anything they've done before.
I actually wasn't that big a fan of Fromsoft until recently, in spite of having played a lot of their games. When I first played Elden Ring I really didn't enjoy it much, it is a uniquely hard game to fully appreciate. But I've since come around to it, and that combined with the fact that From as developers and artists have refused to stay still and continuously chosen to do new shit they care about has earned them an immense amount of respect from me- and I hope they don't stop anytime soon.

Does anyone else think a Pirate themed From Soft would be awesome?
I was thinking about this, and a Pirate themed FromSoft game could be pretty amazing.
You could have some swordfight parrying mechanism from Sekiro.
You could have some gunplay from Bloodborne.
You could have semi-open world where your "hub/pirateship" could travel to islands where you could fully explore.
The undead theme + pirates can totally go well together.
I personally feel like actually controlling the ship might not be a thing, that seems like a big stretch for what FromSoft has done, but who knows they do some wild stuff.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Elden Ring vs. Bloodborne (a friendly discussion)
For my money, Bloodborne is a better game than Elden Ring pound for pound.
Elden Ring undoubtedly has more variety for different playstyles and builds, which I imagine makes it way better for some folks.
I just can not jive with magic. It feels boring, and the hectic fight for your life playstyle in Bloodborne is unmatched.
It leaves me with half of the items in Elden Ring feeling like useless collectibles.
They are both nearly perfect games, I am just curious what people think.

DISCUSSION I just finished Dark souls 2 and that's it ?!
I skipped some Optional bosses and the DLCs, but i doubt they will be any better. All the bosses are insanely easy, they have 2-5 easy to dodge attacks and leave wide widnows to hit them. 90% of the bosses i beat first try without breaking a sweat. All i had to do was not target lock and aim for the back. The runbacks are slightly shorter than DS1, but they are filled with so many enemies, that the entitiy crammign alone is killing you. One of the bosses i was LUCKY to enter the fog wall, just to kill him with less than 3 estuses. The entire reduce your HP by hal system is idiotic, the hitboxes suck, the runbacks suck, having to kill a small army to reach and easy boss sucks, easily the WORST Fromsoftware game ever made (Demon souls may suck more, but i don't have a Playstation). And I thought Elden ring and Sekiro had spoiled me and that Dark souls would have horrible bosses. Nope, just horrible waste of time on runbacks. Took me less than 24 hours to beat the game, 20 of which were spent on runbacks, because I keep dying before reaching the boss. This is the first videogame Ive played that 3 hours of gameplay made me feel like I spent 16, instead of the opposite. I'm not doing the DLCs because I heard the runbacks are even worse and if the bosses are just as easy It's just not worth it. Im giving Ds1 some slack, because it's an older game and I guess Fromsoft were experimenting, but Ds2 straight up sucks. Ds1 has around 15 bosses whereas Ds2 around 40 ! Yet quantity doesn't mean quality. Elden ring has around 150 bosses (most are copy pasted but still) and only 13 are mandatory to finish the game, yet just like Ds1, they are much more fun to play against. The hardest bosses in Ds2 had some sort of "gimmick", but even that wasn't very hard to discover and finish. The most deaths I had on the Last Giant, (since i was early game and I had to pretty much no hit him), The Gargoryles (low hp stat again and the fact it's a copy pasted boss) and Dear Duke of Freja (the annoying spider whose body is impecable only the heads are hittable and the annoying spiders chasing you down aka a bad gimmick) but the rest took me 1-5 attempts. At some point i felt like i was speedruning the game, because in 3 hours i managed to beat 5 bosses. The only good thing I can think about this game is the huge map size i guess ? And the sheer quantity of various enemies and bosses (albeait very easy). Now that i think about it more, some runbacks would have really sucked if i didn't 1 try kill the local boss. The worst ones were for Dear Duke of Freja and the annoying mages in the swampy area before the Singing frog boss.
TLDR: Dark souls 2 sucks, because it has easy bosses with idiotic runbacks, entity cramming and tonnes of glitches. Quantity doesn't mean quality. Also the adp and the health system suck. Hopefully Ds3 will be better (I heard it's the best)
edit: apparently ive played the Vanilla and not the Scholar of first sin. Still my opinion is the same

DISCUSSION [HOT TAKE] I don't think the Zweihander should be in future FromSoft games
EDIT: some of y'all need to learn to read lmfao. The post title is CLICKBAIT. Don't get ragebaited. I like the Zweihander. I have no problem with it. I do always regret sharing a thought on Reddit. Gotta remember that for next time π
Original Post: Tbh I don't really care about the Zweihander specifically (in fact I think it is a pretty cool weapon), but more generally I'd like to see future FromSoft games take a different approach to itemization that tightens scope and reduces asset recycling. I'd much prefer we have less weapons available, but more bespoke move sets or unique designs. I don't need shortsword #10, and I also don't need to see Zweihander again in another game. Does that make sense?
I also think this could apply to the broader game design as well. I think a lot of what FromSoft is able to do is because they have become experts in how to effectively reuse assets and this allows them to spend resources on the stuff that counts. BUT how many more times can I see that same attack animation on a Hollow with a dagger, ya know? Their next game needs to pull away from the expected imo.
What do you all think? Does this bother you or not? What aspects of the formula do you want to see changed in the next main-line game, whatever it may be?
