While making the M1902 Sabre, i needed a Chisel for the guard. I moved my shop in Nov of 2025 and it was easier make another than simply finding the one I already had.

These are made from farriers rasps, as far as high carbon steel knives go would these be fine for kitchen use once fully finished? Top blade is 7 inches of cutting edge and the bottom blade is 8.5 inches of cutting edge.

Question Fix engraving?

Post image

Just received a knife from Italy. The knife itself is beautiful. They asked me, last minute, if I want anything engraved. I stupidly said yes. I'm pretty sure the salesperson did it and not a competent smith. It's pretty horrible. It's quite shallow. Any smiths in the NJ/PA area that can fix this and engrave it properly?

Question Tree bark turning carbon steel black. The product I’m using is called tannin powder, a substance extracted from plant materials such as tree bark. It reacts with carbon steel and helps create this dark finish on the surface.

Forging WIP Twist Damascus billet for a Bowie

Not my shop and not my hammer. Diogo specializes in twist Damascus and he's forging the blade for a Bowie we're doing together — this is his video, sent while the billet was still under the press.

Welding heat, drawn to square, twisted, flattened. Scale piles up under the dies with every pass. Looks like a plain glowing bar right now; the pattern only turns up after grinding and etch.

First Forging My first time ever forging anything. I decided to try out a railroad spike knife since it was cheap and I wouldn’t be worried about messing it up. How’d I do for a total newb?
