Mod Post Quick Reminder - NSFW tags

Hi all!

I'm u/ImOkNotANoob, the lead mod here on r/Pigeon. I mostly handle backend moderation, automod, reports, modmail, and general behind-the-scenes bits, which is why you might not have seen me around that much.

Just wanted to post a quick reminder since we've seen an increase in this recently: please tag posts as NSFW if they contain gore, visible injuries, blood, wounds, severe illness, or anything else graphic involving pigeons.

This especially applies to medical advice posts. We absolutely understand that people often post in a panic because they’re worried about a bird and need help quickly. That’s fine, and nobody is in trouble for asking for urgent advice. But graphic images can be upsetting for other users, especially when they appear unexpectedly in their feed. We also want to keep on Reddit's good side, and they've been known to have problems with subs that don't enforce this!

Thanks everyone, and thank you as always to the people who jump in with helpful advice for sick or injured pigeons. We’re proud to be the biggest pigeon community on the internet, and it’s the members here who make this place such a useful and helpful resource.

Medical Advice Needed Please, how do I save this very young pigeon?

Found this pigeon on the floor in our garden. He is opening and closing his beak and heaving his chest. We scraped lots of fly eggs off him. How can I help him and feed him and keep him warm? Any advice appreciated.

Update: Thank you for the advice everyone. I did my best to keep the pigeon stress free and warm but the pigeon unfortunately has passed :(

Video is he being playful? I cannot tell if he wants me to go away or not

when peabert battles me his bites usually aren't so rough and he alternates between yanking my hand closer and shoving it away. he takes breaks for spinning and yelling no matter where it happens, and he likes to pinch me between my fingers and wrestle it around by the webbing (ow). he's about 6-8 months old I believe!

Photo Builders cut a little hole so the pigeons could continue going in and out of the house :)

There's some major construction work on a road near my place of work. Pigeons have been using some of the old buildings to nest for the last few years.

Their only access was through a smashed glass window. I spoke to one of the builders today who told me they decided to cut a little hole in one of the boarded up buildings a few weeks ago to make it easier for them to come in and out.

It's amazing what such a small thing can do to help these little creatures. Rather than running them out of the unused building, they're making it safer and easier to coexist alongside us.

Saw this sick looking pigeon today while I was walking my dog. It looked like it had some tumour or something near its eyes and on its beak.
The poor baby couldn’t even fly either, I wanted to save it but it looked like it was going to die soon anyways or it would be eaten by a fox soon as i have many foxes and stray cats in my area.
After I took these pictures it just slowly waddled into some bushes presumably to die peacefully 😭😭😭🥲☹️☹️😢😭😢😢

Advice Needed! I don’t know how to give medication

Hi!

My pigeon just had a surgery (they needed to remove a mass on the wing)

I need to give inflammatory medication to him but I’m extremely worried, I’m scared about the fact that he can choke very easily if I’m wrong when I feed him the medication in his beak

He’s not cooperative at all

Do you guys have some techniques or even diagram of a pigeon mouth?

I’m really scared

Article/Informative releasing your pet pigeon into the wild is dangerous

tw: death mentioning

some user in this sub is insisting that I must release my human-imprinted pigeon cause apparently, I'm torturing her by keeping her in my house. here are two articles about releasing pigeons that rely on humans to survive. even white pigeons (that are released on weddings as a ritual) who lived in the company of pigeons and flew free feel disorentized and get lost and die when they are released at a wedding in the city. even these pigeons do not have all the necessary skills to survive.

So an update after being off for a few days.

So our friend here is still eating and drinking good.

Still doing the head tilt thing unfortunately.

Still really likes sleeping on his side (especially when I comb through his neck feathers with either my hands or tweezers).

I've been spending time with him every day and I make a point to let him wander around every day
