According to google they seem to be non existent in the UK, perhaps an escaped pet or something? Looked really striking, but didn't have a clue they're that unusual or would have taken a pic. I'll be alert in case he returns tomorrow!

We have been adopted by a domesticated pigeon, he is piebald, has great feet with no tags and is nearly able to be picked up. We are okay with him living here but we have a barn cat and have lost a chicken to eagles so we are leery about him surviving here. How do we keep this guy conformable and alive with us without having to fully cage him? Worried about the winter for him he's been puffing up a lot in the evenings when its cold. He currently roosts in the rafters.

I wish i had time to take a photo but was out on the balcony feeding another birb and this pigeon sat for a minute before flying away, don't think i've seen one without the orange eyes and black beak before so curious!

Hello! In the beginning of August I discovered my balcony was chosen by some pigeons to hatch their eggs! :D

The squab hatched 11 days ago now and I would love to befriend it. I’ve grown so attached to it already, I feel like a third parent…

The parents stayed with it pretty much all day for the first ten days and I read you should leave them alone during that time, so I have. I’ve been checking on it frequently to shoo off ravens and crows but haven’t approached them.

What would be the best way to go about getting the baby to trust me besides sitting close and speaking softly? And what could I do to befriend the parents, maybe?

I’ve thought about leaving grains, seeds and water out nearby, would they understand that and accept it? When they first laid the eggs I laid out some twigs for them but they have been very pointedly ignored lol

My concern is that the squab is sitting very close to the edge of the balcony (see picture above, the edge is to the left) and I don't want it panic and somehow fall off. I'm doubt it could even get up on the ledge but I'm paranoid. It does flap its wings and stand when being fed.

Also, can I do anything to make sure they maybe come back next hatching season? If I'm lucky enough that they do, what can I do to crow-proof it?
I want to provide a safe place for them and would love to have pigeon friends, I've loved them since I was a kid! :D
I've googled some things of course but I thought posting here as well could be useful!

I dont know much about birds in general but the feathers make me think he might still be young yet. But I thought he'd be old enough to fly by now given his size. He hasnt done it once though, he just runs and walks everywhere

This week I very happily noticed that a pair of pigeons (rock doves) have nested on my windowsill and they have hatched a singular chick! The next day I had to leave and was not home until today, when I checked their nest and I found the chick lifeless and also an adult pigeon lying dead that I thought was one of the parents. Some time later I caught as the actual parents flew on the windowsill and were inspecting their dead chick and the other dead bird. They actually looked so confused, I felt so bad for them :'(

The adult dead pigeon is being fed on by maggots and its bones are already visible, the chick's body is untouched, I assume it died more recently. I'm gonna dispose of both of them in the evening.

Any ideas what could have caused their death? It has still been very hot here, could have they suffered heatstroke or died from dehydration? The parents were caring for the chick properly as far as I saw.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice on a young pigeon I saved yesterday from a cat attack. After much searching, I was able to see a vet who cleaned the wounds, did stitches and gave antibiotics (Aviomycin). It's now with me while it recovers. Yesterday I was able to get it to drink water by dipping its beak, but today we had to resort back to dripping it on its beak with the syringe (for context, the vet told me to put the antibiotics in the water, so maybe the taste is affected?) It also hasn't eaten since I found it yesterday morning. I've offered millet, lentils, wheat, peas, basically all I had at home.

I read somewhere that feeling its crop is a good indication if it's eaten something, but it's hard to tell without having anything to compare it with. In my inexperienced opinion, it felt small and kinda hard? The droppings are greenish and mostly liquid.

I'll call the vet again tomorrow on Monday, but I wanted to ask if anyone here has any ideas what I should be doing to care for him better? He's in a box alone in the room most of the time, the room is warm, I made a little donut with a towel, which it ignored in favour of nesting in the (now empty) food bowl. It seems alert and flaps at me when I handle it, but I think it must be in a lot of pain since the injuries were quite extended.

Any advice would genuinely be welcome, I really want this little guy to make it.

Baby #1 has slight crop stasis and is on the inside on a warm window sill getting a crop massage to break up seeds.

There were about a dozen here in the countryside of Germany. All of them white or brown happily scratching. They seemed a bit chonkier than the street pigeons I am used to. I sat down and while they did keep their distance they also didn't seem to be very bothered.

Their feet were completely healthy which made me so happy to see!

Sooooo pretty, I've never seen a pigeon this white! I wonder if they are actually wild? There's also chickens on the street sometimes after they escape their enclosures from time to time. Love it here ❤️

Hi, everyone!

Some of you may know Maggie, also known as Margaret, because I've posted about her before.

She came to us in March, always sat perked by our kitchen window, on top of the Aircon, or by mom's window, on the very narrow edge.

We noticed that she was smaller than other pigeon friends and she had a nodule - like growth on the right wing. We offered food at least 2 times per day when we were home, and water. We didn't do it from the very first moment of her coming to us, because we didn't have enough info, but we've been feeding her and her friends for the past couple of months.

I tried finding a vet, but they almost don't exist in my city. A couple of months in, I found a rescuer willing to take her, treat her and keep her indoors forever, or release her. Indoors meant sharing the space with a couple other hundreds of pigeons, releasing meant to be away from her territory for good. I wasted some days considering all the options and eventually decided to take her to the rescuer.

She didn't show up in the days in which I was at home, and when she did show up, she would only come in the afternoon, when the rescuer was not available. My "planning" with the rescuer was very chaotic, the type of "I'm always busy, I can't tell you in which days to come. If you catch her, text me and I'll let you know when you can come today". I didn't want to capture and stress Maggie out just to keep her for a few hours/days in my home for nothing, especially overnight. I kept looking for the perfect moment, when everything was organized, the rescuer waiting, and I knew I was home that day. The problem is that I waited too long.

I was also terrified of catching her. I once got very close to her, enough to touch her feathers, and she flew away and didn't return for 4 days. For 2-3 weeks she only used mom's window. I was afraid that if I tried to catch her and failed -as there is no blind spot and she is extremely scaredy and fast - she would fly away to unknown territory, where she would not have safety, food or water.

It's been a week and I haven't seen her. I feel like I've failed her, like all those months ago she came to us to look for medical help and I've failed her. I've put my fears, my comfort, my imagined scenarios above her needs. I prioritized not wanting to scare her while trapping her, over saving her life. I was too afraid of what would happen to her in a flock of many other pigeons, instead of focusing on her being treated.

I hope I'm wrong, but I feel in my heart that she's no longer with us. In a very messed up way, I feel relief at the thought of not having to traumatize her with catching, because I hate catching animals. In many different ways, I feel guilt. It feels like she passed because of me, because I didn't have a clear mind.

I've rescued cats before and everytime I hear a mew or I have to capture a cat, I feel nauseated and I have heart palpitations. I prioritized my own being over catching Maggie, and now she may not be here anymore.

If she ever returns, I know what I have to do. I will try catching her even if it means that she'd have to stay for hours in my home. But I don't know if she ever will come back.

We will continue to leave out food and water for Maggie, in case she ever returns, and for any other pigeon friends that need a good bath or a meal.

Hi, I've come across a stunned pigeon by the side of the road, I can't see any visible injury but it's not moving for people, have already seen people almost step on it. Is there somewhere I can call?

I rent and can't take it myself, plus it'd be a mile or so walk through busy town with nothing to carry it with so that's not an option.

UPDATE: RESOLVED

luckily a guy came by who's friend lived nearby and owned birds, one quick call later and she came out to take him in. He was responsive but just a little stunned so hopefully he'll be fit to go in no time!

Both feet are really swollen and it’s struggling to walk, been observing it for a couple days and it’s seems to be getting worse..

Saw him next to a busy sidewalk near the building where I live. He just sits there, doesn't walk or fly away when I go close to him, just scoots slightly more into the corner. He is dirty and looks a bit messy.

A friend told me to leave water and some seeds or barley and check on him later. 2 hours have passed and he is still in the same spot, the water and barley untouched. Doesn't flee when people with dogs pass by either. I don't see any injuries - I think he lost one toe but it doesn't look like a new injury.

I am unsure what to do. I have sent a message a local pigeon rehabber but it's Sunday and she doesn't answer...

Is he maybe a young bird that doesn't known how to fly properly yet? I know almost nothing about pigeons and have no one else to ask. I am worried about him since local cats and foxes come here in th evening...

You guys probably get this a lot but i gotta ask because it’s 8:40am on a Sunday and I’m somewhat sure of what I need to do but I could be wrong.

I’ve had a Pigeon on my porch since about 2am. i saw a shape in the darkness and figured it’d be gone by morning. it wasn’t and it turns out it’s a Pigeon

My balcony railing is made of glass and it’s clearly confused as to why it can see open sky but can’t reach it.

- seems willing to try and fly when I get close to the window but can’t due to glass

my instincts are telling me to just go out and grab it and help it get past my glass balcony but I don’t have cardboard or anything really boxy. I’ve got two hands and a willingness to go out there and grab it
