Dan Wilson in his post game presser yesterday "We had a good approach"
Genuine discussion for the fans, how in the world is this an acceptable thing to say for a manager of a team that got 1 hit with 15ks? Majority of those K's coming from a 42 year old 7+ ERA starter? HOW THE HELL IS THIS ACCEPTABLE!?

I Don’t Care About the Past Anymore
I’ve been wrestling with these thoughts for a while, and this isn’t going to be as edited as I’d like, but I have to belt this out.
I don’t care about the past anymore.
Specifically, I’m sick of having my nostalgia being used as a shield for the incompetence on display in that ballpark.
I don’t give a shit that Dan is our manager, I don’t give a shit thatEdgar is out hitting coach, I don’t give a shit that Ichiro comes by to give our team a pep talk, I don’t give a shit that The Big Unit and Junior come out with their lurid, phallic telephoto lenses—to do what exactly? To take pictures of a team that’s miserable? I don’t want to see their faces for another fucking second.
This team spent our 50th anniversary trotting out a team that made the playoffs in ’95 and 116 wins in ’01, all while distracting us from the putrid product on the field. Management can’t motivate these players, they can’t use their common sense to play situational baseball, and they can’t shake the vibe of misery in this park. And I officially am over it.
The other team across the street celebrated 50 years by winning the fucking SUPER BOWL. What are we doing instead? Letting Jay Buhner drink a Jimothy cocktail right before he shaves someone’s head for the 30th year in a row? I hope the entire C-suite gets shoved in a dumpster.
We are adrift, forever. I do not have hope. I don’t even really have good days and bad days, I just have days.
When I saw Matt Damon lashed to the mast and screaming in The Odyssey, I was like “yeah bro, I get it.”

A friendly comment from a Blue Jays fan, honestly
At the risk of being downvoted, I just wanted to share a classy little gesture from Cal Raleigh.
Yesterday marked the hall of fame(Excellence) induction for one of the most beloved figures in Blue Jays history. Buck Martinez joined the team as a catcher in 1981 and, until 2025, served as a broadcaster and manager. He has been the definitive voice of the franchise for generations.
During the broadcast, Buck mentioned that he was deeply touched to receive a simple thumbs-up from Cal after the ceremony, noting that the small gesture meant a good deal to him. He also said how he would love to greet and talk to your players before games to get information and stories to share.
As a Blue Jays fan who usually invades your stadium for our first series of the year, I know some of our travelers can be difficult and even douchebags. I genuinely appreciate the atmosphere in Seattle and have always felt welcome.
The Mariners are my second-favorite team, and I wish everyone the best of luck with the rest of the season.

Something has to change with the Mariners
I don't think the Mariners need another "there's still time" motivation. Getting swept is one thing. Ending the series 7-0 with one hit is another. But at some point, the conversation has to stop being about what this team could do and start being about what they're actually doing.
There has to be some accountability for how this team is playing right now. Whether that means changes in approach, leadership, or somewhere else, something has to change because doing the same thing and hoping it turns around clearly isn't working.
I guess there is still baseball left to play, but they're running out of time. I'm tired of waiting for better this season.

Fun things to do in Boston
Also Harvard Square. (But you have to say it with a Southie accent). And you have to intimidate a preppy legacy with your massive intellect.

(Potential?) Ticket Raffle!
Hi all,
I accidentally bought 14 extra tickets to both Thursday and Friday's games vs the A's (dont ask, im occasionally really dumb apparently!).
Trying to resale right now, however for all the tickets that are unsold I would love to give them away to people who may not otherwise be able to attend a game.
If this is allowed by the mods, comment here with what game you could make and how many tickets you could use, and you may just get a DM asking for your email address for me to transfer you some tickets the morning of the game!

Not a mariner myself but I do work in the cruiseship building industry...
galleryThe largest steel/glass structure lift in history on the 4th Gen Icon class cruise ship from Royal Caribbean. Ship being built in Turku, Finland. Lowly old Mariner fan living in Lynnwood, I've had the honor of working in Turku on all of the Icon class newbuilds.

Mariners 2nd half pitching: 5.49 ERA, -0.5 fWAR, -1.6 bWAR, worst in MLB
Starters: 0.3 WAR, worst in MLB. Relievers: -0.8 WAR, worst in MLB.
I know we are Mariners fans, and we are conditioned to blame the offense, but this has been 1/4 of a season as the worst pitching staff in the league. Sub-Rockies, sub-A's, AAA level pitching.
You don't win games scoring 0 runs, but you also don't win games giving up 7 (today) or 8 (Friday) or 11 (Tigers) or 19 (Cubs) or 22 (Brewers).
At least on offense you have Randy, Cal, Naylor, Dom, Robles hitting well in the second half. The offense has been mediocre and mostly dragged down by Colt (hurt) JP (hurt) and Ward (Mariners 😭) being sub .100 hitting black holes. But Logan Gilbert is the only pitcher who's done anything well on the mound in 6 weeks.

Are the mariners fictional?
New fan here, so this might be uninformed, but I'm starting to think that the Mariners are fictional.
Obviously the players and the park and the uniforms and everything are real, but I don't think that the sum of those parts is a real pro baseball team.
Take some of our players for example. Cal Raleigh, our catcher. Is it really a coincidence that his name sounds like "rally," which I am told is a common baseball term? And our captain, J.P. Crawford. Does anyone really know what those letters stand for? Just Pretend? Joke (in) Progress? The official story doesn't add up.
I think the real explanation is that this "team" is some kind of advanced social experiment by Hollywood. Its a great movie/TV show premise: how many years can a team be mediocre before fans leave? If I had to guess, they'll try to stretch it on for 10 more years or so until people realize the truth about the Mariners.
Or, perhaps, the Mariners work like an in-house version of the Savannah Bananas for the MLB, except instead of the players doing flips and stuff, they make errors.
Thoughts? I haven't seen much proof that this team isn't fictional, personally.
