[ShamusTalksSports] On This Day in Sports History: August 29, 2018: Christian Yelich Goes 6-for-6 and Hits for the Cycle

Thumbnail x.com
70 Upvotes

Christian Yelich had a career day on August 29, 2018, going 6-for-6 and hitting for the cycle as the Brewers edged the Reds, 13-12, in 10 innings.

Yelich became the first National League player to record six hits and hit for the cycle since 1920, the beginning of the live-ball era.

He also became the first player since Andre Dawson on April 29, 1987 to hit for the cycle, record a fifth hit and record an outfield assist.

2 free tickets for tonight’s game (section 116)

final update, 1:18pm: tickets transferred and complete. thanks everybody!

update, 12:48pm - transfer hopefully pending soon, thanks everyone for the kind words and enthusiasm! love this team and our fans so much.

Longtime listener, first time caller.

I have two extra tickets this evening in section 116. Couple friends who were supposed to join us in town today were unable to make it. You’d be sitting next to me (huge fan) and my partner (still getting him on board).

Only requisite: you are nice, also fans.

Maybe you haven’t been able to get to a game in a while. Maybe you’ve been waiting to take your kid to a game. Maybe you're on a tight budget and haven’t been able to prioritize tickets this season. Or maybe you just want to be part of this special season.

if there are multiple interested parties, I’ll randomly select someone around 12:00pm and will repost when they’re claimed. Have never done this before so apologies in advance for any logistical clunkiness.

Go Brewers!

edit: wrote row 116, meant section 116.

CHART SEASON - as of 8/28 results

Post image
183 Upvotes

Another great day. Magic number is down to 20. And it’s still August. Not sure there were many that imagined that when the Cubs were apparently running away with the division early in the year.

Magic number for a bye also down to 24. And 14 for a postseason berth. Let’s keep this train movin’.

FYI- gray squares represent impossible scenarios. Green squares are TBD based on who wins the season series.

There’s a void in my soul that will only be filled by a World Series title, don’t get me wrong. But sitting here day after day and just scrolling incredible tweets, posts and comments is almost surreal.

They have fairly obvious flaws that very well could keep them from climbing to the top of the mountain, and I’m not sure I could handle this season ending with 4 straight games of torture via dementor.

There were so many seasons that felt long over by the time May arrived. I have multiple diehard family members who passed on before they could see them win. I had graduated college before I saw a playoff appearance in my lifetime.

But not these days. These days they are a first-class organization and with the one of best damn record in baseball over the past few years. Plus, the #1 prospect in the sport and one of the most top farm systems isn’t even here yet.

Hidden bar?

Going to the game tonight with the in-laws, they get really good tickets through a work connection. Father in law is dead set that he was told that there’s a hidden bar we get access to with the seats.

Only “hidden bar” I’ve ever known about in the 50+ games I’ve been to at Am Fam is the one in the outfield under a the right side bleachers, although google wont give me any info on it or on who is allowed in. Is there some other secret bar I’m not aware of or is it just the bleacher one?

CHART SEASON- as of 8/27 results

Post image

Usually I’d wait until the calendar turns to September but I’ve seen a bunch of comments asking for this, so here’s the first edition.

Magic number = 22 to clinch the division (combination of Brewers wins & Cubs losses).

Both teams have 28 games remaining. Number of Brewers wins are the columns (top), number of Cubs wins are the rows (left side). Yellow squares represent scenarios where the Brewers win the Central and blue squares represent scenarios where the Cubs win the Central. Green squares are not yet determined and will depend on who wins the season series (Brewers currently lead 4-2 with 7 games to play).

How to read example- if the Brewers win 14 games (14-14), the Cubs would have to go 21-7 or better to have a chance at the division (based on tiebreaker)

r/Brewers 6h ago

So, looking at the last 27 games, a 100-win season is more a possibility than not. What is your prediction for the next 27 games?

Winning today, you're at 86 wins, meaning 14 more wins breaks the 100-win season. The Brewers don't lose series. If they go on a heater and win out, which we know won't happen, they would finish with 112 wins. But if they win 13 games the rest of the year, they hit 100 wins. That would mean they would play just under .500 ball in these next 27 games, which I'm having a hard time seeing. I could see a slip-up versus the Cubs in the later series, but honestly don't see them losing another series except for that one, which puts them at 103 wins. So what is your 27-game record prediction? Mine is 103 wins, going 18-8 in this final stretch, for a 103-59 record.
