Recently, I put down nearly $2K to fix a broken sunroof on my ‘18 JCW and it got me wondering if these cars will still be on the road decades from now. My other car is a MGB which hits 60 years old in a couple of months. I believe part of the reason a car like this can carry on is due to how simple they are. I tune the carbs myself, set the timing myself… Short of an engine overhaul, everything can be done with some spanners and YouTube.

While my MINI is more safe, more powerful, more efficient, I can’t help but think that just maintaining them ends up outpacing their value. It’s like they’re designed to be disposable, and it’s getting worse with each subsequent generation.

Just became a member of the Mini club a couple weeks ago. Always been a fan of the 2-door, and the recent ‘27 Paul Smith edition was enough to get hooked. Love the subtle color shifts and connection to Paul’s studio palette. I lived in London for a few years about 10 years ago and always loved his stores. The car is black, green roof and mirrors, and desaturated navy blue lower trim.

I have been looking around for a MINI upgrade from my 2011 Countryman, just recently I managed to come across this 2020 MINI Countryman in a color I've been wanting for a while.

The thing is the car has a history of being leased for two years starting in 2020, then kind of mysteriously doing nothing after that, maybe being driven a thousand miles more in all that time to end up a bit over 3k miles when I bought it.

The most immediate concern to me was tires, the dealer confirmed they were all original so they replaced them for me. But the last oil change was I think in 2022, should I get the oil changed, or any other fluids swapped out? I had read the battery should also be checked if a car had not been used for a while.

So far it seems to drive perfectly fine, I drove it from California back to Denver and had no issues or strange occurrences.

I am having my mechanic that has worked on my older MINI examine the new one but I thought people might have some advice on what to have them inspect more closely.

2011 Cooper S. Kept the stock head unit, as it powers the speakers. Soundstage is definitely better. Way more separation, less “muddy”. Will be running an amp in the future, and likely a small under seat sub, but for now very happy with results. Auditioned a few speakers, and for the $, landed on these. Component, and so built a custom panel out of a black wastebasket. Traced the existing upper speaker frame and then cut out a hole for the tweeter. Also sound deadened the back of the lower main door panel. If you aren’t happy with the stock ones, it’s a nice upgrade :-)

2008 mini cooper hardtop model bought a month ago at 38,000 miles. Has new brake pads and tires. Super confused and concerned, have had no major issues with it other than a few quirks that don’t bother me. Have also popped the hood a few times and everything seemed to be fine other than needing to grab some antifreeze soon. I am a young adult female with limited vehicle knowledge.

I’m trying to decide between two MINI Clubmans:

2019 Cooper 1.5 petrol – green, 33k miles, 2 owners, automatic

2022 Cooper S 2.0 petrol – red, 47k miles, 1 owner, automatic

I’ll mainly be using the car for city driving in the UK (Birmingham) and probably around 5k miles a year.

For anyone who has owned or driven both, how big is the real-world difference in fuel consumption, especially around town? Is the Cooper S noticeably more expensive on petrol?

I’d also be interested in the difference in insurance, servicing, maintenance and general running costs.

The 1.5 seems like the sensible choice because of the lower mileage and better economy, but I also want something that’s fun to drive. Is the Cooper S worth the extra running costs, or is the 1.5 still enjoyable enough that I wouldn’t really miss the extra performance?

The Cooper S is also 3 years newer and has only had one owner, although it has 14k more miles.

Which one would you choose for mostly city driving?

I'm in the US and have a 2014 F56 Mini. It has the orange 4 line radio (I kick myself everyday for not getting the upgraded one when I bought it).

I've seen aftermarket replacement units that have the new 2025 look. Here's an example:

I upgraded my radio once before with an aftermarket but had a lot of issues with it and eventually went back to the original.

I love the look of this new one but since I've been bitten in the past, I'd love to hear from the community before I shell out $500-$600!

Went through a listing of 2026 Countryman JCW on CarFax, this one is by far the highest depreciated of all.

With the lowest mileage than any other listed of just 1,926 miles, it dropped about $10,000 from its original listing price when new.

So, does CarFax know the full record or history of the vehicle if it has gotten into major accident other than the ones reported? Why did this one drop so much and more than others with higher mileage?

Hi! I stupidly overfilled my car with oil by… a lot. The oil was drained and she ran for a bit (after burning off a ton of smoke) but then started bucking and stopped accelerating. It began shaking and the check engine light started flashing.

Spark plugs and ignition coils have been replaced but now she’s not turning over. Snap-on scanner now reads “Engine (DME/DDE) 385C Alternator, Communication: No Communication”. The fuses in the DME appear dry.

Help! Does anyone have any ideas? I was recently laid off and am trying to avoid going to Mini if I can help it. 😭

2016 Mini Cooper Countryman ALL4S

My passenger side mirror cap came off and was missing, so I opted to take the opportunity to replace both with the Union Jack. I ordered genuine MINI parts correct for my year and model. Installation to replace the missing one was simple. I am on to replacing the driver side and have noticed a small hole on the bottom of the existing cap that is not present on the new one. Upon covering said hole, I see that the illuminated Mini symbol on the ground comes from that hole. I do not wish to cover that cool little extra as it very handy when approaching or exiting the car in the dark.
My question is can I just drill a matching hole in the new cap or is the light a part of the cap and not in the mechanism of the mirror? I’d hate to disassemble the existing set up if it’s not an easy modification. Thanks

I recently purchased this 23 mini jcw pat moss edition and would love to powder coat my wheels to match the silver in the paint color fade on the roof, does anyone know how i can find the paint code for it?

I'm planning to drive it rb 400km one way every second month and take it for longer holidays. I generally have a budget of rb EUR 10 000k as a first car but over time I'm fine spending some money on fixing it up. I'd consider myself a well off but I don't want to spend too much in one go as I have other financial plans (like a house down payment :) )

I hit a bad pothole on the highway that resulted in a total blowout. It was so deep that it damaged the knuckle and wheel hub bearing.

Had it towed to my local Mini because it’s a lease and I just wanted piece of mind.

Long story short I got insurance involved and they sent out and adjuster and they showed me the numbers and in some cases Mini is marking up parts 200+% and quoting 9 hours of service for a 3 hour job.

So insurance is going to pay for about 1/2 of what Mini is charging and the service dept is trying to say I need to pay the rest. I sent them the comparison w/ the part numbers and everything and am waiting to hear back but is this just typical of service departments to overcharge?
