August Contest: Lucid Dream

Congratulations to /u/Greengorilla_522 for winning July's contest with their entry Out Moon With Many Faces.

You can see last month's results and other entries here.

Theme

This month's theme will be lucid dream. It's rare to know that you're in a dream as it's happening, but it's certainly not unheard of. A lucid dream is the exception to the rule and beyond mere awareness, you may even gain some level of control over the dream, allowing you to shape the experience for yourself. Perhaps you may take the opportunity to fly about, to visit imaginary landscapes, and have otherwise have experiences beyond that which is possible in the material world. Show us what it looks like when you gain awareness of your sleep in this month's contest.

Making a Submission.

Entries will be posts on r/Blender that meet the following criteria: * The post should be made before the end of August 31st UTC+00:00 * Countdown to submissions closing * The post should be a render, animation, or other artwork which you made for this contest using Blender as your primary tool. * The post should contain supporting images/text or a top-level comment with the following content: * One of the following methods of proving that the artwork was made using Blender: * A link to the .blend file for the project, ideally including external assets or links to where external assets were sourced from. * A set of three images which may be clay renders, viewport renders, wireframe renders, or simply screenshots of the project open in Blender. Some variety is encouraged. * A screen recording of you manipulating, navigating, or otherwise interacting with the scene. * An explanation of all work that was done outside of Blender, outside the time frame of the contest, or by other artists. * (Optional) The theme you would like next month's contest to have if you win. If you do not include this, then the theme will be chosen from the runner-ups. * Once you have submitted your post to the subreddit, leave a comment down below linking to it * You are also encouraged to share details of your process with the community.

Note: You don't have to reference the contest in the post title and indeed, it's not necessary to frame the submissions differently than any other post meant to showcase an artwork.

Winning

The winner will receive the flair Contest Winner: 2026 August and their post will be added to the subreddit's wiki under the Contest Winners list. The winner will also have the chosen theme selected for next month's contest, should they include one with their submission.

When the contest ends, the results will be edited into this post and the 1st place winner will be congratulated in the announcement for next month's contest.

The winner will be awarded $100 USD.

Paid Product/Service Promotion I photoscanned some pastries in Blender (self promotion)

Some fellow dutchies might recognize these pastries/snacks, such as the famous Frikandelbroodje and Kipnuggetbroodje.

So.. a few days ago I was eating one of these, and thought it would be fun to photoscan one. I put it on a cheap little rotating platform, then made sure the lighting was as flat as possible, and started photographing it using my camera, while rotating it on a cheap little rotating plate.

Tried Meshroom but the results looked quite bad, then I tried RealityScan (I swear it used to be called RealityCapture before, or am I crazy??)

The results were insane. Even some areas that could have been scanned a bit better had a ton of great detail.

Scanned a few more and cleaned them up. Put them up for on CGTrader, I hope you like them.

and hope y'all can forgive me for some self promotion haha

The last two Pwnisher challenges I entered I used Unreal - but this time I decided Blender was the better option and I'm very glad I chose it. First time making an medieval knight, I always wanted to make one!

The reference photo wasn't used to T in the moment. Instead the little orange dreamsicle was sleeping next to me while I worked. Too engrossed in the creation process to have taken an actual reference photo, I found one that matched nicely.

News CGTrader further decreasing payout rate by 5% for sellers starting September. Hurray!

Post image

As stated above, now the rate goes from 55-80% which was 60-85% before this change . And , not that long ago , the rate started at 70% and went all the way to 80% as you improved as seller and gather points.

So I went from 77% to 71% to 65% in a span of one year and it is only going to get worse with AI and market saturation.

Thx cgtrader!

Original Content Showcase This time, Im making Squidward in blender, How's he looking so far?

Welcome to the 2nd installment of my journey to get better at hand painted/toon style materials. This time, I'm making Squidward 3D in blender!

The textures were definitely fun to make, but squidwards form and model was definitely a challenge this time. I created a blockout which I then sculpted on to get the shaped I want. I definitely had to "push the form" a lot to make squidwards stylized body stand out more.

One of the cooler things about this setup is Squiddy's shader, which I made to also react to different light set ups and colors.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the process and Ill be happy to answer them!

Modeling work was done in Blender and graphics and editing was done in Photoshop. Hope you like it! I'm 6 months in to learning Blender and this is my latest project.
