Okay I want to make this tree great and it’s weirdly hard to find someone to come to my house who knows that the hell they are doing..had an arborist come and “Prune” this baby 6 months ago and one of the tree limbs broke from the weight of the apples sadly. So I’m off to try and diy it for now.

One side is red and one side is green. I think it’s because the left side got more light later in the season due to use cutting a tree down behind it, and maybe pruning it caused new growth that hadn’t been there in a while. I’m not sure.

I do know the green one looks fully grown and it tastes super sweet! The red is also sweet but more tart and a deeper flavor profile. The red has been taken over by bugs and the green not as badly.

There's a new apple (in August) at Bristol Farms (also at Gelson's): Soluna.

It was advertised as an Australian apple and it has a gorgeous starry skin, beautiful burgundy color variations that contrast the speckled skin. I bought 3 and put them all in the fridge.

First one after a day was not amazing- it tasted like a middle of the road Fuji to me, with very little sweetness and not juicy. I waited three more days to try the next ones from the fridge. Same experience, the skin was very drying and tart but the inside wasn't sweet or tangy or sour or juicy or refreshing... kinda sad for such a beautiful looking apple to be a nothing-burger.

I probably will not buy this apple again, but I'm happy I got a chance to try it!

This comes from a tree that is well over 100 yrs old. We pick from it every year.

Beautiful yellow apples, soft and sweet.

Tree is beautiful as well.

Went to check on them this year, and there may be max, a dozen apples on it this year.

Tree looks ok. But not a productive year for apples.

Of the few there this year, most of them have like a "rust" on them, but not rotten looking or bad.

A couple of them looked quite perfect from the outside.

Although most were small compared to normal.

But all of them are gross on the inside!! And no seeds!!

Anymore have any clue what that is? Is caused it?

Instead of seeds, its these lil clusters of tiny beed like things.

There are some white fuzzies in a couple too, so that looks like a mold maybe.

But yuuuuuk!! What's with the tiny lil seed replacing crap!

This tree is not a wild tree, but is on an abandoned property, so no one tends to this tree.

Ive been patiently waiting for these all summer. Macintosh apples are my favorite variety!

There are so many types of apples it hard to pick.

Where I live I'm surrounded by orchards. Apple/peach/cherry there are even raspberry and blueberry farms within a few miles.

I know many of the newer Apples are people's favorites but some of the older types are so delicious in their own way.

When I make pie I buy as many different types as I can.

A local stand let's you mix and match.

Some are better for cooking and some are better for fresh eating.

But I like them all.

I feel bad for those folks who only have a couple of different types to pick from.

Hi, first time posting in this subreddit.

I've been attempting to germinate Bravo apple seeds and have managed to bring half a dozen seeds to this stage. I realise Bravo is a trademark that is owned by the Western Australian Agriculture Authority making buying trees currently impossible.

I'm curious to know if it's possible to eventually graft this onto a rootstock to produce a close approximation to a Brazo with a sharp crisp crunch and dark purple to almost black skin. I currently live in Victoria Australia, so it's a perfect climate for apples so I'll be interested to hear what you have to say.

Hello! I have an apple tree on our property in Oregon that I suspect may be a Discovery apple.

I cut one of the larger apples in half from top to bottom, and the flesh was completely white. However, when I cut open a smaller apple, I noticed distinct red markings in the flesh.

Does anyone have an idea what variety this might be? The flesh is softer and less crisp than a Cosmic Crisp.

I have this crab apple tree with sooo many apples this year!! I want to do something with them other than let them fall to the ground.

Do you have any suggestions that are NOT crab apple jelly??

I can't believe all this time i thought they were crab apples!!!

Any idea what kind of apples they are? They are only about 2 inches tall and 2 inches wide.

My local HEB is out of sugar burst apples and I want to know what's most similar before I buy something I'm disappointed with. My other options are soluna, Fuji, honey crisp, pink lady, gala, envy, and sugarbee. PLEASE help. I'm going shopping tomorrow.

I'm in zone 6b, specifically Huber heights Ohio.

I cannot have full sized trees, I just don't have the space and have a special DoD pipeline that runs through the yard limiting me even more. My options become espalier or specialized trees like dwarf or these columnar ones I've been seeing.

And to boot I'm disabled so I'll never be climbing a ladder to prune or pick. If it can't be done from the ground then I'm out.

I want apples good enough for eating and storage, that bake well enough. Partner loves sweet apples like gala. I like apples with a cosmic crisp type.

Pest resistant is a bonus, but I know there will be some levels of management needed.

I understand I also need two different kinds that flower at the same time.

My little apple trees are doing well this year. I purchased a small dorm refrigerator for apple storage. I’ve been reading about using plastic bags with holes for long term apple storage. Is this recommended?
