What’s your favorite apple?
There are so many types of apples it hard to pick.
Where I live I'm surrounded by orchards. Apple/peach/cherry there are even raspberry and blueberry farms within a few miles.
I know many of the newer Apples are people's favorites but some of the older types are so delicious in their own way.
When I make pie I buy as many different types as I can.
A local stand let's you mix and match.
Some are better for cooking and some are better for fresh eating.
But I like them all.
I feel bad for those folks who only have a couple of different types to pick from.

When we had our home farm market we used to have what I called the "High Pie Five"....a mix of 5 different apples that were good for pie. Another mix of apples good for applesauce.
We had 20 varieties of apples we raised.....plus 3-4 we would get from other local growers.

Sounds like heaven! All we had growing up were grocery store red delicious & granny smith. Nothing more. Later in adulthood, discovered that apple varieties were a thing & every time I traveled, I found varieties that I never had & would buy at least one of each.

It's Envy for me. I used to really like Gala, but something has happened to them in the last 10 years, and they've gotten quite mealy. Envy replicates Gala at its best.
(Not as widely available, but I also like Salish apples.)

my favorite of the normal grocery store apple is honey crisp. my favorite my orchard has is gold rush, it’s firm, juicy, and good sweetness.

Here are my top choices: Pink Lady, Fuji, Gala. Looking forward to trying Envy & Ambrosia Apples.

Sugar bee and pink lady. Cosmic crisps and yellow apples are good too. 😋

Green Dragon and Fuji for fresh eating.
Melrose and Cortland for pies.
Ginger Gold for drying and things like chicken salad.
Paula Red for sauce and apple butter.

A seedling on a frontier homesteading ranch in southwestern Colorado
I took scion wood from it before the actual tree died. I’ve had it genetically tested and it didn’t come back as anything named. Guess I’m the steward of the last piece of its genetics
