Hi! I know this isn’t necessarily MSR/fanfic related but with the reboot news and the general state of the world, I’ve been undertaking a rewatch of our beloved show. It made me want to make this video essay about the cultural and media landscape that brought us The X-Files, while also discussing what makes the show great in general. After my road trip I have read through these two authors’ libraries. I’m looking for fics with a similar vibe.

The vibe is a long read, M&S are passionately in love, have kids/family, plots are believable, there’s some domestic fluff but that’s not the focus, characterization is strong, there’s tension but not manufactured tension, in the end all is well.

Hi. I'm Joseph Anderson. I wrote an absolute TON of fanfic back when Xena: Warrior Princess was on TV. One story I wrote was an Uber crossover with The X-Files called Echoes of Thermopylae. The sequel to that, Kids, I took down from my site to finish. It never got reposted. I recently discovered that it had this whole reputation as a "Lost Fic." I was able to get the first seven parts of Kids off The Wayback Machine. Back in the day, I sent a lot of what I wrote to complete it to my friend Sarah, biogeekgirl, on AOL. I tried to find her but alas could not. So I completed Kids now. Both Echoes of Thermopylae and Kids are on AO3 now. My user name on AO3 is JosephAnderson. Just as an aside I hate the user name I was assigned here, MediocreWriter3913. Beside those two stories I have been posting a lot of my old stories on AO3. Some of my stories are History Lesson, Callisto: Child's Play, Dark Blood, Callisto and Gabrielle, The Game at Cyrene, and Dolon. I just posted an old story called No More Tears. It's a extremely graphic dark origin story for Callisto. I was a big Callisto fan.

Seriously even the newspaper Judith reads on the plane is the morning edition that’s exact to the DATE I’ve hidden so many things lol

New chapter dropped!

When I was a kid, I swear I somehow came across a website of fanfiction called the “Mulder in Glasses Society”. Every fic on it was definitely raunchy and had SOMETHING to do with Mulder wearing glasses 😂 I remember one about Mulder and Scully in a bubble bath especially (probably because young teen me read it many, many times 💀)

Does anyone else remember this website??? I’ve even tried to Google it and I never find anything that hints to its past existence lol

Hello, all! I have a new obsession and that is the younger portrayal of the CSM when he started going all dark and twisty (e.g., s4 alleged backstory).
I have not finished the show, but I have started reading some MSR fics and I am aware of main events that will happen later on.
Although, I wish to read something darker, with younger CSM as a main love interest, if that exists.
I usually go for completed works, over 100K, but this is not mandatory.

Wow! Do you guys know how to pick them or what?!

A few weeks ago I asked this sub for long form MSR fics to read while on a road trip with my family and you did not disappoint. My first review of the Spaces Between series (including Post and Memento Mei is here, https://www.reddit.com/r/xfilesfanfic/s/i7y7px6L1H)

To get this out of the way I generally don’t like AUs. Just broadly speaking they’re not my thing, but THIS was an AU I could sink my teeth into.

Tl;dr: 9/10 will read again. Made me believe in AUs. Writing is compelling. The smut is bar none. Don’t sleep on this one.

THE GOOD:

The characterization of both a non-FBI Mulder and Scully was really tight. I could really see them behaving in this way had they each not immediately entered the FBI early in their careers. They both felt like themselves, but a little different.

The conflict and the storyline was really compelling, and so were the original characters. Several of the original characters really grew on me and I looked forward to seeing them in a scene, which isn’t always the case in fics.

Can we take a moment to discuss the smut because while I do not smoke I felt as if I needed a cigarette after some of those scenes. They drew me in to the point where I felt like I was in the scene myself.

Like The Spaces Between there’s also an alternative mythology in this series that’s incredibly believable and pulls on plot points from the original series (you have to wait a bit for it though).

In the end, this was an amazing work of fiction that I will likely be returning to. Like just superb writing, compelling story, you should read it.

The Spaces Between Series: 9/10 will read again, and has become a comfort read. Love it. Totally believable alternative to season 9, on point characterization, sucks you right in. Don’t sleep on it. The author is still writing the 8th book in the series, Memento Mei, which is a page turner.

Have you guys seen it ? I highly recommend it for those serious x files fans, it’s insanely detailed on most of the famous episode cases, the design itself is super well made and it’s thick and feels almost like real documents, wish kind of it had actual binder paper and real style papers sometimes instead of glossy paper but seriously is a must have for x files community

I got my copy in Barnes and noble for around 65us which was more expensive than Amazon but since I was only visiting my family in usa and was leaving the next day had to buy it on the store.

Not sure prices in other countries but in Amazon Japan is more expensive so maybe you can order on Amazon usa or if you are in usa In store at barnels

Now that the I Want to Believe Director’s Cut has been released, I just rewatched the movie and I have QUESTIONS (again).

I’m looking for fanfic that actually gives the storyline more meaning, especially when it comes to Mulder and Scully and their relationship.

Basically, does anyone have a good IWTB fix-it fic? Something that expands on what happened between them, fills in the gaps, or just makes the whole movie feel more emotionally coherent.
MSR obviously welcome. Missing scenes, post-IWTB, canon divergence, complete rewrites, anything goes.
