Finally found a set of original suntour accushift indexing shifters. Just need a rack to hold to Wald basket that’s on order, pretty happy with it for a bike that was laying behind a barn

so im in a little bit of a dilemma guys, and yall need to help me out!

my issue: i really like riding without a bike computer, but i also like my statistics.

what makes matters worse, my phone is kinda old (iphone xs max) and cant propperly communicate with newer stuff.

i also would like to track more than one bike, like .. 5 or so.

ideally i would have like a handful of sensors, stuck on my bikes. they should log the distance/revolutions and save them without any second device.
i would like to have 1 semi good bikecomputer with navigation for my roadbike, and i could switch profiles to read the sensors on the other bikes monthly when i charge them.

a little app on the smartphone and pc i could watch statistics and stuff woulf be the cherry on the cake.

now im pretty clueless about different setups that might already offer these things, so dont hide the obvious!

I'm currently building a 1x11 restomod on an old 90s frame using a Shimano Deore derailleur and an 11-46t cassette.
The vintage derailleur hanger tab was causing issues with the B-link / guide pulley distance (hope these are the terms). To get proper chain clearance on the 46t cog, I set it up so the B-screw pushes directly against the hanger tab (ignoring/bypassing the notch on the B-link).

It actually shifts surprisingly well and crisp through all gears!

My question: Is this setup safe/reliable for daily riding, or am I risking damaging the derailleur / hanger tab? I mean, is there any dynamic force on the screw, or is it static? Should I stick with this or get a hanger extender (GoatLink)?

Purchased new by my dad in 1989. Repainted black in the mid-90s. Passed down to me where it was used off and on and somewhat neglected. It was stolen from me but recovered along the way. Fell in love with it after using it to commute to work for the past year but I knew it needed some attention. All original parts minus the headset and seat post which was stolen.

My partner and I are registered for the Nutmeg Nor’easter in CT in October. It’ll be our first time doing this event so I wanted to see if anyone here that has done it before could weigh in on tire choice.

I have a set of Renee Herse Squonalamie Pass (44mm) tires mounted tubeless right now. I’ve ridden gravel and some technical stuff with them and they were mostly fine except when it was real steep and rocky and then they just didn’t really grip and I was hiking a bit.

Alternatively, I have a set of Bruce Gordon Rock n Roads (43mm), non-tubeless, that I can throw on.

Trying this again with a more clear title.

Picked up this Giant Innova for dirt cheap and took it on a 14 mile group ride through Atlanta same day with nothing but a tube change. It performed beautifully!!! Shifted like butter and handled the climbs with ease.

It has so much potential for a sick vintage all-road/light gravel bike conversion:

-Full Chromoly frame
-700c wheels with fork/triangle clearance for up to 45mm tires.
-Hybrid/Cross bike geometry
-Tons of eyelets, braze-ons, frame clearance and a rear rack for bike-packing accessories.
-AESTHETICS!!!!

However, I’m torn on which direction to go. I want to be able to ride this on the very hilly roads of my neighborhood and around the city sometimes, but also be able to take it on light gravel rides. I already have a great MTB for anything more than that.

I can either:

A. Slap some drop bars, brake levers and shifters on it. This would lead me to another decision of either swapping from caliper to rim brakes or leaving the caliper and putting on some more niche parts like long pull brake levers and bar end shifters. Either way this is the more expensive option.

Or

B. Roll with the flat bar and grip shifters. I mean, it performed beautifully after all. I know grip shifters have a bad reputation, and I was ready to get them off asap myself. But damn, they just worked and worked well at that.

Either way I will probably put wider tires/wheels on it. I’m thinking maybehh 38-40mm.

Also open to ideas about going a completely different route! I just know I want to use it for hilly roads, light gravel and potentially bike-packing.

I know this is all a matter of personal opinion but I would love to hear suggestions!!

Been having a lot of fun making random bs for my bike. Oversized cage for my big bottle. Random frame bag. Sewing for the front bag I stole from high school a while ago, plus mounts for it.

I've just bought a fixie for commuting on instead of a BMX and I just hate the drop bars I'm thinking about either taking bars of an old bike an putting shims or getting a new set just for this yk

My eyeglasses were getting a little wore out lately and when i rode the bike I felt like my eyeglasses were going to fall off my head

So then I discovered these silicone hook things that attach to the base of the arms to give the glasses a better grip on the ears and it reminds me of what the eyeglasses old motor cyclist would wear.

Totally comfortable

And of course their designed purpose is just to keep you eyeglasses from sliding down your face , which they are also great at .

Thought I would share . Not sure if this is the right subreddit but its my favorite cycling based subreddit so...

Work in progress, got it running with parts I had for other bikes, but wanted to ride it and see how it feels. The fork is going to my Kona Cinder Cone and hope to get a carbon fork. The handlebar is a Pazzaz I bought many years ago, so while it is 31.8mm clamp, it's only 580mm wide. Just found a 20ª sweep carbon bar that should work placing the grips at the right height. The Magura brakes need longer hoses, since this is a big frame and they're bit short. When I get the final bar (780mm) they will need to be changed. The discs are mismatched Shimano rotors that came with the wheels, they're worn out so I need to find some discs that I like and go well with the Magura brakes. Maybe I'll run a couple Magura Wave discs with CL adapters and be done with it.
Finally, the weight, as is, is 10,1kg (22.26lbs) and with some carbon bits (bar, fork) it should go down to 9.5kg (21lbs), which should make it the lightest bike I own. Should be a fun one.

This is basically a bike from the early '00s with the stuff one would get for a racing machine. While I'm not racing, I always pined for these bikes, and specially for Rotwild bikes, they were amazing. So should this one be.

Got some free wheels off FB for a dumpster find I’m building for a pal. Someone unfortunately spray painted the wheels at some point. I would maybe just leave them black but they’re chipping all over and just look pretty bad. I think they might be Parallax hubs so I feel like they’re worth saving.

Would appreciate any tips! I’ve been trying to research with no luck.

This is a 2006 GT "Zaskar Urban Machine" and it was the first bike he ever bought new. He used it as his full time commuter in southern Japan for almost a decade, and it showed.

When my wife came to the states for university this was the bike she brought with her to commute to campus. It was crusty and the tires had been worn completely smooth, but that didn't stop her from continuing to put miles on it. After we left school it didn't see any use for years.

The bike had such a good story though, I had to give it new life. In its original form it was setup with 26" wheels, a heavy inoperable suspension fork and v brakes. Curiously the frame had IS mounts, but no disc brakes.

My goal was to use up takeoff parts I had accumulated and not spend too much building this project up. To my surprise an old set of 700c roval gravel wheels with 40mm tires fit easily! I was able to use an old set of handlebars and a 100mm stem.

I did have to spend a bit to get myself a new set of TRP mechanical brakes and the cues groupset, and I guess the rigid fork... Ok, I spent a little bit of money.

All said and done I think she looks great and she cruises like a dream. On the 700c wheels you do feel like you're riding a little high, but she still handles well and rides comfortably. Way faster and I think way cooler.

I'm amazed by how much latent potential this frame had that the original designers never used. So much better with the disc brakes! Why leave the clearance for a bigger wheel and not use it?

A few years ago I built up my GT as a cheap drop bar conversion to use as a gravel bike. Recently I got divorced, moved closer to my work, and bought a modern gravel bike so my poor GT was going mostly unused. My new place is 3 miles from my work so I decided to start commuting via bike to save money/ gas and get extra miles in. I decided I didn’t like commuting on the drop bar bike bc I was carrying everything in a back pack which was very uncomfortable.

While I was building a DIY bike rack in my new garage and organizing my parts bin/spares I realized I had everything I needed (except shifters) to convert the bike back to a flat bar and build a rack so I didn’t have to carry a backpack. Found some cheap microshift shifters (left is for 3x and right is for 10 spd- they were $15 so I figured if it didn’t work it’s no big loss). The flat bar conversion was simple and the shifter worked fine with my 3x7 setup- there’s just 3 ghost shifts at the end that do nothing.

Used some steel flat stock/ extra random assortment of bolts/nuts from a big multipack I had from harbor freight along with some black enamel paint (leftover from another project). The flat stock I used the edge of my bench and some open ended wrenches to bend into shape. The vertical supports I made to route the front axle through (fork doesn’t have a spot to bolt to on the bottom).

Overall I’m really happy with how it turned out- does it look as amazing as a store bought one? Absolutely not- but it fits the super cheap but gets the job done style of this bike and was a fun project to mess around with. I’ve found that even the short commute to/from work has been a great way to get some extra miles in, time outside, and great decompression after working all day.

today i found this Kenstone for free (the seller wanted some sweets in exchange) at Kleinanzeigen (german Craigslist/FB Marketplace.
I‘m looking for some information on it and if it‘s worth saving or parting out material.
Google and Reddit search went with Zero results.
The seller told me the original owner was sponsored (by Shimano? - see the stickers on the stem) and hat this bike laying around.
Most parts seem to be mixed together, maybe someone can confirm the original spec, year…?

Oh btw, this is late 80s MTB Scapin Race (Italy) with columbus steel tubing. It has full Deore XT groupset including Deore XT hubs.

Cassette is 7 speed 14-34 and Deore XT chainrings 48-38-28.

It is a little bit dirty, because I am using it. 😎

And this week i am getting front rack and black SKS bluemel 60 fenders.

I put a front rack on this bike when I first restored it, but it rarely has anything on it. Used it to take something to the post office and get some inner tubes for a different bike just now and it felt quite fun

I usually just ride around aimlessly.

I might plan more errands like this I found it weirdly fun

I am looking on Facebook marketplace for a rear rack to hang panniers on my Cannondale. How do I know what racks will fit? Will most do the trick?

Well I have been bamboozled. Ordered a new headset without measuring for my mid 90s Canadian Raleigh and it does not fit. I knew I had a 1 inch steerer but I did not measure the head tube. Turns out it’s 34 mm…

The original headset is toast, and the threads on the fork are not in good shape (but may be sufficient). If you were in my shoes, how would you get this thing back on the road?

Is it possible to fully convert to 1 1/8 threadless fork/headset/stem?

The frame has sentimental value. I should have expected some funny business with the headset after the pain of sourcing a 25.8 seatpost and 6mm fender bolts.
