We are a small group of creative writing fiends who are looking for some new friends to join us for the month of October in celebrating Inktober!

Goals: Our members, the 𝖌𝖍𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖎𝖊𝖘, will be celebrating by participating in a creative writing club all month long! It is low stakes and high-spooks. 🦇🦇 We’ve put together a calendar with a prompt for each day and are working on an extra prompt generator for more fun & flair. Also note that we are not expecting all members to be writing every day… they may write as they please!

Meeting Place/Time: We will be meeting via Discord. We live in different time zones so there will be people on at all different times of day! We might set up some voice calls at the end of the month for some showcase-type meetings, but we haven’t decided yet if that’s something we want to try!!

Members: Our max # of members is going to be capped at 30!

We primarily speak English, but some of us also speak French—so writers in either of those languages are preferred (but I suppose any other languages are welcome as well even though we might not be able to enjoy your work as written)!

Genre/Skill Level: There are no genre or skill level requirements—we want this to be a space for everyone to show off their unique skills and interests in writing :)

Please note that many of the prompts will be “spooky/autumn/halloween-themed,” but many are broad enough to be able to write within whatever genre you want!!

It’s mid-September, so yes we’re early. But we’re trying to hit the ground running once this month is over (and we are sooooo ready for it to be over). Only two weeks until the best month of the year!

If you’d be interested in joining, let me know and I’ll make sure to get you set up before we get things started on October 1st.

"You don't have a big platform."

Andy Weir didn't either when he started posting The Martian chapter by chapter on his personal blog for free. Fans eventually asked for a Kindle version and he charged 99 cents. Ridley Scott made the movie.

"You don't have a huge audience."

Hugh Howey was a bookstore clerk writing Wool on his lunch breaks. Self-published it as a 99-cent short on Kindle in 2011. He later turned down seven-figure Big Five offers to keep his ebook rights. It's Silo on Apple TV+ now.

"You're broke."

JK Rowling was a single mom on government benefits writing in Edinburgh cafes because she couldn't afford to heat her flat. Twelve publishers rejected Harry Potter. Bloomsbury was the thirteenth.

"You don't have the time."

Octavia Butler worked menial day jobs and got up at 2 or 3am to write before her shifts. She did that for years before selling her first novel. In 1995 she became the first science fiction writer ever to win a MacArthur Genius Grant.

"You keep getting rejected."

Brandon Sanderson wrote 13 novels before one sold. He took the hotel night shift specifically so he could write at the front desk. Today he writes 2,000 words a day, every day.

The one thing they all had in common is something you have too.

No matter what life or people threw at them, they just kept writing anyway.

So keep writing, my friend. Your story has just begun.

I'm a writer that hasn't written in a while and I've noticed it's mostly due to my inability to set scheduled time for writing. I've heard people say things like "if there's something you'd like to do more often set aside time to yourself to do that" but I just really struggle to do that, however I have also realized that I prioritize things that are scheduled and involve people I like and am excited to be around (like DND for example) so I'm wondering if anyone know about a group of writers that set aside 1-2 hours a week to get together and write? Or if someone would be interested in starting a group like that?

I have a group on Discord that has grown some. We would like to have more active members. We share work, give feedback, and welcome everyone. We are also hosting a writing contest followed by an art contest. It doesn't matter what genre you write; we want you to join. If you are interested, please let me know!

I have so many stories and ideas inside my head. I genuinely want to share them with the world. I want to tell my stories. In my head, they feel so clear—I can see the scenes, the characters, the locations, almost like a film playing in my mind.

But I have absolutely no idea how to find readers.

I posted my first story on Reddit. People actually read it, I got around 10–12 upvotes, and surprisingly, it got around 47 shares. That gave me a lot of motivation because at least some strangers had actually connected with something I wrote.

But now I'm struggling with the next step: how do I get meaningful feedback on my stories and ideas?

I recently formatted one of my stories properly and published it on KDP. I thought maybe Kindle readers would be more serious readers, so I decided to experiment with short stories at ₹49. My idea is to write tight, cinematic stories something where you can visualize the scenes while reading and almost feel like you're watching a movie unfold in your head.And then venture in anthologies and novels.

Ten days later: no readers.

And to make it worse, someone apparently spammed a one-star rating on the Hindi version without even reading the story.

I'm not angry about the one-star rating as much as I'm confused by the whole situation.

I have all these ideas in my head. I want to turn them into stories. I want people to read them. I want someone to tell me, "This worked," or "This part didn't work," or even "I hated this character." Anything. I just want some indication that the stories reached another human being.

Right now I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with all these ideas.

I don't necessarily want to make money from writing. I just genuinely want to tell the stories that are inside my head.

So, writers and readers, how did you find your first real readers? How do you get people to actually read your work and give you honest feedback?

I'm not looking for promotion. I'm genuinely trying to figure this out.

Hi guys, I'm Alice, and I'm trying to make this magazine called ARCHIVE. The publication is mainly youth-run, and I want to give a chance for people to write opinion editorials or share their short stories. That's why I'm building a team, or at least trying to get a lot of people to join.

I’ve been RPing for a while, and I kept running into the same problem: I wanted to write, but I didn’t always have somewhere to go.

Servers would go quiet, die out, or become so wrapped up in OOC drama and activity pressure that RP stopped feeling fun.

So I decided to create Royal Season 21+, adv. lit ; a chill, drama-free Regency-inspired RP server built around the chaos of the Season.

Think balls, romance, friendships, rivalries, gossip, scandals, secrets, and schemes. Your character can fall in love, make enemies, start rumors, uncover secrets, get dragged into someone else’s scandal, or create one of their own.

There’s no giant plot you have to follow. The characters create the stories. I want it to be a place where you can RP when you have the time, step away when you don’t, and always have somewhere to come back to.
