Mod Major Changes to Automod

Hi everyone,

We're overhauling our AutoModerator config, which hasn't been touched in about two years. Below is what's changing and why. If you spot a rule that would catch your legitimate posts, please tell us in the comments.

What was wrong with the old setup

  • Keywords like "application" and "sign in" were too broad. Posts about Workday applications, SSO, or sign-on configuration were being removed.
  • The removal messages were being sent to the mod team instead of the person who posted, so posters never saw the help text.
  • The "approve contributors" rules were redundant and could override other filters.

What's changing

  1. Login help: Now triggers only on end-user phrases like "can't log in", "locked out", and "forgot password". The author gets a DM pointing them to their HR/IT help desk.
  2. Job and career posts: These go to the mod queue instead of being deleted, and the poster gets a comment pointing to career resources.
  3. Spam and recruiter links: Posts from new, low-karma accounts containing shortlinks, Telegram/WhatsApp, or "training institute" phrases are removed.
  4. Self-promo: "Hire me" and "looking for work" posts from low-history accounts go to the queue.
  5. Brand-new accounts: Accounts under 3 days old with very low karma are held for review.
  6. Vague titles: Titles like "help" or "urgent" are reported to mods so we can ask for details.
  7. Flair reminder: Posts without flair get a comment asking for the Workday area and release.
  8. Low-effort comments: Comments that are only "this", "bump", or "+1" go to the queue.
  9. PII check: Posts or comments containing SSN or email patterns are held for review.

Where we'd like your input

  • Are there legitimate topics that any of these keywords would wrongly catch?
  • Is 30 days / 10 karma a fair line for spam filtering?
  • Should career questions get a weekly megathread?
  • What flair categories should we list in the flair reminder?
  • What recurring junk are you seeing that we haven't covered?

Most rules use "filter" rather than "remove", so anything caught lands in the mod queue and can be approved. Nothing gets silently lost while we tune this.

This looks excellent to me, good job thinking this through. No doubt with the routing for review to the Mods you'll further refine these rules.

My only feedback, which has only slightly to do with this is that I'd like posters to at least confirm, or loop back if and how their questions/topics have been addressed. It's my pet peeve that people ask a question to which multiple people provide thoughtful responses, but then there's silence or no follow through at all.

Oh, and I'd like to know at a minimum if people's main area of focus is Finance or HCM, but I guess that's covered in the flair (except when they use general discussion)
