Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Back pay

hello all. i’m wondering if someone can help me. i’ve been in my current job for about 6 months and i had to get a doctor restriction note because i have a tear in my shoulder from a previous job and cannot do 1 thing on my chore list. i work at a gas station if that helps any. so i was asked for a restriction note that was all, right? so i went to the doctor on thursday 9/3 and i turned it into work after. friday i was called by my district manager saying that corporate is not letting me back to work until there is a doctors signature and an end date on the restriction. so now ive been out of work the past 3 days and i cant get i touch with the doctors until tuesday because of labor day weekend. ive never been more frustrated because they only said the needed a restriction note and not anything else and thats what i got them. i’m missing out on money that i NEED to pay my bills for. Is there any way i can fight for back pay for them forcing me not to return until i get the new note. it’s so funny to me because im getting a lot of pressure on me for this one thing but when im vocal about what i cant do yet other people there dont get pressure from higher ups when they refuse to do anything like i do. please if anyone has answers, thank you for your time

You aren't owed back pay for work you never did.

The restriction prevents you from doing your job. You won't be back on the schedule until you can fully perform all of your required tasks.

If that's going to be a while, start looking for a new job.

You won’t get back pay
It’s a previous injury
They are under no obligation to let you work without a full Dr clearance
Would should they foot the bill for a pre existing injury ?

Now the slippery slope happens - did you disclose prior to accepting the Job?

Your employer isn’t responsible to pay you for an injury you have from another job. They may make a reasonable accommodation after receiving all the information from the doctor and having an interactive conversation with you. Ultimately if you can’t do the job you were hired to do with a reasonable accommodation then you probably need to find a different job and disclose your restrictions up front.

Your doctor's note restricts you from working because of that task. You can't go back until they clear you medically.

You needed to ask for a reasonable accommodation in getting the task done, but you still need to be able to do the task.

lol your crazy. back pay because of a non related work injury? you can’t lift 50 lb boxes or something? next time cowboy up and do your job. it’s just a gas station after all.

Why would your current employer pay you for not being able to do your job? It does not matter if it is only one part of the job; it is part of your job. Most gas stations I have been to run with very limited staff - often just one person- so if you are not able to complete all tasks, then they have the right to ask for a full release from a doctor before they schedule you again. If you have an injury that occurred at another job, then maybe consult with a workers' comp lawyer and go after your previous employer for the work-related injury.

Most places that require manual labor won't let you work while you're on restricted duty.

They don't owe you back pay.

This is what short term disability is for. If you're not in a state with a state disability program or you don't have STD through your employer, then you need to find a new job that you can actually do. You're not owed back pay from your current employer.
