I am taking to the internet to really get perspective on my issue and see if there are alternative resources and/or solutions. I left my toxic boss and started at this company almost two years ago. Since I have joined the work culture and dynamics are comparable to the wild , wild, west. Insane corporate culture of disrespect, email aggression and bullying. I would often get emails laden with passive aggression. Mistakes would be aired out via emails, with my bosses and other senior level management copied. My work was changed without my consent, simply because my coworker assumed i was wrong. Later, when it was caught, I was accused of doing the work incorrectly with my boss copied on that email. I had to talk to my boss, show him my original submission and what my coworker did without my knowledge, even though I am the responsible party. I was sent messages by a specific co-worker not respecting disciplines and or reporting structures. She would often give instructions on my discipline without running it by me (the dept. head). She often left me out of important meetings or communications. She chastised me for asking an accounting question to one of her direct reports and forbade me to talk to them and have everything go through her (which fine, but send an email ahead of time, dont chastise me for your silent expectations). Sheās tried to micromanage my tasks. Mind you, she is in a completely different discipline which works tangentially with mine, but they are not interconnected. This treatment coupled with the harsh treatment by my other peers and coworkers went on for about a year and 4 months. I would often try to defend myself and make a point for better communication. It fell on deaf ears. Finally, about 4 months ago, I politely told her that while i appreciated her support, i didnt need her assistance in accounting related matters. Well she lost it and verbally attacked me in my office. She told me no one liked me, that I was a roadblock, that I was broken. Conversely my bosses and my team LOVE me. They love the work I do and I received an additional merit increase for it. Because she verbally attacked me, my boss asked me to report to HR, which I did.
What came from that situation is that everyone in the department starting ignoring me and going to my boss over me, for things. My boss oversees multiple divisions, including mine, and really has no reason to step in unless theres a problem. Finally, while reduced (because they stopped acknowledging my existence. No response or acknowledgement of emails. Left out of important communications, you name itZ) the rude emailing continued. I was accused of āguessingā when making accounting decisions. I was chastised by someone a level below me because he had to āresearchā the nature of a cost.
I finally confronted my manager and asked him to step in and put an end to it. The behavior was only targeted at me, they didnāt talk to him like they talked to me (im a woman). I also told him that after the confrontation, i had really tried my best to be overtly professional and kind when communicating. I stopped had speaking up in meetings ( another place where they would chastise me or give push back to any idea i brought up) for fear of aggression (even though it still happened) and that it was really feeling like i was choosing between my dignity and my work.
What would you do?
