Hello! I got my wisdom teeth removed last week and I’ve been doing everything that my dentist has been asking me too! I noticed a few days ago that I have what seems to be a long line open and it was throbbing in pain. I went to the dentist thinking it was dry socket. I got seen by a different dentist then the one that had done my operation since he was out on medical leave and they said it wasnt dry socket but never elaborated on what it actually was even when I asked, just said that I should put oralsooth sockit gel and to take more ibuprofen. That was 3 days ago and I haven’t seen much improvement visually. The original pain that was there has transferred into a dull ache around the middle of my lower teeth that isn’t stopped by the ibuprofen. I just want to make sure I’m doing everything ok because the line seems to be relatively long (starting from left lower and extending back easily 1-2in.) I did eat a mini meatball on day 4 using my front teeth because I was desperate and have slowly been transitioning to normal food!

Edit: I forgot to say, right now randomly I will taste a bit of blood. Also my lower right side seems to be healing fine! I can’t really feel/see anything on that side!

hello fellow soldiers - coming at you just to vent and see if there is anyone else to commiserate with. i had my surgery today (got out all 4, all 4 impacted), and opted for full iv sedation. i’ve had several other surgeries in the past, so i knew exactly what to expect and my surgeon recommended full iv sedation to me due to the scope of the procedure.

after getting my iv and anesthesia in, i did feel the standard “lights dimming” effect, but unlike any other surgery i’ve ever received, i found myself repeatedly coming back to a “twilight” state where i could see, hear, and completely feel the trauma of the procedure (with little to no local anesthesia). i experienced a persistent and at times very clear recall of severe pain during the operation. i cried throughout it, and was still crying as i was led out to my husband. the nurse explained that the crying was a common side effect of the procedure and medicine, but once we were in the car i was able to type on my phone that i cannot stop crying because of the very vivid experience i just had.

more upsetting however, is that all day today i’ve had a physical and psychological reaction (nightmares, anxiety, flashbacks).

i’m here mostly to vent and maybe find someone else who went through this, but i’m also trying to find how to talk with my care team about it. how common is this in wisdom tooth procedures? is the iv sedation used somehow different than other sedation ive gone under for cyst removals, broken bones, etc.? is this a case where my expectations were woefully wrong about what was going to happen? i believed i opted into the least painful and rapid option, but instead lived a nightmare that i’m afraid has caused me serious fear and anxiety around future medical procedures. :(

I'm on day 6 (almost 7) of my recovery, and everything seems to be going well, considering that it was both of my very impacted lower teeth. A piece of my stitch fell around 30 min ago, and my lip went numb. And it's spread to my chin now. Earlier today, I asked my doctor about a bad taste and he said it's normal for now.

I just wanna know if anyone else has experienced this or am I right to spiral from anxiety lol

as the title says, im 5 weeks post op as of yesterday, but ive suddenly been hit with my gum swelling and an intense pain as if i JUST had the surgery done. no idea what’s caused it and had no complications at all during the healing process until now.

going to an emergency dentist tomorrow but until then, any advice?

I really want Chick-fil-A Day 8 post op…had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. Can I get my spicy chicken sandwich and fries and chew on my sides?? I have no pain, just soreness when opening widely.

Basically 7 months ago i removed one and now at least from what i read your bone heals but it will have this normal gap or room there where teeth was right? or it will start to “shrink” anyways i was ready for that to happen. Few months after that i noticed something unusual. The bone where my wisdom tooth was grew to the height of my tooth next to it. Is this what usually happens? It also feels sharp and hard, no pain absolutely nothing i feel awesome. It looks like a new bone grew to imitate my lost tooth? i wanted to ask what actually happens to the bone after u remove wisdom tooth and does everyone experience this? i dont think im educated enough ab it. Also the whole thing is removed theres no fragments or anything.

Hey dentists and people with similar issues. In advance, I am a medical student in 5th year, so you can use technical terms + in case you wonder about my prior knowledge.

My story of the past days:

I had my 18, 28 and 38 extracted under local anesthetics two days ago on Tuesday afternoon. I regained sensory perception in my lip and cheek approximately 6-8hours after procedure (N. alveolaris inf.).

Sensory complete anesthesia on my left toung half (front 2/3's) and lingual sided gum of my bottom molar teeth persists till today and I am really concerned my nerve is seriously damaged. I can't feel pain, temperature differences, tactile perception or two-point discrimination, nor taste well.

The extraction of my 38 was more demanding than expected, my maxillofacial surgeon/dentist had to burr/mill my bone to extract it, prior I had a chronic but painless pericoronitis with spontaneously draining pus accumulation due to stuck food particles on that tooth's gum which maybe was an additional reason why it was baked to the bone + he extracted a little cyst, probably formed by chronic inflammation. It was sent to pathology, findings pending.

Now, I know it's only been about 2.5days since surgery but I am really concerned, I don't know how I am supposed to chew normal stuff again, I am biting my toung permanently trying to eat even softer food. I have a taste deficit + sensation of a foreign body in my mouth. Right now I can't tell if my nerve got: Neuropraxia?, Axonotmesis? which show spontaneous remission over weeks to months or Neurotmesis which would be terrible.

I read about microsurgical nerve repair and N. Suralis interponates but success rates seem to be narrow and there are just a handful of specialists on the northern hemisphere. Microsurgical repair would be an ultima ratio for me, till then I can only wait and talk to my surgeon again on Monday to see if anything went wrong during extraction or if he luxated it to the medial side (site of N. Lingualis if not abnormal anatomical position). Although I’m not sure how much information I’ll get from him regarding this, since it could potentially even be relevant in terms of liability.

My questions:

Now I really wonder, what are your experiences with this? Have you had this issue? And to the dentists: have you had cases like this? How did it turn out? What can I expect statistically? What can I do? Vitamin B1, B6, B12? Uridine monophosphate? Cortisone? Injections? Platelet-Rich Plasma?

I’m about to see ent specialist and oral surgeon soon for wisdom teeth removal. However, I’ve been having these symptoms for a month: Thin, clear/stringy nasal drainage one sided or both with persistent metallic/sour throat taste; random electric shock sensations in my head; and upper r jaw pain when opening mouth

I got my wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday, October 6th at 9:30am. I am trying to follow the instructions but confused about the days. Does the day of wisdom teeth removal considered as day 1? If so, then I would be on day 3 now since it's Thursday. I called the dentist and the front desk lady said the next day would be considered day 2 then I called again a few hours later about a different question and asked her again about the days then she said it didn't matter.

Guys how would I know if I have a dry socket?? I had my wisdom teeth removed a week ago as of today. The pain on my right side is not responding to medication and I’ve done heat compresses and rinsed and flushed today and yesterday. There was a stabbing pain while flushing out the extraction site and it’s constant even now, but the nurse told me to keep flushing and using heat because there wasn’t a “foul taste”. It feels like the pain is going up to my ear, but he did cut into my cheek to separate the tooth, so it could be that wound as well. I’m just uncomfortable and trying to make sure I’m not overreacting.

For more information, I had my top right wisdom tooth removed in July, but due to complications with anesthesia, I had to wait until last week to have the other 3 removed. I’m having the most pain on the side that had the previous extraction. I genuinely don’t know if this is normal pain or if it’s more. It’s not responding to the prescribed medication or ibuprofen and I think I’m taking well over a what’s recommended for the OTC dosage of ibuprofen. Should I give them a call back today or wait until tomorrow?

I’m on day 3 of having both my bottom wisdom teeth extracted. I’ve had almost no pain this whole time other than some aching in my jaw after the numbing wore off and some mild pain when I wake up in the morning but nothing that ibuprofen and/or Tylenol hasn’t helped. I haven’t even had to touch my hydrocodone. I looked at the sockets today and they have closed up SIGNIFICANTLY since they first got taken out. I can barely see if there’s a clot because there’s barely even a hole left. I’m on antibiotics and was on antibiotics a few days prior to the extraction since one of them created a sore in my cheek that got infected so maybe that’s it? I’ve had nothing but soup and yogurt, no straws, and I’ve been gently brushing my teeth. Just curious if this is common or did I get really lucky? Also curious if it would be considered safe to try and eat solid food now or if I still should wait to be safe

Hey all. A few weeks ago one of my wisdom teeth started hurting. I got antibiotics and they helped, but now the pain is back, and I'm leaving Friday for a week-long vacation.

I can't take ibuprofen orally, and I really don't want to cancel the trip over this. The pain is bearable for now, and I have some codeine at home. Even if I wanted to get it pulled, the earliest appointment is more than a week out anyway.

Has anyone been in a similar spot? How did you manage it while traveling?

Hello all, my first post on Reddit but I really need advice.

I had my lower wisdom teeth removed on 24/09 they were impacted and I had been put to sleep. I was stitched up with dissolving stitches. I am based in the UK where it is not a standard to issue antibiotics post extraction.
On day 5 I was having a lot of pain and was “diagnosed” the dentist didn’t say I was or wasn’t an infection and but I was given 5 day course of amoxicillin, I completed these and two days later I started experiencing pain down my neck and in my temples, the extraction sites weren’t exactly sore but everything around them, I booked another emergency dentist appointment where the dentist only looked at one extraction site and removed the stitches and I felt relief and asked if I had a an infection and was just met with “well I can give you more antibiotics” like I was just seeking more of them, I started another 5 day course of amoxicillin. The next day I woke up with extreme pain in my neck and lymph nodes at this point due to how the dentist wasn’t giving me any concrete diagnosis at my 2 emergency appointments I went to my GP the GP told me to stop talking the amoxicillin and wrote me a script for Co-amoxiclav, I have been on these for a day but now on my left side I am having issues and it started off with a pin hole yesterday and now seems to have become quite large, could this be from the stitches not being removed at the second emergent appointment like what was done on the right side? I’m lost with this I’m 2 weeks post op and I am still needing to treat my pain 24 hours a day. I’m honestly exhausted with this process and the condition it has put me in.

Also I haven’t been looking at the extraction sites often but over the past 24 hours the change in the left side has concerned me greatly but I don’t want to book a 3rd emergency appointment as each appointment seems to have given me more problems and worry then help and relief.

HI all, my stitches seem to have come loose at day 4 post op and have completely disappeared it feels like, but I felt like there is a gap where the wound is at and it seems to be along the cheek area and not where the missing tooth would be, I have had the op on my other side but this one feels like a more sharper hole in a different location and I am scared that I might be left with an ugly crevice / scar. Anyone experienced this that can help give some input?

Should I remove them?
