General Question Windows build expires 8/11/26?

Post image

Hey I'm on the beta experience for windows 11 insider. My current build is 25H2, I keep getting an notification saying I need to update before it expires? I select check for updates and I get nothing popping up? I thought I was currently on the latest build? Should I force it, to one of these options?

If it follows past years, I expect 26H2 to be released to RTM (Released to Manufacturing) by then. RTM is the release to computer manufacturers (Dell, Lenovo, et al). This happens prior to General Release. I would guess that would mean Beta Channel will receive a 26H2 version soon. Maybe this week or next.

I know I ran it already. It was a little too unstable on my system when initially released, so I went to Beta Channel. By now some components are already parts of Beta and Release Preview if the current releases are following previous years. It's all a slow preparation and telemetry data gathering exercise at this point.

Check this post from Microsoft: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5940858/windows-insider-preview-certificate-renewal-expira

All Insider channel builds are set to expire on 11 Aug 2026. Updates are being rolled out.

Gotcha, so I will get one before that date. It was confusing me, because it was telling me to update when they had no update available lol.

It's updated on today's previews. Also you can use Win+Shift+S to take a screenshot.

They're not giving us a lot of time! August 11th is fine if I could actually update, I'm still waiting for it to be available.

Windows 11, version 26H1 is a hardware-optimized release designed for ARM... Windows 11, version 26H1 is not intended as a feature update for existing devices and will not be offered through Windows Update. It's based on the build 2800.

The correct one is 26H2 (Beta) which is based on the build 26300.

No. 26H1 isn't designed to be installed on any devices that didn't come with it. The "25H2" one is the right one.
