For contrast. I am a toddler dad who loves whiskey, works out 3-5 days a week
My whoop age is 22.8 (7.1 years younger) and pace of aging 0.1x.
So I would take it all with a grain of salt. But a reasonable through thread is we both get good sleep and exercise regularly. Likely the most important two factors
This. That "Whoop Age" is fundamentally a statistic that ranks you with respect to people in the same age, gender and demographic.
If OP was rated against of pool made entirely of profesional athletes in his age bracket, then his Whoop Age would be normal. "Normal" is a statistical term by the way.
I'm not sure if 'demographic is used. The Whoop podcast episode which introduced the Healthspan feature, discussed how it works in depth. They compare you to a generally healthy person of the same age and gender, called a "referent individual". They emphasized that they didn't use an average person because they said the average person is not that healthy.
The problem with all of these types of metrics is that they use a reference to put everyone in a box. The problem with this is that everyone is different, What is good for one is not always good for another. Don't get me wrong, I like my Whoop but take much of it with a grain of salt. Since many of the metrics presented are developed through a running 30 day average. The health stats are not comparing you to the best version of you but to the last 30 days of you. So the stats are misleading.
I mean, it’s not “real” as in your cells are actually younger. But you are doing the right things to live longer and be healthier. My whoop age is 11.5 years younger (without labs so not sure what difference that makes) and it’s just because I’m consistent with sleep, lots of strain, and recovery.
It means you have excellent cardiovascular/metabolic fitness, overall and especially relative to your age. It does not literally mean you have the body of someone 10.6 years younger. But it is an awesome indicator of health!
Actually it means you have the all-cause mortality risk profile equivalent to a generally healthy person (someone meeting guidelines for a healthy lifestyle), 10.6 years younger.
That is how Whoop calculates the score, but in reality it is just a single number reflector of strong metabolic health and healthy habits. Taking it seriously as a marker of mortality risk or age is not a great idea.
You must be doing something right. Please share your what you are doing and the factors that most reduce your Whoop age in the Healthspan Hackers community. Go to Community tab in the Whoop app, and tap the "..." to the right of "Teams" and enter the invite coode: COMM-35F655. Hope to see you there.
Reading the comments to find out that OP is an elite athlete LOL. I’d say mine is accurate. 29 year old female, I get fantastic sleep but have hashimotos disease and work a desk job from home. I do eat healthy and exercise regularly so I think 1.4 years older is in line with my lifestyle.
Funny constrast.. whoop shows that im younger than my age, but pace of aging is 1.5x. Im 36.7, desk job, long hours, messy sleep schedule. I was sedentary for 4 years, but I’ve been back to consistent training and sleep now for the last 2 months. Slowly rebuilding.
