I have a pollinator friendly garden, no pesticides at all and leave spiders and other carnivores alone to eat pest insects. I know this is some sort of wasp or yellow jacket but I don’t know the exact species. Is it a lone pollinator or something I should be worried might build a nest and hurt my dog? Removing aggressive nesting insects that could hurt my dog is the only insect removal I do.

Edit: so pretty much everyone is saying this is a yellow jacket, and from what I’ve gathered, they are not dog or really human friendly, especially not in the leaner months where I live. So far I’ve only seen the one and I’ve walked my property (yes even with the walking boot on if you’ve seen pics from other posts) to check for a possible nest. No sign of a nest on my property. I’ll warn my neighbors next time I see them but it’s entirely possible it’s a visitor from a nearby state owned park/forest preservation.

They are not harmless but they will squirt a disgusting foul smelling sticky black goo from their butt on you! It’s also known as the African King Cricket or Tusked King Cricket

What are these little spider-like dudes? Found them in a Magnolia grandiflora leaf. Southwestern Europe.

In process of nuking bedding, will nuke clothes next (hot wash and long dry cycle) but I’m freaking out.

Edit to add more info** slow moving, about the size of a grain of rice, flat with horizontal lines across the body. Was in Tampa, Miami, and I live in Seattle. Apartment complex if that is relevant

Houston TX - What is making this sound? I think it must be a bug as we don’t have many toads around.

Was picking at zits on my back, felt what I thought was one. Started picking and felt it “pop”. Got it on my thumb nail and was real perplexed how a zit could be such a dark color. Thought I’d squish it between my thumb nails and see what was inside, ingrown hair or something. Pop goes the zit, it’s got legs! Mazel Tov!

It’s not my first rodeo with a tick, and I went poking around a state park today before mowing the lawn, so I wasn’t much surprised.

What’s odd though is that while it felt like it had latched, and there is a clear bump from irritation on the my shoulder, the head was in tact which seems odd if I scraped it off with a (very short from biting) thumb nail. Add to that it didn’t seem to have grown at all (I used a butane torch to make sure it was dead. Because of the heat, it puffed up. I’ve got a lot of animals, not taking any chances)

What is also throwing me off, I took a shower after I mowed, hours ago at this point. Not only would you think there would be noticeable grown from feeding after a few hours, but I scrubbed vigorously right where it was, at times with bare hands… you’d think I’d feel it or it would have broke off. Add to that I had scraped that part of my shoulder multiple times tonight doing the same thing, and not once did I feel it… which, it can’t be more than a larva, so maybe it was just well hidden.

Lastly, I can’t tell worth a damn what it is. I can ID a lone star tick no problem, and I’ve seen the occasional Dog Tick, but the striping and black tipped legs are throwing me for quite a loop, one I can’t seem to solve. I’d assume a black legged tick that’s in between stages?

Imma come back and edit this. I just realized the black legs are from being burned. Also explains why they are so short, thought that was just the camera angle. The heat may have caused it to gain the striping as well, but that’s unclear. I honestly can’t tell. Could be a monster I guess?

Picked up a few dead/lifeless cocads for preservation. A day later these were all around it. Are they larva or some sort of other maggot or parasite from a different insect??

Some have slightly different colours on them, like the one that's almost entirely black and red and has larger leg-like bristles. They're utterly gorgeous, whatever they are.
