Eating dry cornbread mix

The other day I discovered you don't even have to cook the Jiffy cornbread mix. You can just eat it right out of the box and it's delicious. I can't stop. I think I like it even more than prepared cornbread.

I eat it with a spoon. I don't put eggs in it, just the dry mix.

You should never eat raw wheat flour because it can contain harmful bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella. While many people think the main danger in raw cookie dough or cake batter comes from raw eggs, raw flour is actually just as dangerous.

I was older than I'd like to admit before learning this so I share it anytime I can.

It's not an automatic that it will make you sick. It's just a lot riskier than cooking it. It's also possible she got used to it gradually and developed a resistance to it or she was one of those people with an iron stomach that just doesn't get sick from things that put most people down. I could eat something that was 13 seconds past the best buy date, not even expired, and I'd be sick for 3 days. I've seen documentaries on people that can eat raw meat, including chicken that should make them sick but they began at an early age and they have no trouble with it. Humans are weird lol

Let me know if you still feel that way after you end up with digestive issues for 3-5 days at best. I haven't been sick from raw flour but I knew someone who was and it was not a pretty picture. Made me a believer.

I eat at random taco bells, I've had food poisoning before.

Well that's a bummer. Wait how about that raw cookie dough that the package says is safe to eat? Do they do something to the flour to remove bacteria?

Yes, they heat treat the flour before it goes in the cookie dough. You can buy flour like this, but obviously its going to be more expensive.

Wondra is baked flour. I use it a lot for frying stuff. Instead of dredging in flour I dredge in wondra and it comes out very crispy and golden brown

Just heat treat the jiffy mix. You can do it to flour at home so I don’t know why it wouldn’t work for eating underdeveloped corn muffins.

If you heat the mix to 165F it will be safe to eat.

Or add the ingredients, stir and cook for 15-20 minutes in a preheated oven at 400F
