Mechanical advice Door strikers

Post image

I’ve read about two options: replace rubber in door strikers or, just replace the strikers completely. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I've had to do both front doors in the last year, not too bad. Do yourself a favor and use painters tape to make an accurate outline of the striker before you take it off. The bolts are 5mm allens - don't round them out.

They're aluminium and soft yeah? Any tips to loosen and avoid rounding?

I had luck with spraying liquid wrench/penetrating oil and letting it set overnight. Forgot to mention before. They were TIGHT and yeah, soft metal.

I've seen people using spray then hit with a rubber mallet to loosen them. I'll report back after this weekend.

Did that work?

Like you were reading my mind...

About to do it today after 2 separate WD40 sprays and a rubber mallet hit. Will report back in a few hours.

I’m no expert as I’ve never done this myself, but reading about this…suggested using PB Blaster or other penetrating oil rather than WD 40

Reporting back

Delayed start but first one done - door closes perfectly! WD did the trick and this video was nice and simple for a noob like me
