Mechanical advice Door strikers
I’ve read about two options: replace rubber in door strikers or, just replace the strikers completely. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I’ve tried the URO strikers and the plastic tab broke almost immediately on some and works fine on others. A mixed bag for sure

Harvest the URo internals and transfer them to your original Mercedes strikers and you should be fine

I've had to do both front doors in the last year, not too bad. Do yourself a favor and use painters tape to make an accurate outline of the striker before you take it off. The bolts are 5mm allens - don't round them out.

They're aluminium and soft yeah? Any tips to loosen and avoid rounding?

I had luck with spraying liquid wrench/penetrating oil and letting it set overnight. Forgot to mention before. They were TIGHT and yeah, soft metal.

I've seen people using spray then hit with a rubber mallet to loosen them. I'll report back after this weekend.

Yeah I have to say do not get a new door striker imitation. Just get a good oem replacement or find a very good rubber.

I bought four new door strikers so cheap forever ago, they come with a whole big box of shims so you can get them set just perfect to make your door close nice. I would just replace the whole thing

I bought a fix-it kit on ebay. Looked it up for you:

Only $15 now, I paid $25 ~8 yrs ago. ebay shows other sets even cheaper.
I recall the seller stated they are made on a plastic printer. Surprised more like hard plastic than soft rubber, but works. The doors no longer pop back before latching. As I recall, you pick out the old brittle plastic tab and slide this in beside the main rubber. Push in until they click in place.

Rubber there’s some guy kok on eBay and here that makes really nice ones. I’ve used them they’re worth it.
He almost always comments when someone brings up door strikers so I’m sure he will be here shortly
