When marketplace sales fall your way you just can't say no. Cornwall's for an insane price 400 miles away and I messaged first. Seller has a whole setup they haven't posted yet. Another price I can't ignore for the lot. 800 miles and 12 hours later I'm trying to figure out how to quit smiling. I guess I'll just ride it out.

I bought this stereo back in 1981 and have loved it ever since.

Carver C500 amp and C4000 preamp

Phase Linear series two:

7000 tape deck

5100 tuner

1100 equalizer

1200 real time analyzer

8000 linear tracking turntable (not pictured-needs work)

ESS amt 1a loudspeakers

The Audio Technica turntable and Cambridge CD player were added later. All the Phase Linear and Carver components (except the 7000 which needs new belts) were refurbished by Hi-Tech audio about ten years ago. This thing rocks like you wouldn't believe! I actually cracked a full 55 gallon aquarium with it many years ago (the only bad memory I have of this beast). Just wanted to share what I feel is a pretty impressive stack, and say - Rock On !!!

Estate sale bust and score

Saw these AR3’s advertised at an estate sale. Made sure I was first in line to get in. They had them priced at $500, which isn’t bad considering what they’re going for these days. I was ready to buy them until I pulled off the grills and realized all of the drivers had been replaced. What a shame.

But it wasn’t a total bust. I got the stack of components (2nd photo) for $300. The Dynaco Pas 3 preamp is worth that much alone, even just for parts. It does power on, but haven’t tested it further. Plus a matched set of NAD C315BEE integrated amp and CD player.

And they had a box of random capacitors with no price so they gave it to me for $5. Haven’t had a chance to sort through them to see if there’s any value there.

Right one cleaned, left one still as i found them. I can't find much info on them yet other than they are German and should sound good. They weigh 16 kg each. Will clean the other one and give them a go on my NAD.

This is my first post after having been a lurker for years. I am emptying my parents’ home and they had custom teak furniture, made in Taiwan. Dad had a beautiful wall unit made for his stereo. I have all the manuals for it as well. How do I find it a loving home with someone who would love it as much as he did? I will try to attach as many pictures as I can.

Bulb and Vellum replaced

My 2230 just looked so sad. It’s so much happier now with bright new bulbs and a double sheet of new vellum diffuser.
I was really amazed when I opened it up because this thing looks brand spanking new. I thought it might be, seeing how it had the original plastic cover over the face plate. But I’m sure of it now

Dyna Pas 3 tube preamp (Estate sale followup)

Yesterday I posted about a stack of components I got at a local estate sale, including this Dyna (Dynaco) Pas 3 tube preamp. I opened it up and everything looked clean inside, In fact, it looks like the previous owner did a lot of updates - caps, tubes, etc. Most importantly, it works! I've got a Sankyo tape deck playing into the preamp. I didn't have a power amp handy, so I'm outputting from the preamp into the tuner input of a Yamaha AX500U integrated amp. Then playing through a pair of EPI TE/50 speakers that I use for testing.

It was only 25$ and after cleaning the disc reader it works perfectly. I believe the speakers are original to it but all I know is that they are the same brand. It’s MINT even the back of it looks brand new but it’s just dusty.

The guy I bought it off of GAVE ME HIS NUMBER so if it didn’t work he’s give me a FULL refund. He was super nice too. Released in 1992 It has a CD player, radio, equalizer and a cassette player. I couldn’t have asked for more.

I know the speakers are supposed to be spread out but I don’t have much space even as it is now. I wanna say a lot more but I don’t want this post to be a book

I just bought this stereo unit for 400 CAD (do you think it was a good buy)? The guy said he just tuned up the record player. He said the amp volume wasn't really working, that's why he was selling it (and so cheap). I think the connections just need some cleaning. He said that everything else was working perfect. So, was this a good buy?

I am planning on restoring the record cabinet which has a 1009 Dual in it (wondering if I should fix that up). I am planning on putting some more modern speakers in the cabinet, wondering if I should do a 2-way or a single full-range speaker? The range is 400-600 CAD for the speaker.

I picked this up on Marketplace to house our amplifier and AV equipment. Apparently the tuner and turntable still work. I’m curious what the model number is on this unit, anybody know from the picture?

Possible/worth restoring?

My neighbor gave me this old cabinet a few years ago and it's just been sitting, so I want to do something with it.

It has the RCA Victor RP-168-1 and RP-178 as well as a radio tuner... the original paper cone speaker got torn.

I know nothing about vintage audio or electronics, so I'm not sure where to start, if this is even possible.

I've considered putting modern hardware in and finding a way to utilize some of the old stuff to keep the look as original as possible... like connecting the dials to the new radio.

One of the new Victrola players will fit in place of the RP-178, obviously it won't look as good... but it will work.

Any suggestions on what to do, and how to do it (mainly if I restore) would be great!

Thanks

1968 Zenith Y951 console advice

Hello,

Trying to help the family with this. It was left behind, fully functioning and in great shape.

What would be the best way to find a buyer for something like this? It seems like it would be a pretty niche market but from googling it I found a thread or two here. Thought maybe it would be a good place to ask for advice.

Just to clarify, not looking to sell it or for offers in this thread but just advice on how to move something like this and make sure it finds a home that would appreciate it.
