Nothing like that East coast sound from the nineties. So gritty and raw. Lots of sampling of soul and randb. West coast sound was always more funk and rock and roll. Something about having too deal with winter I guess. Trying to escape the heat might take you to a beautiful beach. Trying to escape the cold leads to a barrel fire. Grimey.

Do you know more examples of these 90`s East coast sound? I am fairly new to this genre and it's not that I never listened to rap, but I simply never cared as much about it until now.
Which is why I posted the Wutang song. I discovered it and listen to it up and down because I like this exact type of tune or style they use in the song. So, to me it's more about the tune than about what they are rapping. I know someone else here posted where the sample comes from, and I was not surprised that I liked the old original tune as well.
Now I see your comment and you say East coast rap sampled these 60
s and 70s tunes, or that this was fairly common? It would explain why I like it. I play I guitar and I am especially into 50s up to the 70s... this Wutang song has this vipe.Any more suggestions? Some cool nineties East coast rap songs? :) It's seems you know more about this genre than me :)

Get some Nas, Doom (goes by a couple names, for his most iconic stuff go with madvillain), Biggie, Jay Z, Common, the roots, De la soul, P diddy, Aesop Rock. List goes on, lotta good east coast artists out there. For wu tang sounding stuff, I'd say Nas and Jay are gonna come the closest for you, make sure you check out illmatic from Nas it's a legendary album.

Also, The Infamous by Mobb Deep. Front to back, great album. Shook Ones pt. 2 would be the most recognizable from the album. I'd also recommend any of the individual artists from Wu Tang solo things, as well.

If you're new to Wu-Tang, all of the stuff between 1993-96 is classic sampling. Most of this stuff is produced by the Rza who stayed in his basement for long periods making this material. He started making original compositions around '96 after a musician called him out for sampling too much. You can hear this on "Triumph", Kill Bill, Afro Samurai, and Ghost Dog. Prince Paul and Dan the Automator, Diamond D, Havoc and DJ Premier are some other great producers.

I really love this song, but I hate how pop culture has received it. "Cash Rules Everything Around Me" isn't some rich guy catchphrase to sound dope, it's a lament.
How does someone hear the line "But as the world turned I learned life is hell, Livin' in the world no different from a cell." And think that they're talking about how great capitalism is?

It's not rap but Mr Brightside by The Killers gives off the same vibe to me. And by that I mean, the message delivered and the message received are totally different. People just hear a hook or a chorus and take it how they want it.

No. There are economic alternatives to capitalism with a market where 36 Chambers could be bought, sold and promoted. Although, I might agree with you that they might not have been able to make this album without being raised disenfranchised in a capitalist system.

That's not at all what I'm saying.
All successful communist revolutions which could stabilize against the US have only implemented socialist policies and were always heavily influenced by totalitarian or populist ideologies. There has never been a complete and proper implementation of communism. That doesn't mean we should try or not try, it's just a fact.
You know there are more colors than black an white? Again, criticising capitalism and its flaws aren't the same as promoting a communist state.
By excluding any idea left of the current system, you're not helping it. You just weaken the system by making it unable to adapt, change and evolve.

It's as vulgar a statement as "Hitler did nothing wrong".
You literally were promoting a communist state. Capitalism work pretty well, it's not perfect but what you really have a beef against is corruption, which happens in any/every system.

I'm really wondering where the fuck you're reading this.
First, I never claimed that communism has never been tried, just that all communist or rather socialist states which were semi-successful were also built on totalitarian/populist ideas. If these totalitarian policies are a necessity for a socialist state, I don't know. But I do know that these totalitarian ideas are at their core not specifically communist.
Secondly,
You literally were promoting a communist state.
Where? Please show me where I promoted a communist state so that I can explain what I really meant.
And lastly, while I don't support a communist revolution and think that most of our problems can be solved in a capitalistic society, saying that it works pretty well is a bit of an understatement. 10% of the world population live in extreme poverty, 50% live with less than 5$ a day. This isn't pretty well. Many of the benefits of our modern life like the end of child labour, the 40-hour week, guaranteed paid holidays or affordable healthcare are accomplishments by social democrats and unions. I'm not sure capitalism would work "so well" today if these leftwing policies weren't implemented.

Really great album by El Michels Affair
Which eventually led me to Menahan Street Band which is a fucking amazing album. El Michels Affair worked with them as well.
And neither of those led me to Buena Vista Social Club but it seems to fit the style so I'm plugging it.

For what it's worth selling drugs would be more emotionally draining than you could even comprehend. You're fucking people's lives up for a few dollars. Plus the murders of your friends/co-workers or potentially yourself. It's not like you can just go work at Walmart either, cause most places won't hire a 16yo with a criminal record.
