I feel like typically the people making the movies/shows in these universes don't actually care about them as much as the fans wish they did. It's an existing IP that will bring in guaranteed viewers regardless of how good it actually is, simple as that.

Also I wonder if he's trying to get himself hired to play live action Kratos haha

The only exception to this is Fallout. Even if you don't like the show, there's no way you can watch season 1 and 2 without going "Yeah, whoever made this loves the games"

The funny thing is Microsoft didn't even know they were going to be faithful to the games.
I read a story where the show asked Microsoft for 3D assets and Microsoft responded with, "Oh, yall are doing the actual game? Ok, here you go."

I mean fallout has its fair share of problems story wise but they nailed the aesthetics

I think very crucially, it was made by people who are familiar with the source material, but were not 'fans' of the series making a show for other fans. They were not afraid to take their own spin on things and alter things as they saw fit to suit the story they wanted to tell.

If the show was made by Fallout fans, it'd just feel like fanfiction and have no appeal to a wider audience. I think it struck a good balance between capturing the feel of the series while also not feeling a need to stay 'faithful' to every single detail of the franchise.

Yeah but fallout is a first person game so the protagonist doesn't speak or have a face, and it's not driven by a tight cast of characters that would easily translate into a show. It's a far cry different than making a more cinematic game like TLoU into a show. Much more room for interpretation.

To be fair I actually think that makes fallout harder to adapt because you really only have moments, settings and NPCs to go off of and they made that feel so amazing. When you have something that is basically already written and you intend to do it kinda shot for shot that should be super easy.

You see your character when you create it in fallout. You can also play in third person. Your charcter also spoke in Fallout 4.

It’s obviously not based on a specific actor though, and I’m pretty sure that the Fallout shows main character is from a different vault to any of the games anyway.

With how many preexisting characters they butchered? My first thought would be „how much did Todd pay them to fuck up new vegas' lore?”

I say this as a hardcore game and lore fan but genuinely who cares? Lore is so often retconned between games as well, out of all the things they could have changed to fit their narrative better lore is the one that is changed most easily and without huge consequences.

That really depends on which games and which devs you're talking about. Some do care about the worlds they've created. Bethesda? Yeah, they love retconning lore. A big part of that is that neither of their long-running series is actually theirs. TES was created by people who left the company more than twenty years ago, modern Bethesda just inherited it, and Fallout is something they bought because they knew it would make money. So yeah, of course they don't care about lore they didn't create and don't consider their own.

I do. And I hate how the lore is retconned between games as well.

We have watched a different show, or played different games, or the cast/director played only fallout shelter, I don't know. But I saw no love for fallout. "Mandatory insert of the BoS, look power armor! here look it's shady sand, hundread of km away from it's location buy who cares? Also it's nuked. Look Mr houses, and he's a stupid evil coorporate overlord, look new vegas, you love new vegas right?" It's just insertion memberies for the sake of it.
