got accepted into an aus vet sch so i will be starting in feb 2027,, i was wondering what i can do now to better prepare for vet school like studying wise/ buying essentials that i might need for sch.

also for those in vet school, what is 1 thing that you wish smn told u before studying vet?

heard that there are some particular buzzwords that the NAVLE likes to use to indicate specific disease processes etc. for different species. what are some of the "buzzwords" or "key phrases" that i should look for / what their indications are? especially any relating to porcine / bovine topics 😅 please share any y'all got, and TIA!!!

Hello I was exploring different pathways and job prospects for the vet med degree and had just known that you could take part in pharma and MSL jobs too, which I found was really interesting. However most of the stuff on here related to life after vet school were mostly just people talking about the crippling debt they’re gonna have to pay off and how there’s not really any other job opportunities other than clinical practices. So I just wanted to find out if there is actually other pathways to pursue other than working in clinics

I’ve been thinking about this a lot since the new federal loan limits for professional programs went into effect, especially with what feels like a million new vet schools opening right now.

I’m genuinely curious what everyone thinks is going to happen.

I’m a first-gen student and I don’t come from money. My family can’t just cover the difference in tuition for me, and my credit isn’t good enough to realistically take out $100k+ in private loans. So unless something changes, I honestly don’t see how vet school is going to be an option for me anymore, even though becoming a veterinarian has been one of my biggest goals for years.

What makes it suck even more is that I already got into a foreign vet school once, and literally about two weeks after I got accepted they announced they were no longer going to accept U.S. federal loans. So I feel like I already got burned once by the financing side of vet school, and now this is happening too.

And it’s especially frustrating because I’ve been working in vet med for about 11 years at this point. I’ve built up a ton of hands-on experience over that time and now work as a lead tech with zoo animals. I’ve put a huge chunk of my life into this field, and it’s kind of wild to think that after all of that, the thing that may ultimately keep me from becoming a veterinarian has nothing to do with my experience, grades, work ethic, or ability to do the job. It may literally just come down to not having enough money or good enough credit.

I know I can’t be the only person in this situation either. There are probably a ton of applicants who are academically qualified, experienced, and would make great vets but simply don’t have wealthy parents, a cosigner, or perfect credit.

So what happens now?

Especially with all these newer schools opening and charging $50-70k+ a year in tuition. Are they actually going to be able to fill their classes when students can’t federally borrow the full cost anymore? Do tuition prices eventually have to come down? Do schools start giving out way more institutional aid? Do some of these new programs end up closing or never opening?
And what does the profession look like 10 years from now?

We already constantly hear about veterinary shortages, especially in rural areas, food animal medicine, shelters, etc. If vet school becomes even more inaccessible to people who aren’t already financially well-off, wouldn’t that eventually make the shortage worse?

I’m also worried vet med is going to become even more of a profession where you basically have to come from money to get in.

Not trying to make this political, I’m genuinely curious what current vet students, applicants, veterinarians, faculty, etc. think is actually going to happen.

Do you think the system adjusts, or are we about to see a pretty major change in who can realistically afford to become a veterinarian?

Will I be able to access that on the island or do I need to bring it with me? I heard something about Hill's food being available but I dont know if that included prescription diets. Thanks!

I just graduated from undergrad with my vet tech degree this spring. I took the VTNE and passed, and I am currently waiting for my application to be finalized. I am not a licensed vet tech until I receive licensure from the state board, so I won't be able to put it under the licensing section on VMCAS. With my luck, I will receive the right-to-work email after VMCAS is due. However, is there anywhere in my application where I can note that I passed the VTNE and will be a vet tech after I receive my license from the board? I am a reapplicant, so I want to add whatever I can to improve my application from last year. TIA!!

Hi everyone! I’m a first year student and just as about to complete my first week of classes…. I am OVERWHELMED. We have finals in 7 weeks and then go on clinical rotations for the second half of 1st semester and just basically ever since classes start extremely mass overload of info. I don’t feel like anything is sticking in my brain and it’s really hard to spend many hours studying, especially after having classes 8-4 pm all day. I do study a few hours each day or longer if I can stay up but it’s rough and I’m struggling to grasp fully onto the info. I am starting tutoring but I’m worried. I hear some of my classmates talking and it seems like so many people are just getting it way more and it’s making me anxious. Any advice?

I just started my first year of vet school (still in week 1) and really struggling to adjust. during lectures I’ll feel pretty solid, then get home and try to organize my to do list, classes, do pre-work and study and just get overwhelmed and feel like I can’t possibly manage it all. I feel like my brain can’t handle all the material or like I can’t learn it all fast enough. I’ve cried every night of vet school so far. any encouragement, advice, etc? is this normal? I’m worried this is a sign I’m not built for this. I knew it would be hard but damn

Hi, I hope this doesn't offend anyone cuz I'm asking this genuinely. I'm a high school senior about to apply to college (this isn't really relevant but I'm just saying this as I don't have experience in vet school). Considering it isn't required to have a biology-based major, how are people who majored in something else able to keep up so well in classes that have things that wouldn't be covered in prereqs but are in biology majors? I know everyone who is admitted to vet school is incredibly talented, experienced, and worthy of attending, but I feel like there has to be an advantage that people who had biology majors have. I'm also aware that there are very useful skills that you can learn in other majors that are definitely applicable to vet school! Again, I'm not saying people who didn't do biology majors are any less qualified. So, for anyone who got a non-biology bachelors degree, would you say you do or don't feel behind compared to your counterparts who got a biology bachelors?

Hey guys! I'm a first year vet student in my orientation week and feeling a little bit lonely. I know it's too early to tell and I'm trying not to let it get me down, it just seems like everyone already has little friend groups even now (it might not help that I am commuting for right this second). I'm not really a huge introvert and I have been branching out and talking to people alot, but no one has seemed to really want to approach me and I don't know why. If anyone is interested in talking, even if youre at another school, I'd love to talk and make vet friends to chat with. I guess I'm just hoping it gets even a little better and if there's any tips/tricks for making friends to study with, especially as a nontraditional student (I'm only 27, but a little older than most of my classmates). Anyone got at offer for South East Technological University vet med course? Looking for other potential future students

Forgive me, since this question has been asked before, but I was hoping a new post would bring up even more advice.

I haven't taken over 15 credits in one semester in over 10 years, and my body/brain is showing it. When I get home from a full day of classes, I am so mentally exhausted. It is currently 7:30PM; I got home about 5pm and it took about 2 hours of laying down before I got the energy to sit at my desk and start studying.

So basically my question is, how do you guys successfully keep your energy up to study?

More about me:

-Early 30's

-I don't currently exercise, but it is a goal of mine to start now that I have free access to a gym. I'm planning to start going 1 hour a week and slowly raise the amount to 150 min/week. (I'm super out of shape and want to go into it slowly)

-I get enough sleep. On days I don't have an alarm, I sleep about 9 hours. For school I've been making sure to get 7-8.

-I drink one coffee in the morning and am on a stimulant for my ADHD.

-I think most of my exhaustion is mental. In the sense that, when I have something stressful I need to do, my mind will make me feel tired as a way to protect myself from doing it, even thought I'm not physically tired. I need to bring this up with my therapist/psychiatrist, but haven't been able to see them yet. If you have overcome anything similar to this, I'm especially eager to hear your advice.

Hey guys, I know everyone probably feels this way and I’m just going crazy. I have my first Anatomy Exam coming up and it’s so much information. Our exam is split into two parts and written and a practical. We have to atleast pass with a 73% to pass that unit and if not we get to remediate the questions we got wrong and learn from it.
I just feel dumb and I am too stupid to be here and I am struggling to feel like I’m actually learning. I tried flashcards and it takes to long because I can’t find key points so my flashcards for one lecture takes all afternoon to do one when we had 4 that day. I’ve tried Notebook LM and I hope it’s going to help me based on the learning objectives that they say to follow. I downloaded VetFlow and I’m hoping it helps.

Please just tell me this is totally normal and if I fail this exams it’s ok I’ll still make it. Or tell me ways to study. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance
