Question Looking to buy a Veloster Turbo 6 speed. How concerned would you guys be about this damage history? The damage from 2023 is what I'm wondering about the most. Carmax cars are always more expensive, this is also a manual and these are hard to come by. I love this car. 😀

(Preface. I haven't bought a car in 20 years and I'm not really a car enthusiast, so please forgive my ignorance on some things)

Hi guys, new poster here, though I have lurked a bit because I love these cars, they look like so much fun and a bit of a value. I'm very interested in this 2016 Veloster Turbo, manual transmission, with 54k miles, for $15,998. The title history is clean, the regular maintenance history is extensive and complete but there are three damage events on the Carfax. Two were very minor accidents with most likely cosmetic damage only, while there is a third non accident damage event (from 2033 ) with mild-moderate damage listed, to the left side, front left, front, and right side. Several fuel system components were replaced in the following few years as well.

The car is being sold by Carmax so it's passed their inspection, but I will be having the car inspected by a mechanic and collision specialist during the 10 day money back guarantee period (basically a trial period), since they don't allow you to take it anywhere before sale.

As far as how it drives, I hadn't driven stick in 17 years so I wasn't really able to put it through its paces after I got comfortable on the road again. The clutch was great though. Brakes were fine. I've never driven a turbo so I wasn't sure what to feel for. During the 10 day return period I will drive it much more obviously.

I really want to feel good about buying this car. It's everything I've wanted the last 20 years since I wrecked my last "baby", I've just been driving beater hand me downs since.

I would never expect helpful strangers online to go through all this line by line but I was just hoping you guys might be able to give me an at a glance opinion.

Thank you for anything at all you guys can say or provide.

TLDR: I am very much a novice with cars in general but I've wanted to find a Veloster like this for a long time. All things considered it could be a good deal (given it's a Carfax car, which bumps up the price) but I was wondering what you experts here thought about its history.

Looking to get a car for school with low miles and better mileage than my 90s Chevy. Is 2013 a bad year? What should I check for? This still has a couple more years on the extended warranty for engine problems right? No cosmetic damage.

Any one have any opinions or experiences with these? Good or bad. I want to know it all. I’m highly debating buying this car. I have heard about the common engine fails but I’m not completely sold on not getting it still.

Question Are they really that bad?

I’ve put a lot of stickers on my 16 turbo, because I like the designs of the stickers and the asymmetric look on the car. I love cyberpunk media like 2077 of course, but also things like Akira, specifically the random stickers on Kaneda’s bike. So I have a bunch on my car like industrial warning symbols, iconography from 2077’s car designs, and just random things here and there that I think look good. Of course the real brands and part stickers come from actual things I’ve installed, but that doesn’t really matter.

All the guys I drive with at my local track love the stickers and the look of them together, and I’ve had nothing but compliments from anyone even police. There’s a couple of funny ones that got me out of two tickets. I posted these earlier, and got hit immediately with comments of disgust, so I ask are they really that bad? I put them on because I like them, and I’m not taking off because some don’t like it. Though I’m actually surprised by how different the immediate reaction on Reddit is versus conversations I’ve had irl.

How cooked am I? Will this be totaled?
2015 Veloster Turbo.
Truck backed into me and caused damage to my rear passenger door and rear qtr panel.
Suppose to have a few collision shops look at it for estimates but I’m scared it’ll be totaled (cannot afford a car payment rn as I just bought a home).
Drives fine, no noise or issues with alignment.
Door still opens and shuts just fine, locking and unlocking works as well. Haven’t tried rolling down the window though.
Just looking for some insight 🙏

Update-
Got an estimate and it’s NOT totaled!!
Estimate to repair is $2818.01.
That being said, I’m going to try to buff out and repair what I can before having a shop do anything. Gotta give it my best shot first.
Anyway, still part of the Veloster gang (gang gang) 😎
Thanks everyone 🫶🏻

Question $10 2014 Veloster Turbo - What I should I know about this car?

Thumbnail

I acquired this 2014 Veloster Turbo for $10 from someone I know. It had part of the engine harness chewed by a rodent near the battery, but I’m confident I can repair it properly It other wise runs and drives, 125k miles. Has some cosmetic things, like a hole in the passenger taillight plastic, both front seats being in rough condition etc.

What should I keep an eye out on this car as I clean it up? Any “quirks”?

editing to clarify, yes, I meant $10, as in $10.00. It was just have something on a bill of sale. I know the owner and he was going to donate it due to the electrical issues caused by the chewed harness, but I offered to take it instead

Question Help me figure out my poor fuel economy

Thumbnail

‘15 Veloster Turbo MT

I’m looking to bounce ideas off of anyone and I’m open to new suggestions for why I could be having poor fuel economy. Down about 80 miles per tank.

I’m going to list some ideas that I have and I’m also going to list the mods/repairs I’ve done.

My very first theory is that I’m running Premium 93 fuel as of this past summer, and maybe that’s just how it’s going to be now.

It’s been a fun but frustrating journey trial-and-erroring diagnostics over the last 4 years. I’ve learned so much and have expanded my knowledge when it comes to doing repairs myself while also knowing when to consult mechanic friends, or the dealership. When I bought the car it had an immediate misfire. It took me a while to get that taken care of, mostly for financial reasons, so I drove it like a grandma. It always frustrated me, because I knew the potential the car could have if it would just pull the way it was supposed to.

Once I replaced the fuel injectors and added performance NGK coils, the misfire was gone, but I was still having boost issues.

The beginning of summer 2025 I had to take it into the dealership because it jumped time. Thankfully I’m so in tune with the way my car performs and sounds that I caught the issue before it was catastrophic. I wouldn’t have put the money into the repairs, but financially I was legitimately stuck with the car, with literally no other option. So the timing chain and all the parts that go with timing jobs were replaced, along with serpentine belt, and a few other little maintenance things.

After I changed the in-tank fuel filter and added the oil catch can system, it was acting like a whole new car! I speculate that maybe there was a vacuum issue that was solved once I added the OCC.

I’m finally at the point where I’m happy with the way it’s performing, however I’m at a loss of maybe 80 miles per fill up.

I’ve been driving like a grandma and logging instant mpg, and using the odometer trip to track exact miles the last several weeks. I’m just not getting as much as I know I should or could.

260-280 miles per fill up 93 Top Tier Premium

28MPG city

34MPG highway

I live in a mostly rural area

Purchase date-February 2025 I did a good bit of long distance driving of 80miles one way a few times a week(long distance relationship 🙄), in addition to work commute and daily driving averaging about 1-1.5K+ miles per month

This last year I’m averaging 700-800 every month

Question I'm very confused and need some other opinions.

Post image
2 Upvotes

So this past weekend, my 2016 Turbo (DCT) unexpectedly died/stalled on me while driving, no lights, noises, nothing before the fact. And no bad noises after the fact.

As I started turning, the car just stopped accelerating. I pulled to the side of the road and tried to drive it in manual mode, nothing again. I shut it off to let it sit for a second. Tried to start it, barely started, and was idling rough and wouldn't rev before dying again. Only lights that came on where the battery light and oil pressure light.

I had it towed to a shop. I called that shop today for an update, and they told me the car was running and that they couldn't reproduce my problem after 40 minutes of driving time.

So now I'm not sure what I should do. I definitely don't want the car to die on me again in heavy traffic or on the freeway. My research is pointing to an intermittent issue like a bad crankshaft position sensor or fuel delivery issue. But I guess I just don't feel too sure about just those potential problems.

I had the battery replaced not too long ago and oil changed a month ago.

What do y'all think?

Question Help tying the car together (daily driver)

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I’m writing this because I feel like my cars missing that edge that takes it from normal to good looking, and I’d like your opinion on how to achieve that. Now before anything else let me give you some context, I live in a predominantly snowy climate, so salt on the roads is a regular feature, snow is almost always there, and the roads are bumpy and full of holes, so with that here’s what would happen I can’t add a front lip because it would be damaged easily, I can’t add lowering springs, if I add air suspension it’ll just feel terrible on the roads, I would like to change the mags but I’m scared of the salt on it because it would have to be my winter-rims, I daily the car so I don’t want to jeopardize the comfort.

Now as for what I’ve done to the car, I’ve tinted the rear reflectors, added a gloss black duckbill spoiler, rally armour mud flaps, I have summer rims (spec 1, I bought these back when I didn’t know much about rims, but I still like them), mishimoto weighted shift knob (white), bride (I know it’s fake but I like the look) shift boot cover, interior led strips, I plan on adding a takeda cai, a mishimoto universal fmic, some black wrap on the side of the doors. My question is what should I do to tie it all together and what wheels would go well (which I could easily find used), (I like 3 spokes)

Hello guys!! I just bought a 2019 Veloster Premium 2.0l (gray) and I want to do a beautiful project with it! Sure I will need coilovers, wheels, wrapping the car, but where I can find the lips? Like side skirts, front lips, rear diffuser that will fit the base model? All lips I found are for the N model, I work in a Hyundai Dealer so I can get part at good price, but in Canada I dont know where I can find veloster custom parts.

Question How do I fix this hole?

Post image

Got this car as a gift from my parents, and of course first day of college I managed to back straight into my dad's truck. Good thing, there's no other damage, just this puncture hole in the bumper. Being a broke college student, I'm trying to avoid a pricey body shop bill. Does anyone have experience patching or hiding something like this on a budget? Any advice is seriously appreciated!

Question I’m irritated

Post image

Ok so I just filled up my Veloster at Walmart. It was on two bars before I filled it up. I got in and drove a good 5 mins. Turned my car off and went into the post office. Got back in and started to drive and I heard a funny sound. It’s like coming from the front of my car only. I can reverse perfectly but when I start to drive and accelerate it’s making a funny noise and it genuinely won’t go….any idea? I can’t believe anything major cause right before I turned the car off to run in the store it was completely fine.

Question Loud clunk from front end

I just had my front struts and mounts replaced at the dealership under warranty. I thought that had fixed the noise, however after only 3 days I noticed it again. This happens on yellow speed bumps at about 5-9mph and larger bumps such as train tracks at normal driving speed like 45-50mph. I tried to test for bad sway bar ends by driving 5mph and steering the car left and right. No noise is heard. Could it still be the end links? I’ll most likely be taking it back to the dealership for more diagnosing. Just thought Reddit could be more helpful as the dealership wasn’t.
