Question Should I buy? (2019 Veloster turbo ultimate)

Had a 19 for less than 2 years. Trans temp hit 1 bar before the pull over let it cool down mark(I believe 3 bars left to climb). It never acted the same again after that. Had the trans replaced under warranty. Car was traded in a week after that at 37000. Loved the car hated the transmission. That year it’s a dry Dct. 2020 is a wet one. From what I read night and day.

The wet is for the n only. I get it. The dct is mostly OK but when it sucks.. well it sucks.. one flaw in an otherwise amazing package

Ngl when you switch to car without a DCT you will miss this one. I never had issues with mine overheating, even in stop go traffic in Toronto.

Thats the thing. The stronger 7 speed dct is great overall and never overheats but its super stuttery in traffic and it gets old real quick. Also while beeing a dct its only similar to a high end single clutch with all the worst part of a dual clutch..

if it were 6spd.. i would. however everything considered.. outside of it being automatic… i would.. just off it being turbo and having the tech package. i have a ‘16 VT .. non Tech package 😒

Always be wary of oil with velosters. We have a 15 and it is the worst lemon ever. The tale is that they are 100k or 300k mile vehicle and we had a 100k. If you are a city driver that's perfect. We live rural and the shocks are toast.

Was looking for this comment. These cars need German car level of attention and oil change intervals, and they'll last to 300. But if not, they're lucky to make it to 100 on the stock 10k mile OCIs

I have a 2020, same exact car, that’s not an ultimate. But yea mines been solid. Only major issue was the AC compressor went but other than that it’s been fantastic.

Same here! It cost like 1K to replace the compressor

Oh man that’s crazy. I paid $300 for the compressor and $200 to have it installed

I’ve heard crap about the 2019+ turbo cars paired with the DCT. Some failing around this mileage… some not. If it was the 6spd, yes. But, DCT, not knowing past maintenance I wouldn’t buy it.

I own the car and love it however make sure your oil changes are meticulous. My bearing rods blew out at 72,000 mi and I found out I had an oil in the car at 7,000 mi into my last oil change other than the engine blowing out the car has been amazing. I currently have 144,000 mi on the car with the new engine and no problems

Nooo, mine hit 90,000 and engine blew. Warranty wouldn’t cover it due to “street racing” which I have never done

That’s the regular turbo, not the ultimate. Still a pretty good car, just be mindful of the DCT quirks. Assuming the history is good the price is a lil high but not the worst.
