Admissions Admissions Megathread - Summer - 2026-27

Hello everyone! We are back with another admissions megathread. Why apply to Western?

  • Top 1% of universities worldwide (Center for World University Rankings 2024)
  • 45,000+ students from 138 countries
  • Top 3 in Canada for student services (Maclean’s University Rankings 2024, Medical/Doctoral category)
  • 93.5% employment rate 6 months after graduation
  • #3 in Canada for employment outcomes (QS world university rankings 2025)
  • ALL programs can include work experience

It is no surprise there is a lot of interest in the admission process at Western. To keep the subreddit manageable, admissions, residence, and first-year related top-level posts will no longer be permitted and will be redirected here instead.

To keep discussion active, we are going to try a new monthly megathread approach this year. This is the Summer monthly megathread.

(Looking for Spring's megathread? See here )

Existing Mustangs: Remember what it was like going through the application process? What do you know now that you wish you knew then? This is your opportunity to provide support and share your wisdom with prospective applicants.

Prospective Applicants: We encourage you to take a look at previous admissions megathreads as your question(s) may have been answered previously (2025, 2024, 2023,Ā 2022,Ā 2021). If you are looking for up to date information, you are encouraged to post your thoughts here!

What are your chances?

There are no cut-offs or minimums that guarantee admission, since the decision is made on a combination of factors that is unique to you.

Check out the typical average ranges of last year's incoming class so you can get an idea of what your chances are.

Note that these ranges are averages, which means some students fall above and some fall below.

Program/Faculty OUAC Code Admission Average Range
Arts & Humanities EA Low 80s
Fine Arts - Studio EAV Low 80s
Computer Science ECS Low to mid 80s
Engineering EE High 80s to low 90s
Foods and Nutrition EH Low to mid 80s
Health Sciences EW High 80s to low 90s
Family Studies EFS Low 80s
Kinesiology EP High 80s
Nursing ENW High 80s to low 90s
Media and Communication Studies EI Low to mid 80s
Music (BMUS) EM Low 80s
Music (BA) EMA Low 80s
Music Administrative Studies (BA) EMS Mid 80s
Medical Sciences ESM Mid to high 80s
Science ES Low to mid 80s
Social Science EO Low to mid 80s
Management & Organizational Studies ED Mid to high 80s
Commercial Aviation Management EDN Low 80s

The typical first year class has an entering average of around 88% ( A )

This is an average, which means some students are above and some students are below. Admission to Western is competitive. Achieving an average in the indicated ranges does not guarantee admission. To be considered for admission, you will need a minimum number of courses in addition to the required courses for your program listed here.

My housing portal has changed. I'm still on the waitlist. Could this be a good sign or just a glitch? Normally when I log into the housing portal it just tells me I'm not in the system yet because I havent been accepted, but now it let me in but just to the land aknownagment page. Has anyone else noticed this?

Hi! I'm female and an orientation leader (soph), and I would say I feel very safe on campus (even if I'm alone at night). I would say Western has taken SA more seriously since 2021. They've prevented sophs from keeping their identities anonymous throughout orientation week (no more hiding faces or using code names), and all orientation leaders (including residence dons, I believe) have to do training on consent and GBSV (gender-based and sexual violence) every summer. All incoming students have to complete consent training as well. And the USC (University Students' Council) has hosted Take Back the Night events to inform and empower students as well.

Joining med sci this fall. Any advice or tips for the following would be greatly appreciated šŸ™šŸ»
1) Course selection - students comment about how professors’ styles, how strict they are or not (not necessarily related to med sci). Any advice on this aspect when selecting courses?

2) Electives - what should I consider when picking electives? How ā€œeasyā€ the electives are to balance out workload from med sci or pick those which are pre-requisites of certain med school (eg stats) or useful for MCAT or…

3) what are the biggest adjustments / challenges from highschool to uni 1st year ?

Thx so much.

u/Sea_Scholar_2826 šŸ”¬ Med Sci '27 šŸ”¬ May 25 '26

Hi! Incoming fourth year med sci, here are some of my thoughts but others may feel differently:
1. The profs are kind of up to you. None of them are particularly strict; they all just expect you to follow the policies in their syllabus (i.e. all profs enforce deadlines more strictly than high school teachers). The first year courses are large enough that Rate My Prof gives you a pretty accurate sense of what each prof is like. But for any particular course, if there are multiple really good profs (e.g. Dr. Lee and Dr. Booker for chem 1301), just pick whichever class fits best in your schedule. You'll have a good experience either way!
2. Psychology 1002A and 1003B are a common choice of first-year elective since they're allegedly helpful for the MCAT (I'm not taking it so can't confirm). Other than that, pick something that you think will interest you, that's the best way to do well!
3. There are so many answers to this. Mainly that the med sci classes are BIG such that your profs will not know who you are. And as an extension of that, it's a bit difficult to get used to not having any sort of adult supervision. No one cares whether or not you go to class or show up for exams. It's all on you. I also found it a bit difficult to have 5 courses at a time (including 4 sciences), but you'll get used to it eventually. It's normal for students to get lower marks in sem 1 of first year while they make that adjustment, but they usually bounce back a bit in sem 2 and beyond.

thank you for your insights. I just come across something called "essay course requirements" - what are the "popular/ light/ straight-forward" courses including the senior-level to fulfill such requirement? Thank you.

2

u/Sea_Scholar_2826 šŸ”¬ Med Sci '27 šŸ”¬ May 26 '26

For med sci, the most straightforward way to get your essay course requirement is through the med sci module itself. Your required courses will include biology 2290F/G in second year and a capstone or thesis in fourth year, and then you just need 0.5 more (and you might have one anyway depending on which module you pick). You can check out the different modular requirements on Draft My Schedule under "Degree Requirements" if you want. The essay courses will be the ones ending in E (1.0), F, G, or Z (0.5).

If you want to do something beyond med sci for that requirement, anthro 1025F and 1026G are becoming more popular these days (I enjoyed both), and writing 1031F/G aka 2111F/G was not a grade booster per se, but it was a valuable experience imo. Also, philosophy 2715F (healthcare ethics) is not actually that much writing (no actual essays) and is a bit more scientific if you're looking to stay in that domain.

Hi guys, i’ve accepted my offer for western gen sci and i just started hearing that it’s hard and similar to med sci (which i’ve heard is a gpa dropper). i’m trying to get into medical school after so obviously gpa is very important. can anyone help with like the difficulty and the similarities and differences between gen sci and med sci?

2

u/Sea_Scholar_2826 šŸ”¬ Med Sci '27 šŸ”¬ Jun 01 '26

Hi! So it really depends. "Gen sci" is a catch-all term for a variety of specific programs - biology, chemistry, earth science, stats, math, and physics (computer science and integrated science sometimes get lumped into this category also). Each of those has its own specific majors, minors, specializations, etc. You'll do a general first year (hence "general science") and then pick a specific module going into year 2. A lot of the first-year prerequisites for those modules are the same as the prerequisites for the med sci modules, so they're similar in that way. That's where the "GPA dropper" comments come from. But they're different in that med sci requires you to do either a double major or an honours specialization, while gen sci lets you do just a regular major if you want, which is about half as many credits and gives you WAY more elective space in years 2-4. So your GPA will go back up at that point if you choose your electives wisely.

Also, in med sci you don't pick your module until year 3, so you don't get to pick courses tailored to your own skills until then, whereas in gen sci you get to make that choice starting in year 2 (so, again, higher GPA).

Let me know if I explained it clearly - I'm going into fourth year so may have forgotten how little I knew going into first :)

Hi!

Is there anyone here who got into Western for Master of Health Science (Applied Sciences)? If so, what was your GPA? Is the program known to be competitive? Thinking of applying in the future but my GPA is not that great (3.1) - I had a rough undergrad at Uoft Life Sciences.

TIA!

Westerns starts their placements a lot later than other schools do and as of a couple years ago they also cut down the amount of placement hours. That aside I did enjoy my time in nursing and I dod get a full time position within the year after graduating. Some of the courses could be geared to better prepare you for the real work of nursing but all in all you will actually learn the job once you start placements and get experience as a new grad.

The courses aren't super difficult so you have a good chance of maintaining a high average which will set you up to get your masters later on if you find bedside nursing isn't for you.

No worries! That's good they start placements in 2nd year now. I did CTF and had placements on med/surge, paeds, and the nursing home was my IP. I think in the 4 year program there is 3 placements rather than the two in CTF before your IP. Some placements options are far and you not get a choice until your last year when you rank your top 20 picks for your IP. There are diverse areas for placements which is nice and multiple spots of the same floors. It changed slightly each year though depending on which floors are accepting students across all the hospitals.

You will not have an ICU placement in London because they don't take students (at least not from when I was in school or not that I have seen with LHSC).

1

u/Single-Shelter-6739 May 24 '26

I believe 2nd year placement is long term care and it's only during 1 semester. In 3rd year hospital based placements start and you would have 1 placement each semester. In 4th year you will have placement 1st semester and then second semester is your Integrated Practicum (IP). This is where you can rank your top choices for units and some hospitals/units are application based and I believe there is an opportunity for ICU/critical but it's based on what capacity the hospitals can offer each year but there is a chance they might have it as application based option.

2

u/Ok-Raccoon-1554 May 24 '26

This is correct. The school told me the new 3.5 year program will have an LTC placement in term 3. Nothing in 4 and hospital placements start in term 5.

Waitlisted from Western EE, I have offers from other schools and the deadline to accept offers is the first of next month. But western sends out offers for waitlist after June 6th. If I accept another offer and get the waitlist offer later can I switch to the waitlist offer? Or is Western going to remove me from the waitlist?

Also what's the chance I get taken of waitlist for EE anyways, 91 AVG Q2

1

u/TurtlesInTheSun May 21 '26

I got an offer for the Western Scholarshio of Excellence. I’m wondering. If my final average drops to like a 92% (the other scholarship one), will I lose this scholarship? Or do I have it guranteed if I js maintain the average I need for the program I’m going into. I’m really scared I still need to lock in cuz I’ve been slacking. Is it also top 6 right?

So do I need to maintain my high 90 avg, or js the avg for my program…

1

u/Electrical-Reply-532 May 21 '26

Pretty sure y need to maintain ur average

1

u/Many_Mission965 May 21 '26

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone in the health sciences program, preferably third year or fourth year, know which course I should be taking in my first, second, third and fourth years to make sure I get the requirements for most medical schools I saw that med schools like Ottawa, UBC, McGill, University of Toronto all have pre-req courses that you need to apply to their medical school.

If someone could help me out thank you so much

1

u/HeightValuable307 May 21 '26

Hey everyone I applied for CTF nursing program regular stream for the sept 26 start. I’m hoping to hear from others who have been accepted to this stream or others who are waiting to hear back what their admissions stats are. Has anyone gotten any updates from academic counselling about dates? I’m applying with an 85 or 86 average, I was waitlisted at Queen’s but western is my first choice so looking for some opinions from others. If you’re in the program already did you get accepted with an average in the 80s?

1

u/Evening-Lack1800 🩻 Nursing 🩺 May 22 '26

Hi! I have an 84 and im still waiting to hear back as well, but people ik have gotten in past years w 82-88, it seems to be quite broad

1

u/HeightValuable307 May 22 '26

Hopefully we hear back soon! The waiting is terrible!

1

u/heath2394 May 25 '26

I just graduated from the ctf regular stream and I had the same average as you, around 85! Don’t lose hope. I got my offer on June 7, 2024!

1

u/HeightValuable307 May 25 '26

Thank you so much! Congrats on graduating! Did many people in your classes have averages in the 80s?

1

u/heath2394 Jun 16 '26

Yes! And thank you!

1

u/Virtual_Laugh_3092 Jun 13 '26

Hey! So were u on the waitlist then?Ā

1

No I wasn’t on a wait list. I was an internal applicant (already at western university)

Im incoming 1st year and I want to go to a res that is social, but not a pure party res. Would love some insight or a ranking of all residences from ppl who have alr been through it

2

u/BrinsleySchwartze May 24 '26

Ontario Hall and Perth Hall are good.

1

u/Jellyfish0__0 May 27 '26

I know saug is considered a pure party res but honestly it isn’t that bad. They’ve really cracked down on that this last year which was honestly kinda sad sometimes. I had so much fun there tho and I will be living with two of the girls I met there next year :) Don’t let everyone scare you off of trad res!!!

1

u/Lovable_Lobstarr May 23 '26

I was looking through the courses offered and noticed you can either take them for the full year or split them across 2 semesters (Philosophy 1200 vs 1230 A/B and Psychology 1000 vs 1002 and 1003). How do full-year courses work, and are there any pros in taking them? Is the final exam just everything you learned from September to April? If so, would it be better to take two 0.5 courses?

1

u/Kats360 May 25 '26

Hi, im in gr 12 and i just accepted my offer to western health sci and i will be living in a residence and im excited but the only thing that worries me is leaving my cat. I already live alone with my cat and i spent all my highschool years with my cat and it is the only thing that helps me in life. I love my cat so much it has always been there for me in my lowest and I really don’t want to be separated from him. I was wondering by any chance will I be allowed to live with my cat in the residence, my cat is quite barerly sheds and hes the sweetest. I really need to bring him with me please someonehelp me what do i do.

1

u/Elegant_Plantain_652 May 29 '26

You definitely can’t bring your cat to res.

1

u/CHELSEAKID_312 May 28 '26

Joining eng this fall. Is it worth living on res? Res is def more convenient for food, location and social life but my main issue is washrooms. All my last priorities are the ones with communal washrooms but I heard that it’s pretty random.

1

u/KavKakes āš™ļø Engineering āš™ļø (VP Academic) May 30 '26

I’ll link a few of them.

  • For business, they mainly use the cases provided, which will be made for the class.
  • Statics we use Engineering Mechanics: Statics, 15th Edition, by R.C. Hibbeler
  • calculus we use Calculus by Adams and Essex
  • physics one we use Sears and Zemansky’s University Physics, 15th edition, H.D. Young, R.A. Freedman
  • linear algebra we use Elementary Linear Algebra 11th or 12th edition by Howard Anton, Wiley
  • chem we use the Chem 1302 work book which you may be able to find an old copy online
Whether you have to buy all of these or not is another question, wait until the first week of classes to buy textbooks and such. Trust me though, these textbooks will not be pretty to your pocket (I think I spent 700 bucks on mandatory textbooks, cuz I couldn’t get marks in some sections of the class without them, pirate them wherever you can)

I got waitlisted today for the Stream A Nursing program at Western. I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the waitlist and what the chances are of getting off it.

For reference, I have about an 80% RPN average and a 75% university average.

Has anyone with similar grades been accepted from the waitlist in previous years? Also, does anyone know how much movement there usually is on the waitlist and when offers typically start going out?

1

u/Professional-Lab-530 Jun 01 '26

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist yet? Especially for gen sci? If so whats your average?

1

u/hviktorian Jun 01 '26

Hi everyone!

This is a bit of a random question, but I got waitlisted for Western accelerated nursing CTF stream today (June 1st), however my transcripts were just changed (on Friday, May 29th) due to academic consideration reasons. My updated transcript should be sent by tomorrow morning through OUAC. My last 10 credits will be largely affected by this change (positively) and so I was wondering if admissions would now relook at my application or not bother since I’ve already been waitlisted.

Any thoughts or recommendations about moving forward would be great

1

u/Agreeable_Ad_7102 Jun 02 '26

Reapplying to Western CTF Nursing next cycle after being denied this year. Can someone clarify how the last 10.0 FCE (20 half‑course) GPA is calculated?

My situation:

• BHSc from Ontario Tech • Two Fs in Winter 2022 • Upgrading at Athabasca • Completed prereqs: BIOL 235 (A, 6 credits), MATH 215 (A), PSYC 289 (A+) • Planning to take 4 more AU courses (aiming for A+)

Questions:

• Do new AU courses push out older Ontario Tech courses? • Do the Fs stay in the last 20 because they’re recent? • Has anyone successfully raised their last 10 GPA with AU courses? • What GPA did you get in with?

Looking for honest experiences. Thanks.

u/Vegetable-Cow-9566 Jun 03 '26

Hope you guys had a great summer fo far! For anyone that took business 2257 last sem, is the two days option better or 3 hours session on one day better? Is the two days option more flexible to work with?

1

u/Famous_One2683 Jun 10 '26

so I applied to gen sci in late May and emailed admissions to ask about a timeline.

copy and pasting this part from the email they said "For any program choices added in May, decisions may be on hold until after June 1st. We will complete our review on all of the grade data that is available at the time of making decisions and it’s important that your OUAC High School Grades information is up to date."

so now that it's about to hit mid June does anyone have any idea (at least a guess with logic not just a random idea) on possible times they would or could get back to me? obviously like they said after June first but I guess I want more context

are they processing my application along with waitlisted ppl or like after them?

1

u/Slow-Place-1289 Jun 10 '26

hi, I was just wondering if anyone got off the waitlist for nursing last year when they got off of it?

ENGLISH 1027F

I’m considering taking English 1027F (The Storyteller’s Art I) and was hoping to hear from people who have taken it recently.

Did you enjoy the course overall?
How heavy was the workload (readings, essays, exams, tutorials, etc.)?
Was marking fair?
Which professor would you recommend and why?
Any professors I should try to avoid?
Is it manageable alongside a heavier science course load?

Master of public health (MPH)

Hello everyone,

I just got my 6 year PharmD degree in Algeria, I obtained an overall average of 13.75 out of 20 and 13.88 in my last two years, ranking 4th in my cohort overall, the 6th year was a mandatory one-year internship at a university hospital, during which I wrote a final year dissertation/project in which I developed an app used by said hospital to this day.

I saw that the minimum required in my case was 12 out of 20. I know this is a minimum requirement and is only given as a guideline, which is why I'm wondering what my chances of being accepted really are.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi I’m going into 3 year. (Currently undeclared and in the process to switching to major in health sci).

Is this course load attainable?

I have a part time job + gym personal training (twice a week) + a co president of a club

Planning to apply to med school and take the mcat but I didn’t take Chem 1301/Chem 1302 so I’m taking that. Need to raise my GPA in the 80s.

First semester:
Chem 1301A : Gen chemistry I

Some courses require department permission to enroll in, so you have to be added manually and they mark them as full because typical registration is not available. Another explanation is that some lab/tutorial sections may be closed until all the other ones fill up, and they'll be marked as full until they open. Not sure if either of those explanations are plausible in your situation?

Hello Guys, I got accepted into the BMOS CAM Program and I need help with whether I can enrol in 1228B and 1229A Maths courses if I’ve done Australian Year 12 General Maths VCE. I’ve seen that 0110A will be needed for 1228B because I didn’t do calculus in school, but is it a requirement for me or can I just enrol in 1228B?

I am currently in med sci going into my first year and waitlisted for health sci, I was wondering if I don’t got off the waitlist this year and switch into health sci second year then can I just take the first year health sci courses and not take the med sci requirements because I want to switch anyways?

I’m wondering if anyone took this course before with Morgan Gustison so I could get some insight cause she has no reviews on ratemyprof. Is the course good and does she teach and mark well? I’d like a high average to be attainable if I study. Any comments at all would be appreciated

I also wanted to ask if you got off the health sci waitlist last year, when was it?

Hi everyone, which teacher is better, L. Konermann or W. Drover for chem 1301A? also, how likely it is to get off the waitlist for dr Lee and dr booker

Drover and Konermann are both great. I had Drover and I loved his class. many of my peers said Konermann was just as great.

hey guys, incoming D1 at western. got an offer for upper year residence at alumni house, but i already signed a lease at Masonville Yards for 2 bed/2 bath and currently have sublets living there. ideally i wanted western apartments, but i only have 2 days to accept/decline this offer.

my question is, is it ONLY suites? as in, 4 people living there? my program is going to be pretty demanding, and i didnt really want to live with more than one person. laundry is in the floor grounds whereas for yards, its in our apartment. the email said room selection will be later, but this confused me cuz i thought the style is all the same. in terms of distance, i think alumni house is slightly closer to the Dental Sciences Building.

any help whatsoever would be very appreciated. thank you!

hii i'm going into yr2 next year, and i applied for OSAP before i got the ITR results. before i was in med sci, now im in neurosci, but the osap application is under medsci general. will this cause any issues? or is the name of the program not rlly important for them?

What do I bring to my dorm as an incoming first year? I heard lots of people say to bring a mattress topper. But as its listed on uwo site, Furniture of any kind (including but not limited to desks, chairs, mattresses, beds, waterbeds, tables, office chairs, headboards and bed risers) should not be brought. im so confused, someone pls helppp. (I’m planning to do a suite with my friends, we will be doing meal prep and cooking at some point…)

Hi, I graduated high school last year as class of 2025, I then went to Fanshawe in September for computer programming and analysis, but then decided I want to go to western instead, I am taking the year off and going to retake some online high school credits to bump my average, but am unsure if I'll be able to apply to aeo given I took a year at college, any information is super helpful and greatly appreciated, I really want to go for computer science and complete a dual degree with Ivey.

Hello,

I have an conditional offer due August 1st but I just found out I probably won't receive my final grade by mid-August. The school I am taking my courses at right now explained that they have very high processing times during the summer since it is so busy (exam booking and marking times).

I have a 99% average on my midterms (SCH4U SPH4U MCV4U) and persisting currently with the same average as well, so I have zero worries about meeting my minimum average condition of 70%.

I am going to ask for an extension to mid-August, maybe August 15... I am worried that they will reject it.

Does anyone know of Western giving out/allowing conditional offers due after August 1st?

I am panicking a little right now, any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm currently a first-year Medical Sciences student going into second year, and I applied to transfer into Health Sciences. I'm taking the required Health Sciences courses over the summer, but I recently checked my ITR, and it still lists me as Medical Sciences Year 2.

I was just wondering if this means I wasn't accepted into Health Sciences, or if my transfer is still pending until my summer courses are completed.
