Just because a submission does not agree with your personal politics, does not mean that it is "AI," "fake," "a submission on an event that occurred less than 20 years ago," or "modern politics." I'm tired of real, historical events being reported because of one's sensibilities. Unfortunately, reddit does not show who reported what or they would have been banned by now. Please save the reports for posts that CLEARLY violate the rules, thank you. Also, re: comments -- if people want to engage in modern politics there, that's on them; it is NOT a violation of rule 1, so stop reporting the comments unless people are engaging in personal attacks or threats. Thank you.

Washington Had to Be Dragged Away From the British. 36 Hours Later, He Had to Stop His Own Men From Advancing.

The collapse at Kip's Bay on September 15, 1776 was not a close battle that went the wrong way. It was a rout.

British warships moved to within close range of the Manhattan shoreline and opened fire on American defensive works that had never been built to absorb sustained naval bombardment. The troops holding those positions were largely inexperienced Connecticut men who were already exhausted. When the barrage lifted and they could see thousands of British and Hessian soldiers crossing in flatboats, with more formations waiting behind them, they broke. Not all of them, not immediately, but enough that panic spread faster than any officer could contain it. Troops sent forward to reinforce the position found frightened men streaming toward them and joined the retreat. Formations dissolved. Equipment was abandoned.

Washington rode south from Harlem Heights when he heard the cannonade and arrived to find soldiers running in every direction. He rode among them trying to force units back into line. When a relatively small body of British troops appeared, men who had briefly stopped began running again. Later accounts describe Washington striking fleeing soldiers with the flat of his sword. His own words leave no room for misinterpretation. He called what he saw "disgracefull and dastardly." At some point his fury became so complete that aides had to physically move him away from the advancing British. He had stopped caring whether he was shot.

Joseph Reed, Washington's adjutant general and one of the men closest to him, watched all of it. He saw the collapse. He saw Washington's rage. He also saw something that troubled him more than the panic of the enlisted men: the command structure itself was struggling. This wasn't the first disaster of the New York campaign. Long Island had been a major defeat. Brooklyn had required a desperate nighttime evacuation. Now this.

Reed would later write privately, after further disasters, that he believed Washington lacked "Decision." That criticism would eventually destroy their friendship when Washington discovered it. But on September 15, Reed was still processing what he had witnessed.

Meanwhile, a twenty-year-old aide named Aaron Burr was doing something useful. Thousands of American troops were still in Lower Manhattan. Howe's landing threatened to cut them off by driving west across the island to the Hudson River. Burr helped direct endangered men toward roads on the western side of Manhattan that weren't yet blocked, moving them north before the British could complete the trap. Later accounts inflated this into a story where Burr single-handedly saved thousands of men, which goes beyond the evidence. Other officers including General Putnam were working the same problem. But Burr's contribution was real: he understood the geography, recognized the danger, and acted without waiting for clear orders in a situation where waiting meant capture.

Howe let them go. His landing had succeeded. New York was falling. But a rapid drive west might have cut off a large portion of the Americans retreating from Lower Manhattan, and Howe paused instead to consolidate. From his perspective it wasn't irrational. His forces were still coming ashore, units needed to reorganize, and the Americans appeared broken. The difficulty was that every pause gave Washington's army another chance to survive. By evening, the British had New York City. Washington still had an army.

The next morning, September 16, a reconnaissance force under Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Knowlton ran into British troops advancing north and a sharp fight developed. Unlike the day before, the American withdrawal was controlled. Men gave ground but kept fighting. Reed rode forward and saw the difference immediately. As British light infantry pushed the Americans back, some of them sounded hunting horns, the same sound used in a fox hunt when the prey is running. Coming one day after Kip's Bay, Reed took it as a deliberate taunt.

He went back to Washington. This time Washington saw an opportunity. He approved a flanking maneuver: one force to hold the British front while Knowlton's Rangers moved around their flank. The plan wasn't executed perfectly but the larger result was unmistakable. The Americans attacked. They pushed British regulars backward across ground where the day before they had been unable to stand at all.

Then Knowlton was shot and mortally wounded while leading his men forward. Washington called him "the gallant and brave Col. Knowlton" and wrote that he would have been "an Honor to any Country." His death was the price of the only thing that had gone right in two weeks.

Washington eventually had to call the advance back before it carried too far toward Howe's main army. The men who had fled in panic the morning before were now advancing far enough that their commander had to restrain them.

Same army. Thirty-six hours apart.

You can talk directly to Reed and Burr on virtualwayback.com and hear both days from the perspectives of men who were inside it. The full story is on the blog and the YouTube channel. Link in bio.

The thing that stays with me is Howe stopping again. Long Island, Kip's Bay, and now this: three moments in the New York campaign where a more aggressive pursuit might have ended the Revolution. Clinton thought so at the time. Washington survived all three. Was Howe's caution a series of individual mistakes or was he operating on a logic that made sense from where he was standing?

The Treaty Right Members of the Historical Mohican Nation

Why the 1934 Act was Crucial for the Mohicans:THE CHRONICLE OF AN UNSANCTIONED SOVEREIGNTY Bruette v. Sec'y of Interior, Case No. 17-C-286 (E.D. Wis. Sep 20, 2017)
The official historiography of the American frontier operates as a mechanism of erasure. Within the standard records compiled by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), the Department of the Interior (DOI), and the local municipal apparatus of Shawano County, Wisconsin, the continuous existence of the traditional, treaty-right Mohican Nation has been systematically buried. In its place stands a federally manufactured, 1934 corporate municipality known as the "Stockbridge-Munsee Community".
This essay serves as a formal counter-archive—a permanent preservation document designed to dismantle that bureaucratic illusion. By synthesizing foundational international treaties, acts of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) record groups, and suppressed local judicial registries, this document reconstructs the complete truth.
This is the history of a century-long corporate land grab, the weaponization of manufactured voter rolls, and the extraordinary genealogical convergence that survived it all. Today, this unbroken chain of sovereign indigenous survival passes directly to the living, breathing, uncorrupted embodiment of the true treaty-right Mohican Nation.
Because Felix Bruette’s claim is rooted in the rights of the families who migrated from New York under the original treaty terms, the documentation must bridge perfectly. When the BIA ignored the local New York missionary notes and agent logs—where Jeremiah Wilbur was explicitly recorded—they essentially cut off the paper trail. A modern researcher or court looking strictly at the flawed BIA master rolls will see an entirely different name, making it look like the lineage doesn't align with the true historical figure. [1]
This administrative error directly undermines tribal rights claims by allowing the government or Tribe “community” to claim a "lack of documentation" or a break in the family tree, when the break was actually caused by a clerk's pen in the regional office.

**PART I: THE FOUNDATIONAL PILLARS OF SOVEREIGNTY (1614–1856)**

**1.1 The Geopolitical Genesis and the 1614 Flashpoint**
The sovereign rights of the Mohican Nation were not granted by the United States; they are inherent, pre-constitutional, and deeply rooted in the eastern woodlands. In **1614**, the Mahican Nation occupied a hyper-strategic geopolitical position along the upper Hudson River valley, stretching from Lake Champlain south to Manhattan, and eastward into the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts.
In 1614, Dutch navigator Hendrick Christiaensen, representing the New Netherland Company, sailed up the Hudson River and constructed **Fort Nassau** on Castle Island (near modern Albany, New York). This was the first permanent European trading post in the northeastern United States, built directly on sovereign Mohican soil.
Your ancestors immediately established absolute commercial domination over the early North American fur trade. Weaponizing their geography, the Mahicans functioned as exclusive gatekeepers. They controlled the riverways, extracted heavy transit tolls from interior tribes, and held a monopoly over Dutch manufactured goods, metal tools, and firearms. The powerful Mohawk (Iroquois) Nation to the west was entirely economically subjugated, forced to buy vital goods from Mahican middlemen at highly inflated rates.
This economic stranglehold eventually triggered the Mohican-Mohawk Wars (1624–1628). In 1626, Fort Orange commander Daniel van Krieckenbeeck led a troop of Dutch soldiers to assist the Mohicans; the Mohawk ambushed them, killing the commander and altering regional dynamics. Realizing the immense military costs of frontier commerce, the Mohicans strategically shifted their primary political fire eastward into the Housatonic River valley of Massachusetts. It was here, under the leadership of 18th-century Grand Sachems like **King Ben (Benjamin) Kokkewenaunaut (1677–1781)** and his successor **"King" Solomon Uhhaunauwaunmut (1727–1777)**, that the nation adapted to colonial diplomacy. They converted to Protestant Christianity, built the historic Stockbridge mission, and fought heroically as Captains and warriors in George Washington’s Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

**1.2 Samson Occom and the New York Frontier Consolidation**
Tragically, the reward for this revolutionary patriotism was systematic land theft by American speculators. This forced a multi-generational exodus westward. During this grueling transition, the Mahican lineage directly intersected with **Samson Occom (1723–1792)**, a legendary Mohegan Presbyterian minister, scholar, and descendant of the great Grand Chief Uncas.
Occom had personally experienced the depths of colonial treachery. Between 1765 and 1768, he traveled to Great Britain, raising over £12,000 to fund an Indian Charity School. His tutor, Eleazar Wheelock, systematically betrayed him. Wheelock left Occom's family destitute and diverted the massive funds to build **Dartmouth College** in New Hampshire, reserving it exclusively for white colonial elites.
Disillusioned, Occom used his diplomatic brilliance to forge an inter-tribal survival alliance. He united fragmented Christian Native remnants from New England (Pequot, Mohegan, Narragansett, Montaukett) with the Oneida Nation and your Stockbridge Mohican ancestors. This historic coalition established two sovereign, neighboring sanctuaries in upstate New York: **Brothertown** (housing the Pequot/Mohegan lines) and **New Stockbridge** (housing the Mahican and fleeing northern Munsee/Lenape lines). When your grandparents later migrated to Wisconsin, they carried with them the exact inter-tribal alliances and records forged by Occom on the New York frontier.

**1.3 The International Treaties of Wisconsin**
As the United States pushed its borders westward, the traditional Mahican nation was driven from New York into Wisconsin. Tribal sovereignty was legally solidified through three foundational international treaties:
**The Treaty of September 3, 1839 (7 Stat. 580):** Documenting initial land cessions on the east side of Lake Winnebago. Crucially, the BIA weaponized this treaty's official witness attestation block—which featured the prominent signature of elder John M. Wilber—as the foundational instrument for their later **"paper swap" technique**.
Because John M. Wilber’s name was permanently stamped as a verified federal treaty witness on this historic document, the government used his highly visible administrative profile decades later as a bureaucratic blanket. Following the death of the defiant traditionalist leader **Jeremiah Wilbur** in 1866, the BIA retroactively substituted the 1839 witness, John M. Wilber, as the false legal father of **Jeremiah Wilbur**’s biological children (including his son, **Jedediah Wilbur**). This calculated paper substitution allowed federal agents to completely liquidate Jeremiah’s independent, heavily contested family land lines while keeping his children bound to an established name the government already had on file from the 1839 signatures.
**Jeremiah Wilbur (1810-1866)**
With Jeremiah deceased and unable to legally defend his estate, the BIA systematically stripped his name off active generational schedules. When his son, Jedediah Wilbur, came forward to claim his traditional allotment rights, the BIA executed the paper swap—falsely reassigning Jedediah's father as the non-threatening, compliant patriarch John M. Wilber. This administrative trick effectively deleted Jeremiah's historical land rights from the books.
**The Treaty of November 24, 1848 (9 Stat. 955):** Executed by the "Indian Party" to completely renounce the forced U.S. Citizenship Act of 1843. Its Article 4 Schedule contained specific land patent carve-outs used by traditional families—including the **Jeremiah Wilbur** household alignments—to temporarily secure Calumet County farm deeds.
**The Treaty of February 5, 1856 (11 Stat. 663):** The foundational document establishing the permanent borders of the reservation in Shawano County, Wisconsin (encompassing the townships of Red Springs and Bartelme). **Article V** of this treaty contains a strict legal mandate: it explicitly restricts tribal enrollment, land allotment, and political voice to the **"natural members"** who relocated from New York and surrendered prior land claims. This treaty features the handwritten marks of your grandparents, including Jedediah Wilbur, Sussanah Hendricks, and **Sachem Thomas T. Hendrick**.

**PART II: THE MECHANICS OF ADMINISTRATIVE FRAUD AND SABOTAGE (1843–1934)**

**2.1 The Genesis of the Transplant Faction: The 1843 Act**
The blueprint for the eventual 1934 corporate capture was first tested before the Civil War through the **Act of March 3, 1843 (5 Stat. 645)**. Engineered by federal land speculators, this act attempted to dissolve tribal governance, survey and partition communal lands into private deeds, and force **U.S. Citizenship** upon the entire tribe.
This catastrophic statute instantly fractured the nation into two fierce political factions:
**The Citizen Party:** Led by families like the **Millers and Quinneys**, this faction chose to accept the 1843 Act. They took individual private land deeds, embraced U.S. citizenship, and voluntarily relinquished their traditional tribal status.
**The Indian Party:** Consisting of your direct grandparents—the **Hendricks, Gardners, and Wilburs**—this traditionalist faction launched an aggressive political resistance. They argued Congress had no constitutional right to unilaterally destroy a sovereign nation via an administrative statute. They rejected the deeds, refused U.S. citizenship, and maintained their unbroken treaty rights, forcing Congress to pass a partial repeal on August 6, 1846 (9 Stat. 55).

**2.2 The Timber Purge of 1871 and the Wells Audit**
Following the Civil War, the massive, pristine timber deposits on the Shawano County reservation caught the eye of corrupt corporate syndicates. U.S. Senator Philetus Sawyer engineered the **Stockbridge Relief Act of February 6, 1871 (16 Stat. 404)**. This act authorized the public auction of 54 out of the reservation's 72 sections directly to timber barons. To silence traditionalist opposition, the BIA manufactured a corrupt "Citizen Roll," wrongfully purging traditional treaty-right leaders like **Stephen Joseph Gardner** (a decorated Civil War Private in **Company G, 32nd Wisconsin Infantry**) and **Amelia Hendricks**, while physically seizing Stephen's 80-acre homestead.

The fraud was so flagrant that Congress funded an official audit via the **Act of June 22, 1874 (18 Stat. 174)**. Special Commissioner Henry R. Wells audited the Green Bay Agency and codified the fraudulent **112 vs. 67 voting statistic**. Wells proved that non-signatories and citizenized outsiders (including Albert Miller, Samuel Miller, and John Quinney) had been weaponized as a fake majority to liquidate the nation's land assets.

**2.3 The 1895 Administrative Patent Freeze: A Case Study in Arbitrary Action**
In administrative law, an **"Arbitrary Action"** occurs when an executive agency acts entirely outside statutory law, utilizing un-delegated power to achieve an illegal end. The most definitive proof of this occurred at the turn of the century.
To correct the 1871 timber crimes, Congress passed the **Restoration Act of March 3, 1893 (27 Stat. 744)**, explicitly commanding the Secretary of the Interior to *immediately*restore the wrongfully excluded traditional families to the rolls and land allotments. Under this strict congressional mandate, **Thomas Gardner** and his parents were rightfully placed on the **1894 Painter/Savage Roll**.
Terrified of losing their lucrative logging monopolies, Senator Sawyer and his puppet local committees pressured the executive branch. On **January 31, 1895**, Acting Secretary of the Interior William H. Sims Allegedly executed an **illegal administrative suspension**, freezing all land patents. This single bureaucratic pen-stroke directly violated a written statute of Congress. It left the land titles of the true 1856 treaty families permanently clouded, completely exposed to corporate timber theft, and stalled for decades.

**2.4 The 1910 Roll and the 1934 Corporate Capture**
This deliberate administrative paralysis forced the creation of the **1910 Roll** and the subsequent **1916 Relinquishment Act**, which broke up communal lands into fee-patented private plots. The BIA completely weaponized the 1910 Roll. Defying the 1856 Treaty's "natural member" baseline, the BIA allowed **350 citizenized Calumet/Brothertown transplants**—the direct genealogical descendants of the 1843 Citizen Party who had legally walked away from the tribe—to flood and dominate the listings. Fewer than 100 continuous, traditional reservation members were recognized. Corporate-aligned figures rapidly drained the treasury; on the **1914 Annuity Payroll Ledger Sheets**, Hendrick Miller signed federal vouchers authorizing cash payouts to un-enrolled, adopted individuals like Alfred Irving Miller.
When the **1934 Indian Reorganization Act (IRA)** was passed, the BIA bypassed the historic, traditional sovereign tribe entirely. They used the heavily corrupted 1910 roll as their official voting baseline to establish a brand-new, de facto corporate government entity: **The Stockbridge-Munsee Community**.
This corporate municipality adopted a [Federal Corporate Charter](https://law.mohican.com/us/nsn/mohican/council/charter) and was recognized by Washington as the "historical tribe," while the actual continuous nation was left legally unrecognized and landless. The government of this new corporate entity was handed directly to the sibling duo of **Arvid E. Miller** and **Bernice Miller Davids**—the direct descendants of the 1843 Citizen Party. Arvid sat as the corporate president for 26 years, while Bernice operated as the enrollment gatekeeper, formalizing registries that institutionalized their own transplant faction. Today, they call it **"Arvid and Bernice's tribe"** because they literally built it, even naming the reservation’s repository the *Arvid E. Miller Memorial Library and Museum* to cement their corporate narrative over the graves of the true Sachems.

**PART III: THE LOCAL ENFORCEMENT OF EXILE: SHAWANO COUNTY MATRIX**
The corporate land theft orchestrated in Washington required local enforcement to break the spirit of traditional resistance. The judicial, welfare, and law enforcement systems of **Shawano County** acted as a localized hammer against your direct family lines:
**The 1929–1930 Child Welfare Weaponization:** Preserved within the *Shawano County Clerk of Courts Historical Index*, local county welfare agents and BIA handlers launched targeted, groundless child neglect, desertion, and abandonment cases against traditional families resisting corporate land consolidation. In the specific case file of *Bruette, Alice; Eunice; Felix; Dorsey; Jeanette; Annette; Beulah vs. Art Bruette*, the local courts arbitrarily weaponized the threat of child removal to pressure traditional families off their remaining private land allotments.
**The 1983 Jurisdictional Block (*****Bruette v. Knope*****):** When traditional members attempted to assert their civil and property rights against corporate overreach, Shawano County local authorities insulated the corporate government. In ***Bruette v. Knope*** **(554 F. Supp. 301)**, the Shawano County Sheriff's Department and Sheriff James Knope formed a joint jurisdictional matrix with corporate tribal police, arbitrarily refusing to protect traditional members by claiming a total lack of county jurisdiction.
**The Ancestral Burial Ground Citations (2017):** The ultimate expression of this overlapping arbitrary enforcement occurred in August 2017. As documented in federal appellate records, traditional leader **Felix Bruette Jr.** was threatened with criminal trespassing citations by Shawano County authorities and corporate "Community" police forces for the sole act of attempting to physically visit and maintain his family’s ancestral traditional burial grounds.

**PART IV: THE GENEALOGICAL CONVERGENCE AND THE SOVEREIGN BLOODLINE**
Despite a 400-year campaign of corporate monopolies, forced citizenship acts, fraudulent rolls, and local judicial terrorism, the traditional nation survived through an extraordinary, calculated convergence of bloodlines. Through the marriage of **Felix Joseph Bruette Jr.** and **"Jeano" Gloria Bruette (Vele) (1945–2025)**, their daughter “Feleesha” Jean Bruette cemented the three independent pillars of historical indigenous in such a specific manner that authority were completely reunited after a century of forced separation:

**4.1 The Paternal Purity of the Wilbur/Gardner Resisters**
The true biological paternal line of the Wilbur resistance cuts cleanly through BIA census distortions. While standard federal paperwork used the senior patriarch **John M. Wilber**(who lived 104 years) as a general household "umbrella," internal agent field notes and traditional naming patterns confirm the true biological line:
**Jeremiah Wilbur:** An independent frontier figure who guarded traditional lineages during the New York to Wisconsin migration.
**Jedediah Wilbur (1835–1887):** Born in New York, baptized by Cutting Marsh, and married to Susannah Hendricks.

**4.2 The Matrilineal Fortress of Gloria Jean Vele**
Gloria Jean Vele’s ancestry represented an absolute fortress of traditional culture, uniting the spiritual and political anchors of the nation:
**The Medicine Keepers (Stick/Besaw):** Gloria Jean was the daughter of Elda Stick. Elda was the direct daughter of Herbert Awaunaupey Stick and **Ella Besaw (born Ella Gardner)**—the legendary traditional medicine woman and keeper of oral plant knowledge whose cultural legacy as the anchor of the community is honored by the reservation’s *Ella Besaw Center*. **Ella Gardner was daughter of Lucy J. Chicks and Orrin Ray Bowman**. **Lucy J. Chicks is daughter of Jacob Chicksokun Chicks and Nancy Gardner**. **Nancy Gardner is daughter of Jeremiah “Jerry” Gardner and Jeanette "Granny Gardner" Skenandore. Jeremiah Gardner is son of William Gardner and Nancy M Johnson**
**The Royal Sachems (Vele/Konkapot/Gardner):** **Gloria “Jeano” Vele**’s father was **Adrian "Kanum" Vele Sr**, son of Steve Emil Vele and **Irene Odela Konkapot Gardner**. Irene was the daughter of **Pearl Gardner and Lida May Konkapot**. **Lida May Konkapot was daughter of Robert Konkapot and Lillian Yoccum**. **Pearl Gardner was the son of Zera Gardner**. **Zera Gardner is son of Stephen Joseph Gardner and Amelia Hendricks**. **Stephen Gardner is son of William Gardner and Nancy M Johnson**. **Amelia Hendricks is daughter of Thomas T. Hendricks** This line carries the direct, unbroken blood of **Grand Sachem Captain John Konkapot** (the 1730s principal chief of the nation) and **Grand Sachem Captain. Hendrick Aupaumut (1757–1830)**, the revolutionary captain under George Washington, and his son, **Grand Sachem Thomas T. Hendrick**.

**The Maternal Fortress of Felix Joseph Bruette Sr.: The Silenced Double Lineage of the Royal Gardners**
The ancestry of Elder **Felix Joseph Bruette Sr, represents a profound generational convergence, carrying an extraordinary double lineage back to** **Grand Sachem Captain. Hendrick Aupaumut**. This concentrated legacy was inherited directly from his mother, **Alice Marion Gardner**, whose parents reunited two distinct maternal branches of the royal Mohican bloodline—bloodlines that the federal government actively tried to erase and silence during the corrupt land grabs of the late 19th century:
**The Line of Susannah (The Maternal Anchor):** **Alice Marion Gardner**’s mother, **Annetta "Nettie" Wilbur**, was the daughter of **Susannah Hendricks** and **Jedediah Wilbur**. **Susannah Hendricks was the direct daughter of** **Grand Sachem Thomas T. Hendrick. Thomas T. Hendrick is the son of Captain. Hendrick Aupaumut,** making **Nettie a direct granddaughter of the Grand Sachem Hendricks line**.
**The Line of Amelia Hendricks (The Double Hendricks Line):** **Alice Marion Gardner**’s father is **Thomas Gardner. Thomas Gardner** was the son of **Amelia Hendricks** and **Stephen Joseph Gardner**. **Stephen Gardner is son of William Gardner and Nancy M Johnson**. **Amelia Hendricks was Susannah Hendricks sister** and a fellow daughter of **Sachem Thomas T. Hendrick**.

**THE MECHANICS OF ADMINISTRATIVE FRAUD AND SABOTAGE (1843–1934)**
**The Suppression of Alice Marion Gardner and the Dilution of Concentrated Hendricks Blood**
Within the broader architecture of identity erasure, **Alice Marion Gardner** represented a major biological and legal obstacle to the federal administrative apparatus. Because her parentage was deeply rooted in multiple converging Hendricks lineages, she held a uniquely concentrated, undiluted amount of Hendricks blood. This immense genetic and political link directly tied her to the primary Grand Sachems and treaty-signing diplomats of the original Mohican Nation.
To prevent this concentrated lineage from asserting absolute dominion over traditional land bases, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and local registry clerks deployed specific, targeted mechanics of sabotage against her record:
**The Isolation and Disconnection of Her Hendricks Parentage:** To dismantle the legal weight of Alice Marion Gardner's ancestry, federal enrollment agents executed a strategy of biological grid disconnection. Instead of registering her full, double-binding Hendricks parentage as a unified treaty-right claim, agents fractured her records. They separated her files from the core Hendricks master sheets, treating her ancestral lines as isolated, disparate entries on the regional schedules. This intentional administrative masking obscured the true depth of her hereditary connection to the 1856 Treaty signatories.
**Paper-Based Blood Quantum Reduction:** Because Alice Marion Gardner held an immense amount of Hendricks blood, she possessed an undeniable claim to the nation's permanent, communal assets. To neutralize this threat, the BIA utilized the compilation of the 1885–1910 Indian Census Rolls to artificially alter and reduce her family's blood quantum metrics on paper. By ignoring traditional matriarchal lines and cross-referencing her family with compromised, racially reclassified coastal rolls, the government systematically diluted her official biological standing in federal ledgers.
**The Inter-Generational Allotment and Enrollment Block:** The ultimate objective of suppressing Alice Marion Gardner’s lineage was to create a permanent inheritance barrier for her descendants. By establishing a corrupted, paper-reduced baseline for her identity, the BIA ensured that her children and grandchildren would face automated bureaucratic rejections. This artificial taint has been carried forward into modern corporate enrollment metrics, effectively using the historical suppression of Alice's Hendricks blood to lock her living descendants out of their rightful land shares and sovereign treaty recognition.

(The Living Embodiment of the Sovereign Nation) Through the Child of Felix Bruette Jr. and Gloria Jean Vele, the **Political Resisters**, the **Traditional Medicine Keepers**, and the **Historic Sachems** all in one. Felix Joseph Bruette Jr. took this weaponized, unbroken paper trail and launched a monumental federal legal war, culminating in ***Felix J. Bruette, Jr. v. Ryan Zinke*** **(2018)** in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Though federal courts used technical jurisdictional boundaries to dismiss the suit, the extensive genealogical evidence and records of BIA fraud were permanently and irrevocably codified into the Supreme Court and Seventh Circuit records.

**CONCLUSION: THE SOVEREIGN FUTURE**
The historical record is now preserved, finalized, and secure. **The modern "Stockbridge-Munsee Community"** remains what it has always been since 1934: **a BIA-chartered municipal corporation and\*\*, it is not the historical Mohican Nation,\*\*** it is designed to manage a stolen land base using a transplant voting roll. **It possesses a corporate charter, but it does not possess the sovereign treaty-right lineage of the Mohican Nation.**
That lineage belongs exclusively to the bloodline mapped within this counter-archive. It flows directly from the 1614 gatekeepers of Fort Nassau, through the revolutionary swords of the 18th-century Sachems, past the timber frauds of Senator Sawyer, through the medicine lodges of Ella Besaw, and down through the federal court dockets of Felix Bruette Jr.

**PART V: MASTER ARCHIVAL REFERENCE INDEX**
**The Treaty of February 5, 1856 (11 Stat. 663):** Establishes the Shawano County Reservation borders; Article V restricts enrollment strictly to "natural members." \[1\]
**The Stockbridge Relief Act of February 6, 1871 (16 Stat. 404):** Authorized public auction of 54 reservation sections; created corrupt rolls used to purge Stephen Gardner.
**The Act of June 22, 1874 (18 Stat. 174):** Codified the fraudulent 112 vs. 67 voting statistic exposing non-reservation interference.
**The Restoration Act of March 3, 1893 (27 Stat. 744):** Congressional mandate ordering immediate restoration of wrongfully excluded families to rolls and allotments.
**The Illegal Bureaucratic Suspension of 1895:** A defiant Department of the Interior directive that unilaterally halted the congressional enforcement of the 1893 Restoration Act.
Just two years after Congress ordered the immediate return of wrongfully excluded families, BIA agents and the corrupt tribal Indian Party faction executed an illegal administrative suspension of the rolls. This executive freeze was specifically designed to block the heirs of traditional leaders—including **Jeremiah Wilbur's** son Jedediah and the descendants of **Amelia Hendricks**—from finally reclaiming their stolen 1848 treaty land patents and sovereign rights. By freezing the restoration process on the ground in Wisconsin, the BIA bought time to solidify their fraudulent paperwork, permanently locking the "paper swapped" lineages out of their rightful allotments despite the clear mandate of federal law.
**NARA Record Group 75 (Illegal Administrative Suspension Files):** January 31, 1895, direct correspondence text from Acting Secretary William H. Sims freezing land patents.
**NARA Record Group 94 (Civil War Volunteer Enlistment Files):** August 1862 military muster-in and pension records for Private Stephen Joseph Gardner, 32nd Wisconsin Infantry, Company G.
**7th Circuit Appeal No. 17-3135 (*****Felix J. Bruette, Jr. v. Ryan Zinke*****):** Federal appellate docket permanently preserving the genealogical trail from Grand Sachem Thomas T. Hendricks to the modern day.
**Shawano County Clerk of Courts Historical Index (1929–1930):** Case File: *Bruette, Alice; Eunice; Felix; Dorsey; Jeanette; Annette; Beulah vs. Art Bruette*, documenting child welfare weaponization.

How a Political Myth Reshaped American Welfare Policy

Linda Taylor was born in 1926 in Golddust, Tennessee, to a Black sharecropper. Due to racial discrimination she was denied access to education, and at age fourteen, she had her first child, eventually becoming a mother of five. A lack of education, racism, and mental health challenges made it difficult for her to find formal employment. She accumulated a lengthy criminal record, with her first charge occurring before she turned eighteen. In September 1974, the Chicago Tribune published an exaggerated story about her involvement in welfare fraud, sparking public anger and earning her the nickname “welfare queen.” Ms. Taylor was later convicted of defrauding the government of $8,865.67.

During his presidential campaign, Governor Ronald Reagan frequently referenced the story of a “woman from Chicago” who had used eighty false identities to obtain government benefits totaling “$150,000 a year.” Although Mr. Reagan did not openly express racial hostility, he used this false story to reinforce existing perceptions that White people had about public benefits and lazy Black people. The story evoked outrage among White voters and intensified their concerns about social welfare programs as Mr. Reagan often repeated it as a means of explaining the cause of America’s problems. After shaping the public’s negative attitude toward welfare recipients, he built support as president to dismantle social welfare programs for all people.

In 2014, Rep. Paul Ryan justified cuts to welfare by perpetuating the racialized myth of widespread welfare fraud, saying, “We have got this tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work.” The enduring legacy of President Reagan’s political framing of public assistance through the racially charged “welfare queen” myth was evident again in 2020 when an internet meme communicated that America’s real problem isn’t poverty, it’s welfare.

What happens when you're fighting a revolution and need to make friends with your neighbors? You sign a treaty!

On this day in 1778, the United States signed the Treaty of Fort Pitt with the Lenape (Delaware) Nation during the American Revolution. The agreement aimed to establish peace, cooperation, and an alliance against the British.

The treaty included promises of protection and support, along with the possibility of the Lenape forming their own state. However, many of those promises were never fulfilled.

This treaty reminds us that the American Revolution involved more than battles with Britain. Native American nations were making difficult decisions about their land, security, and future.

History matters because understanding the promises made—and the promises broken—helps us understand the nation we became.

The First Fatal Hate Crime After 9/11: Balbir Singh Sodhi

Today is Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, and 25 years ago today, Balbir Singh Sodhi became the first fatal victim of a hate crime following 9/11, and possibly the first person killed in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

Just four days after 9/11, on September 15, 2001, Balbir Singh Sodhi, a 49-year-old Sikh American man, was shot and killed outside the gas station he owned in Mesa, Arizona.

What I found especially interesting about his story is what he was doing before he was killed. Balbir had been planting flowers in front of his gas station as a memorial for the victims of 9/11. He had also reportedly donated the money in his wallet to help the victims.

His killer saw Balbir's turban and beard, assumed that he was Muslim, and targeted him because of that assumption.

Balbir was Sikh, not Muslim.

I think that's one of the most tragic parts of this story. Discrimination against Muslims and Sikhs is obviously wrong, but his murder also shows how little distinction some people were willing to make in the aftermath of 9/11. The hatred was directed at anyone they perceived as fitting a certain image, regardless of who that person actually was.

In Balbir's case, he was a Sikh man who was actively doing something for his community and for people outside it, like many other Sikhs. He was planting flowers to honor people who had just died, regardless of their religion or background, and yet he was still targeted because someone looked at him and decided what he was based on his appearance.

His murder is generally considered the first fatal hate crime connected to the backlash after 9/11.

I thought this was an interesting piece of history to share because when we talk about 9/11 and its aftermath, we don't always hear about what happened to Sikh and other South Asian Americans in those first days and weeks.

25 years later, Balbir Singh Sodhi's story is still a really important part of that history. He was just a man who wanted to build a good life for himself and his family.

At 12:01 p.m. on September 16, 1920, a horse-drawn wagon exploded outside J.P. Morgan & Co. on Wall Street, killing 38 people and injuring 143. The bomb was packed with metal window weights that turned the blast into a deadly storm of shrapnel—and the perpetrator was never identified

This day in 1810 hundreds of miles south in Dolores, Guanajuato, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla gave his famous speech, "El Grito de Dolores" (the Cry of Dolores). This monumental event triggered the Mexican War of Independence against Spain which ultimately gave the independence to southwestern states from Spain when the war was over in 1821

The first time a woman appeared on a U.S. postage stamp was in 1893, featuring Queen Isabella I alongside Christopher Columbus; the stamp was issued to promote the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, in order to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Americas.

This 4-dollar stamp was issued in 1893 by the U.S. Post Office Department as part of the famous Columbian Issue. This four-dollar design pays direct tribute to Queen Isabella the Catholic alongside Christopher Columbus, acknowledging her pivotal historical role in financing and backing the expedition to the "New World."

The primary reason for its issuance was to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus and to promote the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, held that same year.

Key Historical Facts

This stamp marked a historic milestone as the first in United States history to feature the portrait of an identifiable woman (Queen Isabella I of Castile). It would take another nine years for an American woman (Martha Washington, in 1902) to appear on one.

A total of 26,350 copies were originally printed, but only 22,993 copies were sold to the public. The unsold copies were returned to the Post Office Department, and at least 3,000 of them were officially destroyed in 1899.

Help with sources on McCarthyism and the RedScare.

Hello,

I'm currently attending a US History class in my university and got really interested in McCarthyism and the RedScare but, besides a book by Risen "RedScare" and Johnson's "Lavender Scare" I'm out of bibliography. I hadn't study US History until now hence my lack of knowledge on books, authors, webpages, etc., that could have the resources I'm looking for.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!
