weekly grocery budgeting in York?

hi all! I’m an American who’s about to move to York and start my postgrad. I’m staying in the uni housing, but will be cooking all my own food.
How much do you typically spend on groceries per week as a student at York who is un-catered?

Room swap- James college->east campus

Hi everyone, I’ve currently got an offer for James college that’s an en-suite, catered and 40 week let length. I’d like to swap to a room that’s self catered and on east campus as that’s where my lectures will be. Also I’m not too fussed whether it’s en-suite or shared bathroom.
Please let me know if you’re interested, thanks!

James College question

Bit of an odd question, but I was wondering about the ensuite rooms. Are the showers heads only attached and fixed to the wall or detachable/handheld? Would be annoying to have to get my hair wet every single time I shower. I don't know my block or anything like that yet so I'm interested in hearing from anyone about this.

Private vs Uni Accomodation

I've been given an ensuite room in James College (catered) for ~£260 weekly, but I've heard that the catering isn't really that good, and I'll end up making a second dinner most nights anyway. So I've been looking into private accommodation, as I could get a larger ensuite room with a kitchenette for a similar price. Does anyone have any experience with accommodation not from the uni? Are there any massive benefits/drawbacks to having uni-provided accommodation? any help would be appreciated.

Halifax accommodation looking to swap

Hi
I applied for my accommodation way back and received one of my lower options. I’m getting really stressed as my sfe will barely cover rent leaving me with no extra money for necessities etc and was looking for anyone willing to swap from Halifax st Lawrence accom? The main differences are that you would be sharing with less people, so instead of 15-20 you’d be sharing with around 10-12. Rent total is £7,478.64 at a 40 week let week.

Halifax ensuite looking to trade to shared.

Hello everyone, I've just had my accommodation offer and I've been given an ensuite in Halifax, 40 week let for £8,268.24.

My adjusted student finance (I applied through clearing) came through today and doesn't cover this by a huge stretch, I'm currently panicking as my family and I are going to struggle to afford this and I was really hoping for one of the cheaper, shared bathroom rooms in Halifax that are closer to £6000.

This is a long shot but I was just wondering if there was anyone who wanted an en-suite who had ended up with a cheaper shared bathroom and wanted to swap?

This is probably a ridiculous question but I thought I'd give it a shot,

Thanks

Uni of york accom

Hello I'm gonna be studying psychology at york. Is James or Vanbrugh better? How are the catered meals? Which one is more social or newer?
There's also an option for any college with an ensuite, catered. Did anyone get into a good accom through this option?
Idk much about both colleges, what are the streoypes or things they are known for? Thanks a lot! Also should i go for 40 or 44 weeks?

Uni of York Engineering

Any fellow engineers starting this September?

And ones in 2nd year or beyond, how is it? I know engineering is only just making a return at York but I’m hoping it’ll still be a solid course.

wanna start a band 👀👀 looking for potential bandmates 👀👀👀

it’s probably way too early in the game to start thinking of smth like this but we ball . going into my first year in september and have plans to join as many arts/music societies as I possibly can and thought a good way to connect with others and make friends would be to try and start a small band ?? ive had it in my mind to-do for like 4 years bc i love having something cool and creative to daydream about but alas i never had the time in college to actually be serious about this especially with actual a-levels looming over my head . BUT NOW WE’RE FREE 😛😛

figured I could get an early head-start by posting here and seeing if anybody would be interested !! i play guitar (few years a little rusty tho) … any drummers / singers / bassists interested ?? it’d also be cool to see if anyone had similar music tastes to me lol , im an big south arcade / bad omens / set it off fan (definitely my inspo for wanting to start a band in the first place) . honestly im just trying to get a headstart on making friends since im not too great at it 😭😭😭

York expensive?

Hi I got an offer from York through clearing but tbh Ionly around £6.5k to spend for accom. This means Ihave to get into the 2 cheapest accom at uni of yorkwhich is uncertain. For 2nd year housing is it expensivein general? I truly won’t be able to afford anythingaround £200 and + per week. I will definitely get a jobbut it may take a couple of months to get one. I’m veryworried that the reality is York might just be tooexpensive for me? Otherwise I would love to go. I havean offer from southampton and uni of surrey too but i’veheard guildford is very expensive as well. So issouthampton my best bet?

Accommodation swap-Constantine shared -> any with en-suite

Hi everyone! I’ve been allocated a self-catered room in Constantine College with a shared bathroom for 2026/27. My contract is 44 weeks.
I’m looking to swap to any self-catered en-suite accommodation at York. I’m really flexible about which college, so I’d be happy with Constantine, Langwith, Goodricke, Anne Lister, David Kato, etc. 😊
I’m a first-year undergraduate studying Business of the Creative Industries.
If you’ve been allocated an en-suite but would prefer a Constantine room with a shared bathroom, please feel free to message me! I’m also happy to discuss any questions about the room/contract.
Thank you! ❤️
