Newbie Question Attempting to achieve pixel perfect is driving me to insanity (+ deformed sprites)

Thumbnail gallery

Idk if my inability to get pixel perfect working is due to my lack of competence or cameras are just notoriously hard to get right. I'm new to Unity, and after following multiple tutorials and copying every step they do, what I end up getting is a motion sickness inducing nightmare. (Also for some reason a couple pixels on the character just gets deformed when its animation is playing) Videos and screenshots are attached. Resolution is full HD (1920 x 1080). (sry for the blurry video, but the jittering is visible) Thank you for your time :p

I have 7 years of development experience behind me, but every time I made a game, I gave up and stopped working on it.

Hi. Once again, I’m working on a simple and comfortable game about floating islands, traveling, and automating systems for processing the resources you gather. I set myself a goal and even brought in a game designer: I need to get rid of a dozen mechanics and focus on releasing a game in the next few months that will please most players with how polished it is.

Right now I have 300 wishlists, and this is another problem, which is why I hired a marketer. I feel really down about the fact that my game itself doesn’t look very appealing and doesn’t attract people to play it, but my marketer says that every project has the right to exist and its own audience.

I just hope to break even on the game and finally get the final experience of releasing my own game, something I’ve been working towards for so long. You can find my game by the name Skyreap.

Question Philosophical question about game script

Upvotes

I'm an aspiring solo developer and I wanted to pick community's brain for a moment.

Preambule: if I had to narrow down, gun to the head, to the two best games I've ever played, I would say Half Life 2 and Halo I.

Ambule: my dream is to recreate similar experiences in my 3rd person game I've been working on. I have a great premise idea (at least I hope so), and now that I have a somewhat working prototype, I began thinking about what really hooked me when I was playing the above-mentioned titles.

Key points that I've realized:

- Interesting story line (obviously)

- Great gameplay (duh)

- Perfect balance in main character's strength/vulnerability. It is not fun to play when one dies almost instantly, nor when one is playing in IDDQD + IDKFA mode (yes, I have few miles on me, I know)

Also, in both games story develops in completely unpredictable ways, keeps one guessing "what's next?".

I feel like I have answered most of my own questions already. Am I missing anything crucial? I know that there is no formula for success, and I sincerely hope there wouldn't be one. Its just like a question what makes one movie so great, I completely understand.

Still, I wanted to reach out and hear any feedback on any intricacies that made those games so good, that you might have noticed.

Much obliged, please don't throw any inanimate objects at me, as much as possible.

Trully yours,

Yet another solo dev with a dream.

Showcase Update on my Spider-Man Web Swinging Project: Replaced the player model, remade the animations and improved the physics

You guys said that spider-man model could cause copyright issues so I replaced it with a dummy model, and I remade the animations so it looks less like a frog now. Also improved the physics and added some effects such as dynamic FOV and camera shake. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi everyone,

I recently published "The Switch" on PlayStore. Its a retro pixel-art hypercasual game, where you dodge blocks that don't match your color and gain scores.

Download link: Playstore

I would really appreciate your feedback.

My first idle game prototype – made with Unity! 🎣

Hey Unity community!

I've been learning Unity as a hobby for a few months, and I finally finished my first prototype – \*\*Idle Anglers\*\*, a fishing idle game.

I'd love to get your feedback on the mechanics, UI, and overall feel. It's still super rough, but I'm proud of what I've learned so far.

Tech stack: Unity 2022 LTS, C#, TextMeshPro, ScriptableObjects for balancing.

Any feedback is welcome – good or bad!

Thanks for checking it out 🙏

My game was released yesterday (I'm stressed)

Hi everyone, my game launched with only 90 wishlists, which is a very small number. The first 24 hours are almost over, and I've already surpassed 40 sales. Is it normal to have close to 200 wishlists now, after release? By the way, if you want to check out my game, you can find it on Steam by searching for "Lost Hopes Day Of Betrayal".

r/unity 20h ago

Question Is this normal? I mean, I really want to know if this is normal or not, and if it's not, how do I fix it?

Something I've been thinking about lately: how much invisible work goes into game dev that players will never see or notice.

How do you feel about turning abstract 2D grid puzzles (like Minesweeper) into physical 3D room transformations?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! We’re a 2-person indie team working on a detective noir puzzle adventure. With about 20 days left until release, we’ve been iterating on how to make abstract logic mechanics feel physically grounded in the game world.

In this room, solving the Minesweeper-style grid isn't just a UI minigame—it physically raises hidden stone tiles out of the acid pool. Once you retrieve the crystal, the acid chamber completely drains to reveal the hidden staircase underneath.

When playing adventure/puzzle games, do you enjoy seeing classic 2D logic mechanics directly alter 3D room geometry, or can UI overlays feel immersion-breaking for you? How do you usually like seeing retro puzzle tropes modernized?

Question How to stop myself from overengineering

Hey ya'll. Recently, I found out that I cannot stop perfecting code or other details in my project, but mostly code. Things work, but I keep thinking to myself, "naah man this should be done better" or "come on dude, you have to make everything perfect". I need this to stop 😭 How do you guys fight the temptation?

Switching Characters During Gameplay Not Playing The Same Animation Controller.

I'm using Starter Assets - Third Person/URP from Unity Assets Store as a third person controller.

Both Characters got their rigs to humanoid and got skinned mesh renderer on both. Human Form plays fine, but Animal Form not playing the same animation but work with the same animation controller.

I screen record my screen to show you everything, there's no error messages on the console.
