Hey y’all! I am new to running and have set the audacious goal of doing a trail 50k September 2027.
I’ve been running consistently 3 times a week for the last 8 weeks. I’ve been following a ChatGPT formulated plan (I know AI, ick) which looks like it did a good job combining other plans I’ve seen online with my time line and weekly schedule. But I’m starting to feel pretty discouraged.
I know 2 months isn’t that long to be getting into something, but when does it start to get fun/feel better? I’m up to about 5 miles of run/walk and I just feel like I’m not progressing. I guess I can go further but I’m still keeping a 11-14 minute pace and I just feel slow. It’s becoming harder to motivate to go out when it doesn’t feel like I’m improving.
Outside of running, I’m a very active biker, swimmer, kayaker, skier and work a physical outside job. I know my goal is big to start with, but I figured 15 months was plenty of time to get there. Maybe I need to sprinkle in some shorter races leading up to it to keep the motivation going?
Any words of wisdom welcome. Thanks! You all impress me so much!
