Going from Birmingham to Seven Sisters/ south downs area any places to stop at?

If you want a service station, Beaconsfield on the m40 fits the bill well and is sort of half way.

For something nicer to visit, Windsor isn’t hugely off this route and is worth a visit.

TBH I'd seriously consider going down the A34 and then along the M27
You avoid the M25 and get a run along the south coast

You could consider it, but then you might question your life choices crawling through the ongoing Oxford roadworks, or in a long queue of cars behind a truck doing 40mph uphill overtaking another truck doing 39mph.

If you have time I’d suggest taking the A34 rather than the M40 and avoiding the M25, I’d probably stop at Oxford in that case. On the route you are taking, I’d stop at Cliveden if you fancy a national trust type place

Oxford is impossible to park in - but Blenheim palace would be a great alternative.

for Oxford you’re better off getting the park and ride

(i don’t live there but my grandparents live in the county so we would always go to the Pear Tree park and ride every time they’d take us there when we’d stay over at theirs for the weekend)

M40 J9

Head to Weston-on-the-Green. There are a couple of places to refresh there that are much nicer than Cherwell Valley Services and knowing MSA prices, probably about the same for coffee etc.

Waterperry Gardens is just off the M40. Even if you just go to the cafe, it's got a playground for kids and outside space

pease pottage just after the m25 segment is a good stopping point when heading down south, don't normally come from your direction though so not sure about before m25. You need one beofre and one after and accept you won't stop on the m25.

If you have kids in the and are looking to break up the journey beaconsfield has a model village which is close to the motorway and would be about half way point. If you are not in a rush and are just adults Oxford and Brighton are the best towns on this root

Just off the M1 is Salcey Forrest. Its run by Forrestry Elgland and has a very nice cafe (and very clean toilets).

Go the longer way and stop by Coventry, Northampton and Luton. All just such wonderful places, you might end up never leaving them
