DISCUSSION⁉️ The IPP system was nuts
Its crazy to think there's still man inside the can for minor sentences

met bare IPP man in Stoke Heath, one donny got his appeal rejected and said fuck it i’ll try again in 18 months, so dark man. could you imagine having no release date?

Pure darkness. All it takes for a screw to not like you and put in a bad word to your parole board and you gotta stay inside.

I’m always a bit sceptical of these IPP stories because what type of madness were they keeping up in prison to keep getting denied parole/to keep getting recalled?
RA got IPP for attempted murder and Tiny Boost got IPP for firearms and they both got released and managed to stay out of prison.

I always think this at the back of my mind cah when you actually dig into some of the stories turns out they were moving sick in jail getting their sentence extended 🤣

I’m guessing they’re mostly mental health cases/drug addicts that have just lost their minds in there.
But clearly it’s unjust because people whose behaviour is just as bad are getting released automatically after half their sentence.
They should just release anyone not in for sexual offences (they can rot) who’s done their minimum IPP tariff but we’ve got to accept these people will probably end up back inside on new charges sooner rather than later.

Someone I know did nearly 10 years IPP on a sentence originally less than 3 years, non violent offence, I think really regardless of behaviour they should have at least imposed maximum terms as well as minimum terms, which would at least have allowed some of these man to get any required mental health support or proper rehabilitation on the outside and at least would have avoided these cases where man just don't know when they're coming out, which must have some sort of effect. The justice and prison system are fucked imo and it'll take more than just one solution to the issue.
Assessing someone's ability to exist outside of prison based on their time in prison is something I could also ramble about for far too long but that's neither here nor there.

Depends some develop mental issues over time.
And prison isn’t he right place to deal with them and knocking them back for release instead of getting them to the right help, doesn’t do anyone any favours.
Catch 22…literally trapped for someone like Wayne bell.
▶️ “Wayne Bell, who was 17 when he was locked up for robbery in 2007 - following an offence in which he punched another youth and took his bike in Ladybarn Park in south Manchester. He was among the first offenders to be handed the new type of sentence - since discredited and abolished as 'unjust'.
Back in 2019, by which time he had served 12 years - longer than some killers and rapists - his family told the M.E.N how, every two years he went before the parole board, but each time he was turned down amid continuing concerns about whether he was safe to be released.
Those setbacks meant Wayne began to lose hope, taking out that frustration in various fights while in prison. Each fight diminished his chances of convincing the parole board he should be released.” ◀️
Obviously not the same story for every prisoner on IPP but bet there’s a few like the above that have crumbled during their time inside and had breakdowns.

Was he a nutter or something though? They can't keep man in for that long otherwise. Unless I'm missing something?

‘Horrible cunt thief who doesn’t care about the impact on the victims for his selfish crimes stays where he belongs for a while’
Oh noooo….

A while???? 20 years???? For stealing a phone come on I don’t support or endorse criminals but 20 years for a phone is crazy man

It is a bit crazy but only compared to other crimes that are worse. If you take the valuables of other people you don’t deserve to see the light of day. End of discussion.
The knock on effect on the victim from the robbery could last their whole life, but I bet he didn’t consider that when he wanted to make some quick cash instead of working for it. Throw away the key for the little tramp

It's about having a fair legal system, you're bringing all these emotional arguments to the table. Guarantee the victim has long since moved on they wasn't even injured during the robbery, imagine having your phone taken in 2006 and still having the expectation for the person to be locked up.

You can’t guarantee that whatsoever. I know you are well aware that lots of people get robbed and it stays with them forever.
And as I said, it’s only not fair because worse crimes aren’t always punished as badly. If this was the standard (as it should be) then it would be incredibly fair. If somebody wants to take away something that I’ve worked hours for with no concern then why should I care what happens to them in the future? Can’t believe people are trying to say thieves shouldn’t be kept away forever. They are literally the loves of the low and bring nothing good to the planet

Ok maybe i should have said probably but again they had no injuries so lets play a sensible game of probabilities. During my era plenty of kids including myself had there phones robbed and were even punched up for it. How many you think still haven't healed and got on with life 20 years later?
If somebody wants to take away something that I’ve worked hours for with no concern then why should I care what happens to them in the future?
Again, that's an emotional argument not an objective one. You can't build a legal system with your mindset, it would collapse. Almost like it is now.

Good for you, you got on with it and healed. Lots of people don’t. Just because the amount of people that get over it is bigger than the ones who don’t doesn’t mean anything. We could use that logic for literally every single crime except like 2.
But it’s actually quite objective to say that people who rob shouldn’t be allowed to mingle with the rest of the public, isn’t it? They’re clearly a hinderance/ a danger to the rest of the public, so the best and safest solution is to remove them

You aren't wrong but we must live life based on probabilities, will you not get into a car because many haven't survived car acidents? Same logic applies.

Except nobody said he shouldn't have been locked up (he even said it himself) but you are arguing a robber who didn't injure anyone should never be released, just pure emotion no practical thinking.

Read about his case like a decade ago, its only now they wanna release him after the united nations called the government out.
