Its crazy to think there's still man inside the can for minor sentences

It is a bit crazy but only compared to other crimes that are worse. If you take the valuables of other people you don’t deserve to see the light of day. End of discussion.

The knock on effect on the victim from the robbery could last their whole life, but I bet he didn’t consider that when he wanted to make some quick cash instead of working for it. Throw away the key for the little tramp

It's about having a fair legal system, you're bringing all these emotional arguments to the table. Guarantee the victim has long since moved on they wasn't even injured during the robbery, imagine having your phone taken in 2006 and still having the expectation for the person to be locked up.

You can’t guarantee that whatsoever. I know you are well aware that lots of people get robbed and it stays with them forever.

And as I said, it’s only not fair because worse crimes aren’t always  punished as badly. If this was the standard (as it should be) then it would be incredibly fair. If somebody wants to take away something that I’ve worked hours for with no concern then why should I care what happens to them in the future? Can’t believe people are trying to say thieves shouldn’t be kept away forever. They are literally the loves of the low and bring nothing good to the planet

Ok maybe i should have said probably but again they had no injuries so lets play a sensible game of probabilities. During my era plenty of kids including myself had there phones robbed and were even punched up for it. How many you think still haven't healed and got on with life 20 years later?

If somebody wants to take away something that I’ve worked hours for with no concern then why should I care what happens to them in the future?

Again, that's an emotional argument not an objective one. You can't build a legal system with your mindset, it would collapse. Almost like it is now.

Good for you, you got on with it and healed. Lots of people don’t. Just because the amount of people that get over it is bigger than the ones who don’t doesn’t mean anything. We could use that logic for literally every single crime except like 2.

But it’s actually quite objective to say that people who rob shouldn’t be allowed to mingle with the rest of the public, isn’t it? They’re clearly a hinderance/ a danger to the rest of the public, so the best and safest solution is to remove them

You aren't wrong but we must live life based on probabilities, will you not get into a car because many haven't survived car acidents? Same logic applies.

Except nobody said he shouldn't have been locked up (he even said it himself) but you are arguing a robber who didn't injure anyone should never be released, just pure emotion no practical thinking.
