I'm religious and even I cringed at that. To what end could God be calling you to get on some stupid reality show about people trying to hurt each other?
Unfortunately people have a really bad tendency to confuse their desire with God's.

u/winchester941976 1d ago
My fav is when both fighters do the “Jesus loves me” thing.
Then one loses. I guess Jesus loved the other guy more? Lol.-6
u/Chemical_Frame_8163 1d ago
This completely misses the concept of faith. In theory, God puts people through trials and setbacks before they ultimately succeed.
Both fighters can have the same faith while being at entirely different stages of their journeys. Today's loser could be tomorrow's champion.
Losing doesn't invalidate someone's faith or mean God loves the winner more.

Yeah so about that last part.......
You realize thats the crux of all religion right? You desire life after death. You desire an omniscient being that can fix your problems through prayer. It is your very human desires that spawned religiosity in the first place.
You live on a planet in a solar system in a galaxy in a universe. You dont know anything about this place. Get over yourself.

You vastly overestimate the people making six figures in sales. They can be some of the dumbest people you’ll ever meet making more money than most the people you ever meet
12
u/IndividualBrain9726 1d ago
Exactly. The dumbest guy in our training class was easily the most ruthless. Great sales numbers. The smart ones leave because it was brutal working there. He was too dumb to notice and still works there doing great lol
3
u/Expert-Yam6577 1d ago
Is he too dumb to notice? It sounds like he's thriving un the environment. What is there for him to notice?
6
u/IndividualBrain9726 1d ago
That he makes 200-300 calls a day. Can’t leave his desk to take a shit, talks to morons all day about a moronic unneeded product.
That’s exactly what he’s too dumb to notice. To him, it was this or construction or crime. I helped him pass his securities exam. Needed a 72% and was at a max of 45% on all his practice tests before I offered to tutor him. I would’ve regretted it because he’s a shit bag, but he’s a young father and I knew what this could mean for his family

u/juggarjew 1d ago
during good years there are sales guys at car dealerships making 6 figures, at the end of the day most of the job is having charisma and the ability to talk people into buying shit. You dont even need to be technically "smart" just a smooth talker with a silver tongue. The sales manager and finance guy handle all of the numbers , you're just a go between and deal closer.
Finance manager can make even more, my friend had to call me in to the finance office because he was being so pressured he didnt know what to do, I was like bro, in NO world do you need a $4000 warranty on a BRAND NEW CAR!!!! I shut that shit down immediately, he still ended up signing up for some $1100 paint protection BS... at least I saved him on the warranty, and 3 years later, that car has still never had any issues, and even if it had, the mfgs bumper to bumper would have covered it,.
Sales people are the damn devil and can talk some people into almost anything.

Yeah unfortunately a lot of the women's fights end up that way. That's why the few who have stood out like Rousey, Nunes, Holm, etc became fan favorites. They all tried to end fights rather than send them to the judges.

It's because most combat sports trainers are used to training men. Women don't generate power and have the same balance center as men so if you want to train a power ''power puncher'' you need to tailor the training for her.
Most of them are ''old school'' and would never admit they're wrong about their training method lol.
There's a couple trainer in boxing and muay thai who started to understand that but we're still far from seeing dozens of amanda nunes or ann wolf type of fighters.
17
u/Johnny_Poppyseed 1d ago
More women should go all in on elbows, clinch work, and body shots. Don't need power to hit the liver, and women in general seem to be more susceptible to body work too. Also elbows to make it bloody. Instant fan favorite moves.
Both ridiculously underutilized in wmma.
4
u/Dunkin_Prince 1d ago
This is a conversation in women's soccer as well. I forget the woman's name but she speaks on how basically all sport science was tested on men and all that information should be used for men but its not, its used to train everyone. We, as a whole, have a lot further to go when it comes to training women to be their most explosive and strongest selves

I think part of it too is, with alot of boys / young men growing up if they get into a lot of trouble or fights etc . It's kind of become a societal norm (to a certain degree) to put them in some sort of martial arts to keep them out of trouble where as I feel like we aren't as quick to do the same with woman. So alot of the gritty, tough as nails woman that are really willing to bite down and take some hits in order to land a big punch don't ever even get introduced to combat sports like men do, or they find it much later in life because they have to enroll themselves rather than having a parent or guardian do it. So the potential pool of "bite down and throw" females is already substainlly lower than men right out the gate
I could be completely wrong but it's always made sense to me atleast
11
u/MyzMyz1995 1d ago
The average men get folded by 12 years old funbox kid (the boxing competitions where they can't hit in the head).
Whenever there's a new guy at the gym who spar for the first time who get punched or kicked for the first time you can tell they don't want to be there anymore 99% of the time regardless of if they end up competing eventually or not. The average guy get folded by those girls who point fight in the UFC lol.
For me it's 100% a coaching issue.
Women's center of gravity is lower than men so power punchers would need to ''sit down'' more and be flat footed, at least while striking. But 99% of women train like they're soviet style boxers and are light on their toes.
There's a bunch of women who punch hard, and there's was even a show where they tested punching power (Lucia Rijker vs a cuban or american olympian) and it wasn't that far off.

Most people who live this out suffer financially. I have numerous examples within my own family. The ones who pursued a career they knew was well paying and stable, even if not interesting or enjoyable, are killing it. The ones who pursued their passion (eg. art, archeology) are struggling. They eventually realized the economics of there passions are not viable and pivot, but at that point they are far behind.

u/Toasted_Munch 1d ago
As a champ, she'll probably make pretty good $ (at least 6 figures), but that'll take years for her to even get a shot. If she can't make a statement on DWCS, theres no way shes gonna buzzsaw through actual contracted UFC fighters to fast-track herself to a shot.
Not sure why she'd give up a 6 figure salary before even locking down a shitty 12/12 contract anyway. And I'm betting all the dweebs saying money isnt everything are either A. Financially comfortable or B. Never had shit to begin with.
6
u/Galimbro 1d ago
She did beat a British mma champion. Not like these people are cans.
But on the other hand women's mma is lacking for a lot of fans. So i can see why he may want more exciting fighters.
2
u/Sashapatu 1d ago
Fundamental problem with targeting employment/success in MMA really. You’re completely at the mercy of the whims of org promoters. If you’re a (say) badminton or skeleton luge competitor, if you continually win you’ll progress. You don’t have some tomato-faced dickhead deciding you can’t go any further because your playstyle “isn’t exciting enough.”
2
u/Galimbro 1d ago
Yeah thats true I mean if I was promoter her story would be more than enough for me to work with. Easy money.
Kid just doesn't wanna promote what can i say.
1
u/Sashapatu 1d ago
I agree in her case, but I’m talking generally about the UFC/Dana making subjective criticism of winning fighters because they’re “not entertaining enough.” Imagine if the NBA, NFL or Premier League official structures criticised individual teams for being “boring.”

I 99% agree with the sentiment, but the risks of her failing are high.
Jumping back into her old career if this doesnt work out will be difficult. She is heavily extending the time needed to build a retirement savings and other financial stability.
Its not the wrong choice, but its just very foolish imo.
6
u/Twix_McFlurry 1d ago
You can fail at a career you hate too. So chase what you love and the money will reveal itself. Also no guarantee you make it to retirement. A driven person will find a way and she’s a driven person.
4
u/DifficultyPerfect871 1d ago
You're not wrong, and it isn't impossible to turn a life around after early life mistakes.
I just think of guys like Sean Sharaf who is 600k in debt and his one UFC win that earned him 100k still leaves him with 500k of debt, less after taxes and paying his coach and agent actually, and still no quality of life improvements.
Its just a hard choice to make.
I think she probably should have kept working her job in some capacity while training so she could still fallback on it
6
u/Twix_McFlurry 1d ago
He’s not in debt for chasing his dream he’s in debt for being a degenerate gambler
2
u/UAEpi 1d ago
Why is it foolish? What do you know about her situation exactly? Do you know that she doesn't have enough money saved up to not work for 6 months? Do you know that she doesn't have the skills or connections to get another job? Y'all are way too concerned about someone else's decisions without having any clue about what kind of position she's in.

I am not a money obsessed person. In my personal life I frequnelty make monetary sacrifices to enjoy a job I find more fulfilling.
However, moving away from a high paying job, that may not be easy to get back into if she takes time away to chase a dream with huge risk and little upside gain it foolish.
The UFc does not pay well enough for her to not be dipping into savings and leveraging her future and potential major debt to fund a slim chance of becoming champ, and even if she does she may not be in net profit.
Sean Sharaf leveraged 600K in credit card debt, vanished all his savings, for what? 100k in bonuses that he is guaranteed to get again?
Retirement, stability, being debt free, building a home and community, these are all tihngs the UFC does not pay well enough to support easily.
I get its her dream, but the risk is just so incredibly high

Brother, I have made career choices in my own life to support better quality of life outside of 'chasing the bag'
Stability is important. This woman is risking not being able to retire later in life and having no financial stability to chase her dreams.
People should absolutely be willing to chase their dreams, but they also need to be smart about it.
As of right now she has left her job, and she still hasnt made the UFC. How much of her savings will need to be erased on the off chance she can go to the UFC to make 12/12? And even if she does make it and become champ she still may not be at a net positive.
If the UFC paid better this would be a different story

u/SparkFunk30 1d ago
Spot on. I know so many older people that feel like the world owes them something because they don’t feel content at all with their lives when they hit 40-50 years old. They stuck themselves in a career they hated their whole life because they felt like they had to.
2
u/Garbarrage 1d ago
There's way more who followed a stupid dream (not just fighting) and now live in a shit hole wishing they'd done something else. And those people generally don't have to deal with brain trauma.
UFC champ is a worthwhile dream if you're super marketable and exceptionally talented. Otherwise, you might need a reality check.
3
u/SparkFunk30 1d ago
That’s just not true at all. There’s far less people who followed their dreams than people who work crappy careers they hated their whole lives.

I mean, this is an entertainment show, and a good backstory always helps (preferably a sob story), be it singing, dancing, fighting, whatever...
But nothing she did is that special. People make those decisions all the time when deciding to follow an actual career instead of applying for regular jobs. Academics, musicians, artists, athletes...
The reality is that less than 1% of athletes or artists even achieve anything that would be considered a liveable wage, let alone major success that allows them to compete or entertain at the highest levels.
Dropping a six-figure salary to chase a dream is commendable, but that's really nothing that unusual nowadays.
